i plan to buy a new phone to use as a modem for dial-up net working.
my friend's 6600 can use as modem(with bluetooth) to connect internet with the highest speed 112kbs.
I want to buy phone to connect internet too but i am not sure that whether K700i's modem can reach the speed as 6600 or not( i don't want 6600 because i like the sonyericsson branch).

Pls give me some idea and if u ever use it as a modem, can u tell me what is the highest speed that k700i can reach?

Hope to get help from u as it is the first time that i buy a new phone (now i'm using siemens c35, the oldest one i think and the speed of modem connection via serial port only 9.6kbs)

sorry for my english!!!

I think people mistake the bluetooth connection speed with the actual gprs connection speed.

i think what ur friend is doing is using BT to connect to your PC then uses the PC internet connection to surf.

if u use as modem, gprs cannot achieve 112kps. i think it is below 50kbps. K700 and 6600 should not differ that much in gprs speed.

it not much of a point to use BT to surf. for this to work, u must have PC which is already connecting to the internet. so why not just use the PC to surf.

not very sure whether u r aware. K700 does not have a full web browser like the 6600. all normal html websites cannot be surf with K700. only wap sites. 6600 has a opera browser which can surf most internet web sites.

btw: i only know u can use 6600 to use BT in screnario above. i'm not an owner of K700 so i dont know whether it will work with K700.

i think may be i confuse with your explaination.

Actually, my friend use 6600 as modem to make dial up networking in his pc and he said that when he use his Modem via IR he can get speed only 9.6kbs but when he use bluetooth he said the connection can reach to 112kbs but i cannot see his connection because we r in diffrent area(he is in the town).

so what do u think about his connection via 6600

@nitalice: Correct me if I am wrong:
You want to buy the phone.
You have a PC with bluetooth capabilities.
You don't have internet at home.
You want to connect to the internet via your phone's GPRS modem

In that case, your friend is lying, because:
K700/6600 IR can get speeds up to 96Kbps (Kilobits per second)
K700/6600 Bluetooth can get speeds up to 192Kbps
K700/6600 GPRS function can get speeds up to 42Kbps
So in any way, you would get the maximum possible speed, which is 42Kbps

Get K700. 6600 is laggy, large, takes ages to turn on. Only advantage is the millions of applications for it, but well.. all 6600 users who saw my phone said that definitely their next phone would be the K700.

everyone i haven't buy K700i yet because my friend(he owns 6600) said that that he really get the speed 115kbs he he didn't use GPRS in his phone connection but he use data connection instead and set speed to automatic (not 9600kbs or 14400kbs) and tommorow i will meet him so i can get his setup and show to u.
As u know if i use dial up net working to check internet on my PC it will cost 0.5$/h (in my country) so the highest speed the phone can reach the most benefit i can get too.

If anyone own 6600 can give some idea about it and is it possible that k700i have such function that can reach the speed 115kbs for moderm connetion ( i don't have any k700i to test that's is a problem)

give me more ideas please

i am not going to use internet on my mobile but on my pC.
so the using phone as modem to dial up networking in PC for connecting internet is call GPRS? becasue it is a new technology to me for connecting internet by mobile phone as i have said before that today i am using very old phone siemens C35 (very very old & slow one and considering to change faster one) as a moderm to connect internet which speed reach only 9.6kbs

if u said t610 can reach 115 kbs it mean that k700i will easyly reach too because my friend own t610 so i will borrow hime to try (because i heard that the connection speed of t610 is very slow compare to k700i that's why i dare not to test it)

one more thing i want to add the first time that my friend us 6600 as moderm and connect with pc through IR he can get only 9.6kbs too but after he changes to Bluetooth with XP SP1 (SP2 also 9.6kbs) he can get 115kbs as if u see in 6600 modem set u can only work with IR but my friend use data connection instead that he can connect with blutooth.

Are u sure that the connection speed is being reported correctly?

115kb is max speed of std modem and often reported when the device is not reporting the actual speed

The only way to test real connection is to download something and time it

Try downloading the same thing on Nokia, then on the T610 (the larger the file, the more accurate the reading)
