Good to see you guys are enjoying your devices! It's just getting lonely in this thread as I'll have HUGE number of questions I'll need help with, and you guys are the experts.
From time to time over the next few weeks check in for fun questions

I'm planning on owning the Nokia E51 soon, with the E71 to replace it shortly.

Got a new question:
* Does S60 allow for private password on each of your POP/IMAP email accounts, so that unless someone has your password, they CANNOT view/read your emails already downloaded to your E51/E66/E71?
* another, can you password protect installed applications so that once launch, you NEED to enter a password in order to use them?!
Posted by johnmcl7
I'm afraid I can't help you with your queries as I don't use that aspect of the phone.
Anyone know of a better price than Expansys for an E51?
John

http://www.buy-mphone.com/acatalog/e51_sim_free.html - slightly cheaper

Thanks - had a look at one in store, incredible little phone so I think I'll be ordering it. Hmm black or silver though? The one I looked at was black, gave the phone a discrete look which suited it.

how is the wifi performance of e51?
has anybody used Voip via wlan in e51?
Posted by johnmcl7
Can't help you there, not quite ordered the E51 yet.
What is the best imap client for S60? I've put my phone on an unlimited data plan so I want it to check the mailbox over imap at regular intervals and let me know if there's mail. I've been trying to use the inbuilt client which is set to retrieve at five minute intervals but after a while it seems to disconnect the mailbox entirely and won't pick up mail again unless I choose connect. Also the integration with the today screen seems to be non-existant, I'm wondering if there's anything better or I'm doing something wrong?

Is emoze an IMAP client? Been using it for a while.. But with pop3..
Posted by johnmcl7
I'll need to take a look, I've found out how to get the e-mail client onto the today screen though it's just a matter of setting an e-mail account to be the default standby mailbox.
John

Btw, emoze is a push email client.. Updates me whenever i get new mail. It integrates with the default client though.. No seperate interface.

Hi John,
Go take a look at Seven Always On Push E-Mail if you join the Beta program from their site it is still free. It works really well on Nokia's as i have been running it for a long time now and over 6 months on the E90. It took less than 5 minutes to set up 3 accounts on the E71 i got earlier today.
It is real time Push E-Mail and most of the time it arrives on my device before my computer gets a highly recommended from me.

I'm trying get Tomtom on my E90 but having difficulty, Tomtom will activate it but as it's non-compatible device they won't give me support (fine), they won't transfer it to another device immediately if it doesn't work(fine) but they also want me to accept it as a final activation code which means I can never use the software on another phone. That is completely unacceptable to me, getting rather frustrated as I've always liked Tomtom but it seems the only way I can get it is illegally.
I noticed there are some companies selling Nokia Maps for 80 or so pounds but there is no mention of it being limited to one year:

Anyone know if this is the proper voice guidance or something else?
Thanks,

The 3G bands between RM346 = E71-1 and RM357 = E71-2 are different.
E71-1 has Euro 3G bands: 900/2100Mhz
E71-2 has North American (NAM) 3G bands: 850/1900Mhz. (No TMobile USA 3G bands on ANY E71/E66: 1700/2100Mhz - the latter being slightly out of the range of Europes 3G 2100Mhz and the algorithms are different).

Not much. I guess everyone's aware of the basic specs on offer - plastic body, UMTS/HSDPA support, QVGA 256K TFT display, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm AV jack, microSD card slot, Bluetooth and a 2MP camera.

Hi,
I have an o2 branded e71. In 'messaging' I can set up new folders, but when i receive emails, I cannot move read or unread mails to those folders. They are clogging up the inbox. I can move sms to the folders... What am I doing wrong? Or is it a bug/fw issue? I can mark/unmark emails, forward etc etc...bit anoying.

Use Nokia E-mail or Profimail. You can create local folders to move e-mails on your phone's in-box.

Thanks gforce,
But that is not really the point - it should be possible to use the built in email client and move emails to folders. and it says so in the manual; but when I highlight a mail and click 'option', the 'move' option is absent! So either I'm overlooking sth, or the fw is buggy? Strangel, I now installed the MS live app that came with the phone. After the install, I realised the app had automatically setup a new email inbox in the built in email client, and there was a welcome-email waiting. And lol, when I highlighted the mail, I had the option to move it to one of the folders I had created!!! But none of my other email accounts will offer the option. Weird! (the other accounts are 2 yahoo, and a gmail account - but that shouldn't matter!?)
Anyway,
Thank you for your reply

Would you recommend the Nokia e-mail client? I've been using the builtin one with the E90 and it seems to work well, I like the fact it can show new mails on the standby screen. The Nokia client you've linked to looks quite nice though.

Have some s60 email questions for anyone that would know. How well (or whether it works at all) does s60 built in client work with ms exchange? I need a phone that supports ms exchange email and calender, has emails/appointments on the homescreen, not looking to use any third party app for work emails but doesnt have to be push.
Anyone use nokia mail for exchange? By the looks of it, its a separate app with its own inbox, calender etc. Do you get recent emails/appointments on the homescreen with it?
Its the innov8 I'm looking at but I assume nokia mail for exchange won't work on there anyway.

Cheers. You're right I found that very interesting. Roadsync is what Im after. I expected those features were builtin to s60.
Though I may just take the easy option and just get an iPhone 3g on payg. I love the built in exchange client on there and it comes with unlimited data. it's just too easy an option.

I forgot this thread was here, glad I found it now

I've bought a Nokia E71

I've had it for about a week (unlocked) now, bought it about 2 weeks ago I reckon. Three were great, they unlocked it within 15 minutes or so (although, it took me 6 days to keep ringing them back as the signal kept dropping out, then bloody Barclays blocked my card because they thought it was 'suspicious' for the second time that week....), so now I have a gorgeous White Steel E71 running on O2 UK, very happy bunny

It's great, have yet to find anything I don't like. Despite the enourmous battery, the standby isn't too great, but I have been using the WiFi alot recently which doesn't help

Just need some good apps for it now, I'm loving the whole huge library of downloadable stuff for it

Hi Everyone,
I've been looking at the E66 for some time, i like it very much. For the moment I have an E51 but I really like sliders so I would like to change.
However in almost all the forums where real discussions are going on, people are complaining so much about E66 that I feel confused now. Everybody complains about call problems, stability issues. Nothing to do with design or operation, but basic features seem to be faulty.
I'm using my E51 for professional purposes, lot of calls during the day, HSDPA access, outlook sync, calendar all day, so it is very important for me that the basic features can be trusted on the device.
What do you think? Is E66 really so bad as you can read it on other forums? What's your experience?
Shall I change my E51 to E66 or I should wait for E67?

THanks!

I know its an OLD post.
Better off waiting until E55 drops, better for your needs. E66 FW Update fixed many of the issues you stated.

The new E52 looks promising.600 mhz boiler and 1500 mAh battery and the latest S60 with full encryption on both card and phone, and remote wipe possibility.Combined with Skyfire browser it would be a highlight worth considering.Well, depending on price that is.
