Yesterday night i have fully charged my bluetooth handsfree DS980. And when today morning i tried to switched it on, it shows the 'sony ericsson' name on display - normal startup but then went off. Now everytime i try to switch it on, the same name appears and goes off. I plugged charger thinking the battery isnt charge properly, it works good. The battery is showing fully charged with charge sign just like in mobiles. But as soon as you unplugged the charger, it goes off. Though i have fully charged the battery yesterday evening.

So i guess there is something wrong with the battery only. If anyone knows how to get the extra battery for that as i had been to shop couple of months back and they told me that bluetooth handsfree are not repaireable. Or anyone can tell me how to open that. I know how to take out the face-plate.

Any help will be appreciated as right now i am not in a position to take new one. And using handfree comes in my basic need.

Update: Again i tried, this time it went to the main display for fraction of a second before it went off. This time it showed the battery charged upto 60%.

U can repair it unless its a board level fault. U can get t battery in electronic shops. Just try it out. Or check it in ebay. Good luck.

Posted by idumbakumar
There should at least 3 screws underneath the faceplate. Try to find out. after removing u can find the battery its easily detachable replace it wit a new one. I'm here to help u.

How much is the battery cost? My HBH-DS980 gets completely discharged(empty) after 3 hours of continuous playing.

That's pretty much as much as I got out of mine when I still had it.

Hmmm.. But the offcial specifications say it is capable of streaming for approx. 6 hours.

Thank you idumbakumar for your reply. Actually after opening the face plate, there is no screws, so i guess it is all pressed down. But i couldnt resist myself to explore it and i found a battery-orange in colour after peeling off the company sticker. Then i try to open with force with screw-driver and one side of the plastic cover had come out slightly. so i use credit card to take it out completely, just like you open your k850i. but i managed to open 90% but 10% i couldn't open. As i am afraid to give more pressure that could break something and i have to let go my ds980 to heaven.
When i put everything down again, i found that i have damaged the Next/previous song changer button, but i guess it is not placed properly. And one main, play/pause button's small knob is broken. I think tomorrow i will stick it back and pack the whole thing together and give it to sonyericsson service center. Let hope everything come back to normal.

Buntoo, Nightblade
I have not used it continuously but my battery runs for a day with heavy usage of music listening, calling.

@ceaser2008, But what if you're watching a movie? It starts giving battery low tone after 3 or 3.5 hours...

i am not using it for watching the movie as on my k850i, if i listen the movie from ds980, it would lag terribly.

Watchin' movie on PC

Posted by ceaser2008
I have just given it to one of local repair shop. According to him, there is something wrong with circuit. If it is a battery problem, firstly the standby time would gradually decreased and then the battery die. But in my case, it has happened all of a sudden. So he will check that.

Buntoo,
Can you tell me how much is the mA of the battery? As i have peeled off that label.
About watching movie on pc with it, i think its a good idea. I will buy a bluetooth dongle, once it is repaired.

@ceaser2008, I dunno about the battery capacity in mA. Watching movie on PC and streaming sound to this handsfree is a great amusement Now i watch movies on my Galaxy S paired with my DS980. No lag at all.

Hi ceaser somewat u managed to broken it. I thought u would reply the progress so that I can help u further, sorry i could've given some ideas that where are the screws might be. If u open it completely then thats all. Just take the battery out ot should be connected by a small plug. Just pull it. And try checking mobiles spares shop or electronic shops or try google or ebay the battery. Please update the progress i can help u. Generally i dont fully trust the local servicing shops. And i dont think they are even serviced a couple of BT headsets. So keep ur eye on it.

hello idumbakumar,

Your help is really apprecialted. but as i said earlier, there isnt any screws. It was pressed down with somekind of locks. About the part which i have broken, somehow i managed to stick it back on its place with the help of fevi-quick. After i sticked it when i put it back on its place, it was working smooth again. so i guess god have saved me there cause the two parts which i have sticked were so small that you cannot hold them in your hand.

About the service man, you might be right, but i had no option. i went to two service centers, one said, they dont have one and will be available after a month. second said, it is not repairable. they dont repair BT handsets. They just replace it in case of warranty. On the other hand, that service man did show me one BT battery, he had but it was not the same size as in mine, but he has one. so i guessed he is repairing BT handsets as well. The other reason which he gave was also legit one, which i have already mentioned in my previous post. so i gave him to try. Lets keep fingers crossed and hope it will be in life again.

idumbakumar,

Finally it is repaired. He has changed its battery. Not the original one but he has one for nokia. He has managed to accomodate in it. Now it is under observation, how long the battery last. It costs me Rs. 400

Buntoo,
Can you pls tell me, when you watch movie over pc, does audio-video lag?? I mean, does it play in synchronization? Cause today i bought one BT dongle of bluesoiell company, it lags terribly. Though internet and other things are good but this video playing is terrible. I played .flv .mp4 videos in winamp and vlc player but the result is same, lag. Pls help me or suggest me one good BT dongle.

