of course you can enter text in the candy-bar mode (handwriting... virtual keypad...)

and to the 2nd question..... you may find your answer in www.youtube.com

I'm loving this phone so much despite the fact that it is windows mobile, I wish it was uiq. If it turns out to be stable I'll definitely overlook that it is WM.

Posted by norti
UIQ3 doesn't seem to be stable on my M600 (with the latest and last fw), maybe UIQ3.3 will be... so I'll definitely choose WM and the X1 if it'll come out. And yes, WM has a lot more third party software and games available than UIQ and yes, you can do all the things with your WM phone as you would do with "normal" phones.

What's dissapointing in the Xperia presentations is the orientation delay from switching between portrait and landscape. Design wise I prefer an Xperia that slides Vertically with P1i keyboard like paris

Posted by Nitro Fan
From the look of the "hands on" reviews on YouTube looks to me like HTC are a long way from having a fully finished and working X1 so by the time have finished mucking around with it my guess is 2009 launch date!

Infact the demonstrator seemed nervous everytime she slid the keys and change the orientation because the device never respond immediately.

I have used one at Mobile Asia 2008 Expo...

X1 looks just like it looks in so many live pictures on the net... But in real it's really really compact, thickness wise ok, but heavy... The display size ok but not big.... The screen resolution was just GREAT/AWESOME!!!!!!! Even the brightness, contrast and visibilty were so good that 65k was not making much of a difference... Couldn't check the Xperia thing, first time I didn't knew how to activat it and the second time it was deleted from the phone...

The D-Pad can be used in two ways... First, just like a normal D-Pad... Second, by sliding finger in different directions on the D-Pad...

When I used it, well it was just like any other mobile windows phone, and at its current state, it was too damn slow and just kept getting hanged, hanged and hanged no matter what I did... So I just couldn't use it much... It has stereo speakers but the volume was only average... The keyboard could have been better if it's keys were coming out a bit...

Thanks, Dogmann.

I'd like to see at least 16GB flash in the unit.

Posted by Dogmann
@hahaha112

Do you mean as a free memory card included in the box? as i really don't see that happening to be honest and would be amazed if it did.

As after all not everyone may want or need that much storage and whilst 8GB card are now relatively cheap approx £35 or less i would imagine the 16GB when first released will be at a premium as they always are. Also hopefully the X1 will launch before they are even released.

Damn the X1 looks hot!!!
Love SE and their use of brushed metal, unlike other brands that use the cheapest plastics possible even on their high end phones. coughnokiacohogh.
I was afraid there for a second that SEX1 would use plastic for its casing.

Posted by jcwhite_uk
I like the design of the X1 except for the X1 badge on the back.

Posted by Yakkaimono
@ hahaha112
It is clearly said that the X1 will have 400 MB internal memory and will be compatible to SDHC.
Dogman is right until now SE has only put "free" memory cards in the walkman phone boxes so there is little to no possibility that the xperia will be sold with a memory card.

Posted by SE-Naz
Agree it does look good... Apart from that sticker... which in most cases the networks will probably use to brand it with...

Cheers
ENJOY

Hahaha
Remember the SE W900? It also had 470mb internal memory and SE didn't include a Memory card with that either. Maybe the X1 will come with a 1GB though.

I agree, although it looks better on the black version than the silver. Also, I don't like how they've changed the button that had the Windows logo on it to say "X PANEL". It looks ugly and cheap like a Chinese phone saying "Multimedia" or something stupid.

Posted by technical-expert
It does look good, but i see there's not decent enough protection for lens cover.theres not much beleveling either, which makes it prone to dust and smudges.which makes a need to wipe the lens frequently.Quality if materials looks excellent.Still P5 seems to have and edge over here. Its's got a decent lens cover

Regards,
TECHNICAL EXPERT

Posted by aksd
That is NOT the lens, a photographic lens is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_lens, the piece of plastic you see which is not protected IS protection of the camera lens and is part of the body. If its similar to the TyTn2 it should have another protective plastic transparent layer under it followed by the "actual" lens.

Methinks a "technical expert" must be better informed

Posted by crossmatched
hope that plastic protection cover is scratch resistant

I have another Q?

Is there a SE menu in this phone?

Peace

Posted by misato
I want to reply ma Q

Does this phone X1 only got a 9 Panel menu?

Or does it also have tha SE Menu?

