Nokia today unveiled its latest premium mobile phone, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition. Sensual by nature, intuitively beautiful by design, the Sirocco Edition's signature feature is a thumbprint, which perfectly matches the human hand.
ESATO NEWS
The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition draws its name from the powerful desert-born wind that originates in the Sahara when a warm, dry air mass collides with the cooler, maritime air of the Mediterrean. The striking organic shape of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition references the inherent strength of the human form, a concept further implied by stainless steel polished surfaces and a scratch-resistant glass display window. Like its namesake, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition consists of two variants - light and dark, the light inspired by the hot, dry air mass, the dark by the cooler, humid one.
And as it blows, the powerful sirocco makes its own unique sound - a composition from nature caused by two air masses colliding. With nature as his inspiration, Brian Eno, the world renowned music composer and ambient music innovator, has created a unique 'sonic texture' that is organic, calm and highly evolved. It has an otherworldly feel - comprised of notes created by instruments that Eno has selected and 'synthesized' himself.
The stainless steel case of the Sirocco Edition is treated in such a way as to give the device a unique sensual feel, which humanizes this natural masterpiece. Impeccable functionality is created through superlative craftsmanship, using techniques drawn from master watchmakers and jewellers. From the sapphire coating of the 262,000 colour display to the distinctive slide mechanism which reveals its 2 mega-pixel camera, or even its extended battery life, every seemingly minor detail of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition is honed to perfection. The ergonomic keypad undulates like the glimmering dunes of the night desert, whilst the jewel-like navigation key shines like the brightest star in the darkest night. The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition truly is unique, created out of the inherent beauty and chaos of nature and distilled into a modern form that is graceful, sympathetic and spare.
The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition also features a complementary Bluetooth headset. This diminutive but distinctive wireless earpiece is also composed of stainless steel, and perfectly matches the nature-inspired Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition.
The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition is now available in select markets, with an estimated retail price of EUR 1000, before taxes or subsidies.

I hate it! .....Nokia lost the plot after the amazing 8850/8890.
Posted by Luke-the-magic-man
personal preference really, I think il buy one as a night phone to go allong with my p990 lol
Posted by axxxr
night phone?...don't you mean social phone?

I would personaly like to have a vertu or a black diamond as a \"night phone\" as you call it...can't afford the former yet...and waiting for the later, so that will be the one for me!
Posted by Luke-the-magic-man
nope I mean night phone
thing is the vertu is boring and I think its shocking (personal opinion)
and they ruined the black and white diamond by putting windows mobile on it and making it huge (i have a feeling its guna be chunky

P990i and one of these is my next combo...

Pretty spendy.

Please tell me the cradle has a purpley light as apposed to the 8800 blue one

Posted by apolloa
It reminds me a lot of the LG Chocolate, sleek sexy design and presented really well in a luxury box etc. Nice.

All i can say about this is...
...whats the point!!!
The original 8800 is not a good phone. Now i know there will be people screaming out that it was designed mainly to be a fasionable phone rather funtional, but it's not even that. Give it up Nokia...oh..hang on...sounds like they have! They are gonna copy Motorola (no sniggering now) in giving their new mobile's names rather than numbers!!! Oh no, there are bound to be gags about the new Nokia SHT phone!!! (no prizes for guessing which letter was missed out there).

@kk, look at the photos I posted. The light seems white.
@the last poster,
well we definately know the phone is not directed at you.
"Now i know there will be people screaming out that it was designed mainly to be a fasionable phone rather funtional, but it's not even that. "
Yes it is.
"Give it up Nokia...oh..hang on...sounds like they have!"
If they had given up we wouldn't see this update.
" They are gonna copy Motorola (no sniggering now) in giving their new mobile's names rather than numbers!!!"
So?
You seem to miss the point. It is an improved 8800.
I love variation. Sadly, many people wish we lived in a communist world where we all have the same grey phone and no change.
Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy the phone. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Move on.

This for sure?
if this is the case, i got a brand spanking new 8800 for sale.... dont mind paying the extra for this to match my tytn.
Posted by kk.226
@ Amnesia, I checked your pics mate, looks like it has a hint of purple like the 8850 backlight.
And to the other guy, seriously, stop being retarded.
"Give it up nokia"?!?!?! They don't care if the phone has shit features, even if it looks any good. They don't care if they're copying motorola or if people even like the phone.
... The phone sells... and so will this one.
Why should they give it up? they're hardly struggling.
Posted by Merc_Man
Will definatly be getting one of these, looks superb.
Also 'new poster' like KK said, Nokia don't really care about features etc, this is a premium handset which looks good and has basic features.
Oh and its also sells in millions, which I suppose is the main thing for them

Posted by fatreg
is that a nice BT headset you get with it too?
i defo need one of these..
@ the poster who has no idea...
Nokia dont make this phone for the mass market.. its niche market they are aiming for.. and i'd ay they preety much have it won over... i for one have owned ever nokia 8xxx product at least once.. as someone said.. once you leave a nokia you will always go back.. and the 88xx series are Nokias "premium products" hence not for your average joe bloggs... if you want a phone that does all your mod cons.. Nokia can help.. check out the 6xxx series.. no nonsense business handsets....
for the ones among us that appreciate form and factor over functions, take a look at the new 8800.. its a leap forward from the normal 8800... i for one will get one at my earliest oppertunity!

the nokia 8800 is the only nice nokia I have really liked, im a poor student who has no money

Posted by kk.226
Didn't like this at the start, not because of looks etc. but just because it was released so soon after the 8800. But i'm not going to complain, the camera is a great improvement, will be the perfect match for my m600i

Posted by Vein
Awesome looking phone, definitely will have one for sure, but when!?
Posted by amnesia
you could get one now

Posted by Coxy
What mem cards does it take anyone?
Posted by amnesia
no memory card as far as I know.
Posted by dcbastable
Ok, perhaps my views against the Nokia 8800 are not to everyones taste. And by the way, being critical about a device does not make me a communist. I have sold phones for 13 years and i have never seen such a diverse range of phones, so the comment that we are all being forced to use the same grey phones is untrue. All i am trying to get at is that Nokia expect a lot from their loyal customers. For the cost of this model they could of at least put someting TRULY innovative in the phone, but innovation is someting that is not a favourite Nokia trait.
Posted by amnesia
You need to re-read the definition of communism.
The comment regarding 'grey phone's' was referring to having on color of a specific model.
For the cost, they SHOULD put something more, it's a pitty though that there isn't. That I agree with.

Can someone try and find some close up pics of a real sirocco in action?
Mainly a pic of the front thumb rest.
Saw a dummy one today, and wasn't to impressed, hoping thats just the dummy though....
It just seemed like a realy small dent, like someone had dropped the phone, rather then what the pictures show...

I found I can already get my hands on these babies, only thing is they are too expensive, does anyone know if the list price at the cpw is 4-500 or 800ish? as I can find hem for about 500...
