u will be using dialup to dial onto your internet service provider and not into the gprs network?

i think the 115kbps your friend is talking about is between the phone and computer and not the internet server and computer.
as the previous poster said.. use a software (i use analogx 's netstat live :www.analogx.com ) to actually test the speed of the incoming/outgoing connection to practically check out the speed.

i also think you'll find that when connected to internet you are charged by the kilobyte transfer & not how long it takes - so no financial gain from faster connection

As u know if i use dial up net working to check internet on my PC it will cost 0.5$/h (in my country) so the highest speed the phone can reach the most benefit i can get too.

actually in my country the internet charge according to the time we use (0.5USD/h) not in size which the worst thing.

is the phone can reach 115kbs is it fast as 56k modem( imean both interneal and external).

this evening i will met my friend and i can get his connection to show u how he get 115kbs with his 6600

he said that after the pc connect the connection logo which appear at bottom right conner near clock show that the speed is 115kbs while if he use modem with IR it show only 9.5kbs.

@nitalice, In your case, seems you are not using gprs. your service is gsm data dialing up. 9.6kbps or 14.4k is the normal speed. Higher speed is only possible with hscsd service, when gprs is not available, but it can not reach 112k. the speed reported is the communication between pc and phone, not the dialup data connection rate. You can test the speed according to the ppls suggestion.

Dont know much bout gprs modem myself but i mentioned your prob to a friend and he said that your friend is gettin speed of 112kbps coz thats kilo bits ps n not kilo bytes ps....to fine speed in kilo bytes divide by 8 n the speed comes out to be 14 kilo bytes ps which is the average internet speed usin gprs modem. Hope this helps

When I use my k700 as a modem it says that the connection speed is over 900 kbps, but really it is not faster than 56k modem. I think your friend can enter with same speed, he just have tu rise maximum speed limit in settings on his computer!

Guys, @wapt is correct in his observation. The 112 kbps is a stupid value that Windows reports since that is the connection speed it made to the phone. The phone itself will only get max 42 kbps to the internet. Unfortunately Windows doesn't query this value (don't know if it can) and instead reports the BT or IR connection speed. It is a bit misleading. I have lots of experience with this with multiple versions of windows and phones ranging from t39, t68i and t610.

This is not to say that GPRS is not fast enough, depending on what your doing it can be plenty enough. Wouldn't want to download any quality porn over the BT modem though...

Exactly. To find out the true speed simply download a file in the browser and see what speed the file manager reports. Or load a 200k page and your browser will most likely show the speed in the status bar. My connection usually hovers about 3.6kbps. That's great for a free connection.

now i just bought k700i but i have some question cause i haven't got any experience with sony before.

My FW is R2L

i just send 2 MP3(56Kbs and 128Kbs) files the same song to test the qulatity after that i relize that 128kbs is better but 56kbs is acceptable so i decide to delete the 128kbs one which ths size is around 5MB because the memory size on k700i is little bit small to sue as mp3 station.

A strange thing happend, after deleting that the memory size on pmy size stay the same with free space around 35MB. and i already do master reset twice but still the same.

anyway to delete all file like format hard dsik in PC??

Allright.

Your friend is saying he is getting over 120kb because he is looking at the connection info in the computer. It is not possible for T610 or K700 to achieve more than 56kb cause that is the maximum transfer rate of the GPRS modem.

SE uses a Class 8 system, with 4 download and 1 upload, while Nokia used class 4, which means less download(about 43kb max).

If you are using HSCSD then SE has a max of 28.8, while Nokia can get 43kb.

Now, if you connect to the internet throught the phone, the computer is actually just connecting to the phone, so it has no real idea of what else is going on, other than what the phone is TELLING the computer. If you use normal dialup (CSD or HSCSD) then the speed will be accurate in the tray icon on your computer, but GPRS is probably reported as Max theoritical(Max is 120+kb, but no phone can do this) because the network can assign and remove slots at will if the network is crowded.

To sum it up.

NO, he is not getting 120kb transfer speed to the INTERNET.
