What the guys meant is that you could run the new games that come out for WM and have "nicer" graphics then the older ones and perhaps some 3d stuff.....
dont get your hope to high!

NO i know what i ment, The ATI thing maybe a marketing trick, but im confident you can play playstation games on X1. Other PPC with lower specs than x1 can do it check youtube

its called FpseCE

.
Hi Creid, you are right. This is to confirm your positive feelings and beyod.

You can expect the best graphics video and gaming experia in the Xperia of course it is up to the developers to take advantage of the powerful guts that the xperia have inside.

The Qualcomm CPU is not a toy but can drive your toys.
go to page 10 of and see all ammunition this SOC has.
and to stop the doubts, verify that ATI 2D/3D hardware is not a marketing trick, it is integrated in the Qualcomm
Plus a lot other funcions like GPS etc are also built in in the chip

http://brew.qualcomm.com/bnry[....]f/brew_2007/Tech-303_Ligon.pdf

The answer to the question why some people notice that the Pro or diamond are not as responsive or fast than the experia (except or the panels) . I just don't know but I'm glad. I can only speculate: the quality of the display or the drivers included, or the care & quality how the Xperia was built. Just a guess.

Firstly Thanks JD!

Because you reported you just ordered your phone from Vodafone, mine is now on the way too!

However I missed the 6pm delivery for Monday cut-off, so will be with me on Tuesday. Mine is an upgrade from my P990i, so my deal reads as follows:

phone - free
contract 18 mnths
£35 pm
600 mins
unlimited texts
stop the clock
2Gb Micro SD card (negotiated over the phone, just be extra nice, it works for me )

One note though.... Vodafone only are licensed to sell the Black version, why? Weird eh? Anybody know why?

I normally prefer Silver, but I ain't gonna cry about getting my hands on one

ah... Just as I'm typing this, Vodafone have sent me a order confirmation message, guaranteeing Tuesday delivery between 8-18hrs. I WILL NOT BE LEAVING THE HOUSE THEN... better get my shopping in tomorrow and Monday, haha.

Chris

Hey glad to help!

Only realised after I placed my order that it didn't ship with an SD card given that the Swedish version seems to have shipped with a 4gb card, if I understand right. So well done for negotiating one for yourself.

As I mentioned earlier, you have to ask, each Vodafone sales person has a small personal account to offer customers - call it incentives. However if they offer one customer a deal, someone has to miss out. So like I said, just be nice on the phone - you need to speak to someone, as it's not an "in-the-box" item.

BTW - Vodafone only carry stock of 1 and 2Gb cards. Which is why I'll be buying an 8Gb card too

Hi all,

Sorry didn't mention my deal which was an 18 month contract @

£20pm can't remember how many minutes and texts but as a 2nd line really doesn't matter to me.
£4.99 Internet pack this is the 500mb fair use add on which should be free on 18 month £35pm plans.
X1 £49.99

Plus of course i have 14 days to decide if i want to keep it or not.

Update from Carphone Warehouse.

Mine has been placed on back order. Apparently they had them in at 10.00am, and they were all sold by 12pm. Disgusting service.

Oh well, asked to end my contract so bye bye Carphone Warehouse.

Posted by Dogmann
@Norti

That was the one thing i made sure i had on mine even though i took the lowest minutes and texts possible. Otherwise i don't get the point of having a Data centric device if you are going to have to worry about Data charges and not have an inclusive Data plan.

I'm not sure surprised, I left carphonewhorehouse in 2002, never looked back. Phone vodafone and you'll have it for Tuesday .

BTW - Free internet access with the correct package

Hi Dogmman,

I am eagerly waiting your review as I am sure it will be based on facts and objectivity. Lol, first time that I actually like your SE non-funboyism to call it that. And I am totaly with nitro, if it is sluggish i.e. slow even only in panels no way I will give my money. Thank you in advance.

@pinguino2
What I meant by a marketing trick is that se advertizes the driver as it was only available on the x1, which is not true. Probably the same driver as the one in the latest htc phones.
btw. the ps emulator does look good. I tested an earlier version and it sucked...
Just waiting for touch hd now to decide which one to get...

@Dogmann, it's good to see that you are going to give the X1 a whirl around the block a few times. I'm awaiting your review too. What's ironic is that you are getting the thing before me

I'm not going to spoil your fun by saying "I told you so", because that would be in poor taste to come on this thread and say "I told you so" after, in the past, you were so vehemently opposed to getting the X1...so, I'm not going to say "I told you so"

Get well too!

