K850i - Taking pictures in the dark

Hey guys.

I've recently bought a K850i, upgrading from the K750 (God bless that phone). Apart from the fact there's no quick key for the light when in camera mode (which I will find hard to believe lol), I've noticed that taking pictures in a room that is pitch black do not come out at all. However, if I take a picture of an object up close in a room with no light, the picture comes out OK (but only of the object, no background).

In short, I can't seem to take a picture of a whole room with no light inside the room. The camera flash is set to automatic, and I don't believe I've changed any settings unless I did so unintentionally. With my old k750 you could get a picture inside a room without light, but I cannot get ANYTHING on my new k850 without focusing on an object <1 metre from the camera.

Is this normal for k850s? If not, is there any way I can change it?

Cheers guys.

PS - wasn't sure which section to post this in, so apologies to moderators if this thread needs to be moved.

If you have the AF light on auto, it should automatically come on? Make sure none of your fingers are touching/covering the rear panel of the phone when taking a pic too.

Unfortunately this is normal for the K850 and one of it’s most unforgivable faults. SE sells a Cybershot branded phoned where the flash is out of sync with the shutter! It’s got better with later FW releases but is definitely not 100% cured. I sometimes turn the flash of completely to get a low light picture. Without the flash the camera changes the exposure so a picture does comes out, it’s just nowhere near the quality of one where the flash works correctly.

Hello welxcome to Esato. You must have covered th light sensor behind the camera. That is one of the bad design this phone has came up with. If you hold the phone like the picture in the pamphlet that came in your phone package you will not get dark photos. I suggest you play around with your camera as it is "free" and not film consuming. Goodluck.
