Do or die.

Reeflotz, are you always doing animated character or some real people sketches as well. How about natural scenery ??

Posted by reeflotz
most of the time I draw animated characters, I did some real people sketches before as long as there is a picture for reference, but I'm having difficulties in drawing real life sketches, its hard because shading has to be consistent and I usually end up smudging some of it when I draw . Natural scenery I haven't really tried, I'm interested more in anime manga style drawing for now

Tried sketching something new:

Posted by ceaser2008
Strange, i find real pics easier. I can draw a sketches within 10-15 mins, depending on the shape of face.

Same with me @reeflotz, anime characters were alot easier to draw once you've mastered the basics please do more CG! but don't forget to post the sketches as well (for the sake of the topic title )

regarding your suicidal sketch, i'd say you're on a bad mood were you? (:cough: tomino :cough:)

your latest sketches were really nice!, (again envying you for having all those time to work with your drawings!)

please do more CG!

sure I'm planning on CGing my last sketch, already did the lineart. About the suicidal sketch, it was because I was listening to a game soundtrack Persona 3 which is why I ended up drawing that In the game they summon their persona by pointing their gun (not a real gun) on their heads, once the trigger is pulled glass like shards come out and their persona is summoned to fight the forces of evil called shadows It's a nice game.

@Ceaser that's great! me I usually take about 1 and a half up to 2 hours to finish a sketch. 30 minutes for initial sketch then the rest for adding details.

Posted by ceaser2008
Reeflotz, for me, it takes 10-15 mins to draw initial shapes with less details, then i would relax the person and do some shading and other details. In all, the sketch completes within 30-35 mins.

Posted by razec
You guys have completely beaten me! sketching takes 2 hours or more because i'm carefully drawing the details, but thanks to a tutorial book i've read i can now do more or less an hour for a complete body + face sketch, the CGI is the time consuming process here, i can only finish one per day that's the reason i can't provide some on this thread as my work needs much of my time

when i was doing concepts back then it would take me 2 days for a PSed image or a whole week to finish a project - a project typically contains three or more pictures. now that's really slow

I know this work isn't hand drawn, but finally after hours of work on the computer it is complete. I noticed some errors on the original sketch like the nose misplaced a little, a misplaced button on the outfit and the forehead a little too big, fixed those while doing the CG and here it is:

Posted by razec
Then i'll change the title to accomodate CG arts as well, but i'll strictly limit this to hand drawing turned CG or CG made using vector drawings, anything as long as it's still related to drawing

also your CGI skills are really great @reeflotz! just look at how a computer can give greater soul to a drawing! i only have one suggestion, give more light reflection to her eyes, it'll show more liveliness to it
[ This Message was edited by: razec on 2011-06-03 03:23 ]

Posted by reeflotz
Thanks for the suggestion, yeah I've noticed it now the eyes need more reflections. If you see anything else that's wrong please do comment, It'll help me a lot.

Posted by razec

Well then, please give her more bust size, and no it's not what you mean, It's not that i'm being "ecchi" or erotic but then again since she's quite tall she will need it flat chested anime characters were typically the small frame-wide head "moe" ones (ex. kanade tachibana from angel beats! or the similarly looking Eucliwood Hellscythe from "kore wa zombie desu ka"). also pay attention to the chin width, cute tall girls usually have a little narrow ones (take a look at infinite stratos - they're all damn cute!)

Aside than those suggestions, i think you'll get much better on your next work. that's expected afterall thanks for giving life to this old thread mate!

Posted by reeflotz
ok, great , will try to apply them on my next drawing hopefully I'll be able to apply them and get better results, will post here when I finish another drawing.

Posted by reeflotz
new drawing, old character, trying to change my drawing style, it seems my older drawing style was a fail because I was trying to mix manga style and realistic, now I'm just gonna focus on manga style.

@razec need your opinion on this

Posted by razec
^^ Thumbs Up for the eyes! That's Na-Ga style you have there mate, the eyes were reminiscent of his works, well he's one of my most admired CG anime/designers and is responsible for my favorite Rin Natsume and Kanade Tachibana.

