Mike2: Can you point me somewhere with instructions on how to backup FS?

Max: I not feeling too confident yet with the acoustics on K800. I have a feeling there's a little more to it than the W800/K750. I think there is some volume control built into the system somewhere. i.e. if you play a song at max volume with eq set to all max settings and then change to a preset eq setting the volume doesn't drop off much at all. Yet at lower volumes it is a very noticable drop. On W800 there was a noticable difference at max vol. This why I'm wondering what the .AEC files are.

I thought to extract FS I need to READ and so far READ is not supported (by XS++ or FAR.) What method do we use to read FS (once we have raw image extracting is easy)

Oh by the way good point about no brute force hack.

I mean to extract the FS from a .fbn file using Darkmen's FS extractor: http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=5445

yes but that doesn't extract my personal FS (I'd still like to be able to do a back up of MY FS as it stands on my phone right now.

Still a generic FS would still be useful. I downloaded FS at topsony, which is the fs version I flashed at wotan, but I'm having troubles extracting it via sefstool (versions 2 and 4) - it gives errors and fails to extract anything.

I've extracted raw image okay, but can't extract files from raw - get error "Fatal: No FS description block found @ $000000"

using FAR? Check your files you copied to the PC (if you used FAR), they have all zero byte in size!

I thought I had copied them all too. Then I checked the files. They were all zero length.

Well, I've been doing some FSX operations:

Remove Online Content links within File Manager:
You can remove the links at the top of each media folder in the file manager. These links mean there is one less item viewable on screen and if you don't use them they can go.
Delete these files

/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/FM_PICTURES_HOOK_3/FM_PICTURES_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/FM_SOUNDS_HOOK_3/FM_SOUNDS_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/FM_THEMES_HOOK_3/FM_THEMES_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/FM_VIDEOS_HOOK_3/FM_VIDEOS_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/GAMES_HOOK_3/GAMES_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/ORG_APPLICATIONS_HOOK_3/ORG_APPLICATIONS_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/cust_menu_data.dat
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/cust_menu_done_unpacking.dat
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/SETT_RINGTONE_HOOK_1/SETT_RINGTONE_HOOK_1.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/SETT_SCREENSAVER_HOOK_1/SETT_SCREENSAVER_HOOK_1.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/SETT_STARTSHOW_HOOK_1/SETT_STARTSHOW_HOOK_1.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/SETT_WALLPAPER_HOOK_1/SETT_WALLPAPER_HOOK_1.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/VIDEO_PLAYER_HOOK_1/VIDEO_PLAYER_HOOK_1.xml
/tpa/preset/system/custmenu/MEDIA_PLAYER_HOOK_3/MEDIA_PLAYER_HOOK_3.xml
/tpa/preset/custom/FM_PICTURES_HOOK_3.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/FM_SOUNDS_HOOK_3.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/FM_THEMES_HOOK_3.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/FM_VIDEOS_HOOK_3.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/GAMES_HOOK_3.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/ORG_APPLICATIONS_HOOK_3.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/SETT_RINGTONE_HOOK_1.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/SETT_SCREENSAVER_HOOK_1.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/SETT_STARTSHOW_HOOK_1.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/SETT_WALLPAPER_HOOK_1.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/VIDEO_PLAYER_HOOK_1.itm
/tpa/preset/custom/MEDIA_PLAYER_HOOK_3.itm

I haven't deleted or changed those things I want to back up first (for example my menu.ml file) that I can't get elsewhere. I want to backup customize.xml and menu.ml so that I can edit customize.cml for "suppress camera sound" setting, and change menu structure in menu.ml.

Change Startup and Shutdown graphics:
Start up and shutdown graphics can be any 240x320 image. I used jpg's, other's may be suported. The file must have a specific name with no file extension. Here are the locations of the graphics on your phone, and the namesthe file should have (note their are no file extensions on the files):
/tpa/preset/system/settings/SHUTDOWN_IMAGE_SEMC
/tpa/preset/system/settings/SPLASH
/tpa/preset/system/settings/STARTUP_IMAGE_SEMC

delete locked content:
Delete the content using FAR that you can't delete in File Manager. The locations of the various OEM content is as follows:
Games: /tpa/preset/system/ams/
Music: /tpa/user/music, /tpa/user/music/ringtones
Pitcures: /tpa/user/picture
Video: /tpa/user/video
Theme: /tpa/user/theme

xs++ and far/sefp are two different things (actually three).

Far Manager is a dos program for mounting file systems

SEFP is a plug-in for FAR that allows SE File Systems to be mounted

XS++ is another way altogether, using a graphical UI. XS++ may be easier for beginners, but FAR allows you to browse the file system as well as modify it.

To use the FAR/SEFP combo, install far manager and extract tyhe SEFP plugin into the "plugin" folder in FAR.

You can learn here how to use FAR and SEFP:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=125323

but keep in mind that thread is old and while they say only cid36 is supported, that's no longer the case. CID51/52 and K800 etc are all supported.