Peace

Posted by iksplusipsilon
@Yakkaimono P series also had memory cards bundled ... I agree with technical-expert , in a sense that X1 would be far more attractive for me, with the proper cover. ...guess we will have to wait for Xnext for that commodity ... :roll eyes:

well the australian version w900i come in black with a 512mb mspd

this phone will be expensive, i think the inclusion of a memory card in the package is a gurantee. all phones over a certain price limit have a memory card in the package, so it makes sense to include one in the most expensive handset, no matter of its internal memory...

edit: i think dogmann meant the phone wont come with a 16gb mem card as some one mentioned it would be good if it came with 16gb flash.

edit: black looks MUCH better...

i don't know if anyone had noticed this before but the silver variant of the X1(slide closed) highly resembles the P1.

Furthermore another solid proof that SE designed the X1

Posted by >500
isn't it obvious its a design.... you can tell a HTC a mile away, and the x1 is defo not one of their designs. HTC's are always more curved.

Sorry mate if i had to post it over and over, as some people were really "childish" saying that X1 is built by HTC and is designed by HTC therefore SE just slapped their logo on top of the device blah blah and more nonsense. although for those who had not yet known that, my previous post maybe helpful for them to realize

@razec
my post was not really directed at you, though it did come across that way, sorry

was just a general comment. it is obvious its not a htc design.

Yeah, thats true, especially some freaky idiots from gsmarema who constantly bashing X1 by saying its Htc made

So, what if there is htc made? As if Htc is a company produce a jerk.

Why would HTC give SE such a good design? It's like ManU giving Arsenal Ronaldo, "here have Ronaldo for nothing, he's not a bad player, we don't need him".

Anyways, how far does the finger based interface go with the X1 apart from the panels? I remember the HTC Touch having only a few screen that used the finger but as soon as an application was opened, you had to use the pen. Does X1 improve on this, does WM allow for this as well?

As per my usage, the camera UI, Media Application and the Xperia panels are only finger friendly application... The rest of the Windows Mobile 6.1 is the same and would require more of a stylus...

If P1 was in Black, then that would have resembled Black X1 as well...

Even the T303 resembles these two from the top front and it comes in both the Balck and Silver...

On this site, you could post some questions (in swedish) regarding the new phones... This was one of the questions:
http://www.mobil.se/ArticlePa[....]/20080415093051_MOB496.dbp.asp

"DS: Har hört att Xperia kommer att ha PSX liknande spel, Stämmer detta? Och isåfall kommer den optiska styrplattan fungera som en analog joysick?

Magnus Andersson: Hej DS! XPERIA X1 kommer med Windows Mobile 6.1 som ju är en öppen plattform där man kan ladda ner och installera olika applikationer och spel. Den optiska styrplattan kan garanterat användas som input till dessa. "

Translated:
DS: I've heard that Xperia will have PSX-alike games, is this correct? And will the optical joystick work like an analogue joystick?

Magnus Andersson: Hi DS! XPERIA X1 comes with WM 6.1 which is an open platform where you can download and install several/different applications and games... The optical joystick can garanteed be used as an input for these...

So I would think that you don't need to use the stylus that much (if don't want to)... Finger friendly interface is nice, but if you can use the optical joystick for allmost everything, I'll think that I will use that more than the touchscreen... (Leaving all those fingerprints)

I was hoping that a lot of the applications were finger friendly but I guess that is to do with WM. Still, I'm sure there will be many third party applications to come out since the hardware is great.

Posted by razec
^^ add to that X1's software isn't finalized yet i'm sure there will be more software features to be installed on it. more eyecatchers,(as usual with SE) more sony/ericsson stuffs besides the XMB media manager, but the essential matter is the performance to handle them

Cool phone, but I absolutely HATE the design of it.

Posted by badassmam
I think the design is great, a full qwerty as a option will definately appeal to those who hate the rocker (like me). However, my source says that if you have large fingers, the top row of keys are difficult to press and also that its hard to tell if you have pressed a key or not. Quite big issues actually but thats his opinion. We'll have to wait and see.

Does this phone X1 also have tha SE Menu?

No it doesnt.

Actually there are many types of SE menu that was implemented, what type are ou referring to? the regular SE UI menu? XMB? Camera UI menu?

Posted by hahaha112
why do they not put SDHC in X1 it would be much better with

Posted by bavlondon2
Because its HTC made and they dont support that format.

I say the same for all the keys, atleast with the protos, and I don't even have large fingers... Maybe they might fix the usablility of the keys in the final version...

Too bad

If you look at the whitepaper of the x1 you'll see that SDHC is supported.

Here is the content of the whitepaper where it is stated.

microSD card slot

A microSD card slot will be supported. Different kinds of content (pictures, audio, video clips, etc.) can be
stored on memory cards, and transferred to other consumer products with compatible memory card, for
example digital cameras, camcorders, portable music players, TVs, photo printers and computers.SDHC (High Capacity) is supported.