The drawing is much more streamlined, can you try shading the upper portion of the eyes as it would give the character more life, then if you CGI'ed it, try applying slight blur onto it, you'll like the results i bet. the hair is well done. just try to draw the guns in a 3D perspective. and then try to curve her body (as if striking a pose) to make it much better looking. Overall it's really nice looking already, I'm excited to the CG version of this!

Also, good luck with your studies mate, It's so nice to see a fellow pinoy here

Posted by reeflotz
kabayan thanks for the critique . I didn't shade the eyes because I plan on doing a CG version, kinda got lazy with shading the pencil art and yeah I agree needs a bit more pose to make it look more interesting. I'll try spending more time on drawing the guns next time. Might take a while for the CG to get done but I'll post it here once it's finished.

Posted by razec
Anime girls with guns have been quite popular these days so here's my new work

PS: the anime is so cool that i rewatched the first EP 7 times

Posted by reeflotz
that's great what anime did you watch? looks interesting, I'm gonna watch it too

Posted by razec
Hidan no Aria, the first EP is EPIC, i just love the coolness of the protagonist there, the character is just like shana afterall, same voice actress but she's less tsundere than shana

Posted by reeflotz
the character just like shana? then I better watch it

anyway here's the colored version of my work, I really need to draw better guns, bullets, expressions and the hands

[ This Message was edited by: reeflotz on 2011-06-20 11:09 ]

Posted by razec
liked the blurring effects you applied on the wings, and the eyes are so angel beats! ~ish, or i should say P.A. Works~ish but that's one of the reasons i love that show anyway. you seem to have forgotten to color the eyes white

Anyway, Aria wields two pistols + 2 katanas. more badass than shana imho. also Kinji on Hidan no Aria is a far cooler/stronger male character than yuji on shana. also the hysteria mode is badass

Posted by reeflotz
looks like I did forgot the white color at the eyes , anyway updated it now, edited my earlier post, looks better .

^^

Posted by reeflotz
watched up to ep 10 of Hidan no Aria, First episode is the most badass then as I watch the rest of the episodes most of the time I keep on asking myself WTH AM I WATCHING?? lol I found myself sometimes lost on the tons of fanservice but it was epic anyway.

anyway for the topic I just made a very quick sketch, Cray version 2, nothing much, not gonna color this one, been busy nowadays.

Posted by reeflotz
well I suddenly found time to draw although it's still unfinished, this one I'm planning to CG.

Posted by razec
nice sketch, would love to see it in colours
Finally managed to finish Hidan no Aria, TBH the show needs a season 2 to fill up the unanswered questions, the 1st EP follows the manga hence the epicness, after that.... it became so so... still i enjoyed the epicness of Aria and Kinji's tandem

I can now start making my own CG fanart but it would take time due to work, i'll try my best to make it look well

Posted by reeflotz
yeah I agree, the story got cliched and there seems to be a lot of plot holes at the end, but I also want a second season and will definitely watch it. The early episodes were interesting especially when Shirayuki was there to complicate things

Looking forward to your CG fanart, I still haven't started mine, my drawing was still left unfinished also due to having not much free time for it.

Posted by reeflotz
This thread has gone quiet for more than a month now, still havent finished my sketch . Anyway had some fun with 3D modelling and rendering using AutoCAD, thought I'd share it here.

well finally it's been colored

That's really good kabayan! i've made a CG render of yuriko of RA3 as well as a the CG render of the female character holding a staff that i've submitted a while ago but still 80% finished due to the lack of time and "inspiration". i envy you to be honest keep up the good work!

Posted by reeflotz
haha thanks, whenever your CG is done share it here , I agree time and inspiration really is important I couldn't do any CG the past months due to being very busy, and it is indeed hard to conceptualize or draw without any kind of inspiration.

Anyway I've just finished watching Ga-Rei Zero, it had a very nice story, one of the best I've watched. Currently watching Shakugan no Shana 3

On topic:

I did some coloring practice and tested some more filters in photoshop:

I know the drawing is off, I made mistakes I think the head is too big and the face lacked some curves. The blackboard was a stock image I got from google.

I don't know why I clicked on this post becasue I could not draw to save my life!! However, this is some amazing work. WOW.... I wish I could draw.

Posted by Bonovox
I am pretty good at drawing with pencil only i did post mine a while back. But these ones here now are way better than mine fantastic!!