Posted by Dogmann
@WhyBe

Well if I'm honest I'm getting it mainly due to the silly deal Voda have given me and i always like to try new devices and OS's to see what they offer. I doubt i would of spent £500 in hard cash for one.

As i will also have 14 days before i have to decide it's a bit of a no lose situation, as i have said i am not overly fond of Touch screens or WM for that matter but am eager to see what WM 6.1 and the X1 offers. That's why i couldn't resist the opportunity of seeing for myself what it delivers.

I promise you and all on the Forum i have no bias or axe to grind and my review will be as i find it nothing more and nothing less.

It will of course just be my opinions based on how i find it but i am willing to quantify all i say be it good or bad if everyone else agrees with them or not is another matter.

@Jah

To be honest i much prefer Black phones to any other colour and I've just got a black rim to make my Bold all black which i also have no intention of selling anytime soon either.

I don't understand that. I got my call at 14.27 (according to the iphone logs) and not only have I got my tracking number, but it is now tracking at city link which only happens once the package is collected. Also, its showing delivery for tomorrow on the tracking

I'd be complaining in the morning if I were you, although perhaps you'd be wasting your breath unfortunately

anyway, I have tomtom 7 lined up and ready to go as well as a 16gb micro SD full of stuff and all my usual WM apps. trouble is, as it was so unexpected, I probably won't have much time tomorrow to play until the evening unless the weather is naff

looking forward to comparing notes with you hard men of the Smartphone world! I will be comparing to my Nokia E90 & TyTn II. I also have a Redfly but I don't think the X1 will work with it.

I have already got a screen protector, 2 cases and a 16GB card ready to go!

well, Dogmann has had both E90 and TyTN II whereas I have only had the TyTN II, but I have also had the Diamond and both were running WM6.1

to be honest WM, is generally WM whatever device you have so the main attraction here is the panels I suppose, and that it is

mind you, apart from my w890 which I still have, its the only that has interested me for a while and if I'm dissapointed I can't imagine when the next will attract my attention (prob next years) as the C905 certainly doesn't do it

Posted by Dogmann
@Jah and Masseur

Well at this stage I'm sticking with an 8gb card until i decide if i will keep it or not but unfortunately can't find a Martin Fields screen protector or a PDAir book or flip case yet but I'm sure it won't be long.

Software wise I'm going to initially see how i find it out of the Box especially as Spb Mobile shells seems included. But if i like it and keep it will add Tom Tom 7 and a good Alarm Program as well as a Weather app although i think one is included and have also been looking at Handy Safe for it also.

I prefer not to have to install lots of apps and hopefully WM6.1 and the X1 should cover most of what i need out the box but once i get it i shall see.

@Dogmann

I find the PDair screen protectors nearly as good as MFOP. Also PDair did have a book style case but withdrew it (I know as I had an order) and were going to re-introduce it at the end of Oct. We should also see, hopefully, a good (expensive) case from http://www.noreve.com

On the s/w front I will try Pocket Breeze & wheather and Agenda One. I must admit I don't like using my TyTn II as a phone but its a great connected PDA. Will see if SE have made the X1 more of a phone.

thats quite true actually, and I find I install less and less of my stuff with each WM product I get.

As a very minimum, I can't do without Garmin or TomTom (oh! I just remembered I have Garmin XT on micro SD that I used on TyTN II but couldn't use on my Diamond as it doesn't have a card slot, and I do prefer Garmin). Also resco explorer, Tube 2 and Supersnap. Spb Plus was always a priority but I'll see what the panel offers before installing that

so... just for a change, lets see who can install the least to do everything they need

Just ordered thro mobiles.co.uk. Used topcashback so £40 back and went for o2 18/12 £45pm with first 8 months 1/2 price (worth £180). Also got free Jabra 2010 bluetooth headset with promo code. Sweet!

Anyone know what colour X1's mobiles.co.uk give? Found one price comparison site that had them on and all phones were listed as black. This is what I am hoping for.

Also anyone know if you can swap the bolt on from unlimited text to unlimited web? I tried to call and check but couldn't get through but would imagine so. O2 give you a free bolt-on with £35 and above tariff. Maybe I shoulda checked this sooner.

Posted by Jah
@DexterMorgan

I have a feeling that mobile.co.uk may have their own tariffs for O2 and like CPW you may need to pay £7.50 for the internet bolt-on. I had a pre-order with them but they seemed to give telephone orders priority today over back-orders so as they had not even processed my order at 5.45 today so I cancelled. I'm sure your order will be okay

Posted by DexterMorgan
@Jah

Looking at the Mobiles.co.uk site, when you click on view O2 call charges it links to O2's buisness tariff pdf for some reason on the o2 site. I'm not sure if this is a mistake and it is meant to be the personal tariff page.