By the way, i am using windows 7 32-bit, 1 gb ram, dual core processor.

Thats great news. Congrats... Pc is lagging when playing video while BT audio streaming? That shouldn't happen. May be problem with the os? Or the bluesoleil? Check with XP..

My PC is running on Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), 2GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, Intel Core2Duo E7300 2.93Gz, 500GB 7200RPM HDD, 500W SilverStone Modular PowerSupply and and ............ l0l The system specifications doesn't matter

I'm using MSI Starkey Dongle and i've never had any lag issue even when i was on my old P4 system. XP or Vista or 7 that is not the prob. You must stream your Audio/Video over A2DP profile not the headset profile. Try using broadcom drivers and see what happens.

I am looking for good bluetooth adaptor.

About my ds980, i have returned that battery as it was new but last less than a day. So i returned it. Now again i am searching for the battery. I have checked with sony service center, they will enquire and let me know after 5 days. Very poor service. I have given that battery to a local shop as sample. He will give me final answer on this wednesday. I hope he gets one.
Idumbakumar, pls can you help me getting one? You were right, there were 3 screws underneath the face plate. Sony is too smart thinking anyone would open it by his ownself. Two were hiding underneath a rubber circle pack. And one was covered by a somekind of glue.

Pls help me.

Posted by buntoo
Get MSI Starkey 3x Faster BT Dongle. I'm using it and its great.

Posted by ceaser2008
Buntoo, thanks for your suggestion but here in my city i couldnt find any good branded bluetooth adapter except the cheaper, china made things. I think i should wait for IT fair where i think i can get one good adapter which is due in this month, i think.

No online buying for me as i dont trust any.

@ceaser2008, Ye wali dongle kon kon si profiles ko support kerti ha?

Posted by ceaser2008
Profiles??

It runs serial port, dial up network, file transfer etc.

However, meine abhi tak ds980 ko connect nahi kiya hai. Woh abhi tak mila nahi hai. Shopkeeper said it is working now but not giving full performance so he will give me back on saturday.

Wish You best of Luck!
Hope you'll get your handsfree back soon

Thanks buntoo,

Yesterday, i bought this dongle. It works for contacts and messages as well with the same bluesoleil driver. That antenna dongle is not working for it.
Now i am getting bit impatient for my ds980.

I still wonder why broadcom driver you gave me is not detecting both dongles ? Whats could be the reason? One thing i noticed is after installing broadcom driver, nothing appears on my desktop. No icons, nothing. But in control panel it is showing installed.

I don't know why it ain't working on your system with your device...
That driver is for Windows Vista/7 only and yes in Windows 7 nothing appears on the desktop (like My Bluetooth Places in XP/vista) after installation. When you plug in your bluetooh device an icon appears in the bottom right in the taskbar notifications.

Look @ the Photo:

And Congrats for your new device. Hope that it'll work fine with your handsfree

wow buntoo, you have very good wallpaper and i must say its bit crowded desktop

about that dongle, i have returned it as the message and the contact service is working now with antenna dongle as well. previously it was not, dont know how???

Here is my desktop....

I am transferring songs from my mobile to my pc.

Posted by buntoo
You have so many games installed in your system

And NO, my desktop is not crowded at all. I've put only those shortcuts to docks & taskbar which i need @ anytime by a single click of mouse.

Posted by ceaser2008
Oh i see. which dock you are using?

More flash games are in that folder.

Posted by buntoo
I'm using Winstep Xtreme v10.6

A few snapshots:

Thanks buntoo for the link. I have tried it. I am afraid it is too advanced for me. so i returned to my simple rocketdock.

About my ds980, it has came back to me. Shopkeeper said he cant repair it. Now i am thinking of getting the battery from the first repairshop which was giving me slight less standby time but at least my ds980 will come in life. Meantime, i will keep searching for the battery.

Posted by buntoo
@ceaser2008, Yep, this dock is a bit complicated to configure but its simply the best of all docks i've tried yet.

Anyway, why don't you consider buying another BT handsfree. I personally like and thinking of buying MW600. What do you think abt it?

Posted by ceaser2008
Yes mw600 is the best available from sony but for now i cannot afford it. I would be wise spending Rs. 500 then spending Rs. 3000+

Has anyone tried to take an HBH-DS980 apart by himself/herself? I actually own a DS970 which is broken (the left ear-piece is non-functional) and a DS980 whose battery is dead but works well if it is plugged in the charger. So, I was thinking of taking the battery from the DS970 and puting it into the DS980, however I'm having a hard time taking the DS970 apart without breaking it I'd like to keep the DS980 as intact and usable as possible.