Posted by reeflotz
Thanks guys, Glad you appreciate it, it took me a lot of time to make those

Posted by Bonovox
This is a photo of some of my drawings done in 1994. It's all I have left of what I used to do been out of practice for years. Bear in mind one is rude of a model Others are of Tenby harbour in Wales,BONO & a baby with Natalie Imbruglia(singer) & Delores O'Rhiordan singer too. I had them on my wall back then

Posted by procterdc
Nice!!

Posted by razec
@Bonovox: I can't see it

@kabayan: that's one awesome work, the second image really gives me an angel beats aura due to the lighting, i'm currently watching Gundam AGE, Kamisama no memo chou, Sacred seven, Steins;gate and will be expecting Unicorn episode 4 on the 11th, i also wanted to watch SNS 3 but right now my list is filled and i can't watch more

A family of dumplings (dango) from Clannad

I made this when i was still watching Clannad almost a year ago now (yes Clannad was a 2007 anime and i only managed to watch it last year ) still having difficulty finishing my other works

Posted by reeflotz
That's a nice vector art there Watched it too, still I don't know why but I prefer the Tomoyo Arc for Tomoya.

Currently working on a new wallpaper hopefully I finish it before class starts again.

I played with the visual novel before and loved Tomoyo/Tomoya's chemistry, both were strong and responsible, if only they really were the canonical couples. but Kyou would also be the perfect girl to him. i disliked the too-moe nagisa to be honest if not with her seiyu (mai nakahara who voiced Hatsune of Angel Beats!) i'm currently working on my first vector based original character. good luck with your work kabayan!

Lelouch: everyone bow down before me!

tada!

everyone familiar with the show would not be surprised with what i said on my first sentence

Posted by razec
So for a new anime character here's yurin, my first anime fanart in CGI

it took me nearly 10 hours to finish her (but that was within two days )

excellent vector art , did you use inkscape? or other programs as well? nice to see your works, time to study them and steal your techniques nah joke. Keep up the great work kabayan!

Posted by razec
Many many thanks kabayan, i'm so glad you appreciated it though i still think there were some problems on it after waking up this morning and checking it, i used inkscape for the lineart and coloring, photoshop CS3 for the fonts and some effects. The reason is that inkscape is still slow for working on anything beyond shapes and colors and i still have to wait for 0.49 so they can now use "cairo" ( the one used by Firefox for HW acceleration) for the full rendering. photoshop can do vectors as well but they aren't that functional (they're not meant to be afterall), you would have to use Illustrator for it (and its very expensive! inkscape is free )

its just only at this time that i was able to really focus on this as time constraints are always preventing me, i was inspired by your ability to overcome time constraints.

EDIT: i was finally able to catch up with you watching SNS III, finally we have the series in HD goodness and Shana is as awesome as ever. finally the answers to all the questions raised during the first two seasons will come on this last part. Gundam AGE is surprisingly good despite the childish looks of the characters, but yurin is really cute sadly she might not end u with Flit as the annoying Emily is fated to be his wife

Posted by reeflotz
Yeah can't wait for the next episode of SNS 3, it's the only one I'm watching right now.

Here's my last work for now I usually don't draw stuff like this but anyway, I'll be back on Christmas vacation when I have time again. I really need to draw better.

Posted by razec
i'll expect this on your profile in DA so you can read my thoughts on it I'm loving your couple kabayan!

Posted by reeflotz
I've just uploaded it on my DA, I still am bothered by the way it is drawn though, couple of mistakes in Cray's face and hair and the perspective on Tomoko. Any suggestions/thoughts/criticisms you can give will be great.

you can always look at a screenshot from any anime you have watched and try copying their poses to your original design, that's how i was able to start making anime poses for my designs, and don't feel intimidated as every artist needs time to improve (even myself as well)

up next: i'll be working houki from IS (she's the best looking female anime character i've seen so far) i'll try finishing it so i can post it by tomorrow

Posted by reeflotz
Nice, I'll be waiting for your artwork.

Well some of my works had reference poses from wallpapers of anime series, but I try to create something that's original although frustrating at times because they don't come out in the way I had pictured them in my mind.

Anyway due to free time today I decided to draw something new. Why she's holding my phone instead of a stopwatch I really don't know why