If it comes down to it I will ring o2 to swap and if they refuse will threaten to send phone back.

At £7.50pm for interent with all the cashback etc it would make it the same cost as the vodafone xperia but you get 1200 ins instead of 900 so it's still better value.

I got mine (swedish version) with a 4gb card.. but now i belive I need a bigger one! I have just confirmed that the program WinMobile Torrent works. And then coreplayer plays avi, divX, mpeg, mp4 and a lot more.. This is a dream! Do not wake me up! Hehe..

By the way.. one strange thing with skype.. I hear the one I'm calling in the external speaker.. not the ear-one. So it's kind of speakerphone... but with no button to change to private. Anyone who can confirm this or is it just my phone?

Wow, Vodafone have a vast array of offers for X1 compared to 02. Now I'm interested because I need the shortest contract possible, and they offer a range of 12-month ones too. Does anyone know if you can unlock phones after a contract with vodafone? Also, does anyone know what software Vodafone would put onto the X1?

The is a user forum in the help section of the VF website. There is a sticky there that says all new VF phones are shipped UNLOCKED. They will still have VF firmware but should be useable with ANY sim.

This is how I've always viewed WM and tbh it wins hands down against anything else as a connected pda, especially with the great app support that WM offers.

As a phone OS, s60 is better, and I don't even like s60 UI at all! I'll be interest to see how X1 performs as a phone, but if I get one it will be to replace my current pda (a samsung i780). My main cell will be still be my W910, and the C905 when I can afford it.

@Max Which s60 phone are you using? I use both s60 and WM (and only this 2) since the 'begining of times' and I definitely prefer s60. Single hand usage and a 'not to worry', virus free platform, are 2 advantages not to be underestimated. If you are a 'normal' user only WM is just fine,but if you have 50+ applications installed (power user) and the device decides to play tricks on you, Microsoft shows its color. Nothing to do with x1. I still believe, a hiend, wimaxed, touch s60 is the answer for all of us - and it will come sooner then some would like

It has been a while since I have posted on here and it seems like it took the X1 for me to put some interest in SE once again.

I've been using the N95-4 and have not looked back since.

I'll be awaiting Dogman's review as I did with the N95 review which was a deciding factor in purchasing said phone.

Thanks Mr. Marc for your great reviews, looking forward to the X1.

let's get over this WM crashing mythology shall we? I am a power user of any phone, computer, motor vehicle, tech gadget that I own and I can assure you WM doesn't have any issue whatsoever running many applications at once.

Virus for WM? You gotta be joking right? Like s60, only one or two viruses have ever been made to infect either platform. btw, the only in-the-wild mobile phone virus getting around affects s60 only - NOT WM (or UIQ for that matter) - the caribe virus. I've often been bluetoothed infected sis files from unknown s60 phones in a crowd. My SE or WM phones remained completely immune on all occasions.

btw, I have already stated in other threads, and I'm the first to admit it, that WM is not as good as s60 (or even A200 for that matter) as a phone OS, but that is quickly changing. Every year WM get's better and better in the phone OS department. A WM phone with non-qwerty keyboard and 5 way controller is quite usable one handed when it comes to making calls etc. When it comes to flexible application interfacing, who wants to do everything one handed when it's so much easier and quicker to hold the phone in one hand and tap at the screen with the other? Honestly this "one handed" thing is fine for phone and messaging, otherwise it's an oversold feature. You don't impress me with your thumb RSI

But as far as PDA use and OS customisation goes WM wins hands down. Handwriting Recognition anyone? Registry editing? File System access? You can't even edit office docs on s60 devices without paying extra for Quick Office Premium - on WM office editing is part of the package. Not to mention application support - WM freeware availability far exceeds s60 - meaning your 50 apps don't have to cost anything more than a google search. You are far far from convincing me of s60 being the answer for all.

We all have different needs, wants and usage patterns. What might be perfect for you can be a nightmare for me. If s60 adopted some of the UI philosophy of A200 I might like it more, otherwise it irritates the shit out of me and I just won't use either s60 OR WM as a phone. It's A200 for phones, WM for PDA's for me.

When it arrives I will be a newbie to WM, p1 being my last phone. However I have used the HWR on the omnia and found the transcriber lacking compared to the P1. As I use HRW much more than typing can anyone recomend an app that is more like the p1 HWR, Thanks.

For any other WM Newbies out there this site has a list of some app which maybe of use. Hopefully more will posted here as we go.....that said would people prefer that sort of thing on a seperate thread?
