Yes, but i believe these are only for smart phones? I'm using a K800i. Do they make full install versions for Java?. I don't see a need to install much more than California, but only on occasions...

can anyone post pictures of the interface please

Now they have finally added programs on their download site. I have downloaded Wayfinder Earth and Navigator trial version and briefly tested the wayfinder Earth. It works nicely and I'm able to zoom in to street level.

The program seems to send out a sms every time I use it, maybe some kind of license check. There doesn´t seem to be a download-meter either, so it's difficult to keep tab on how much I will have to spend for downloading the maps.

Had mine for a couple of days now. It seems to work fine & sound OK. The two free apps are Tracker & GPS Location. The Tracker is used for excerice and looks quite good. The GPS Loction is a basic app that gives you what it says, your location. There's no setting the type, just Lat & Lon. In the UK this is quite useless as all maps are in OSGB. You also get speed but can't save waypoints which makes it quite backwards. Basically it's just two basic to be of much use. You can also download a free trial of Wayfnider 7. This is a full GPS mapping app, but you'll have to pay for it after 30 days and then also have to pay for data charges depending on how much you use it. I tried it a couple of time but it keeps locking up. Overall the Tracker is the most usefull and will be good for running/moutain biking/skiing ect as it give you things like your distance & max speed. Certainly hope some better software becomes available.

Any screenshots or more info of the Tracker app? Is it like Nokias Sports Tracker? ( http://research.nokia.com/res[....]jects/SportsTracker/index.html )
Is it possible to download and try it out (it should work with any type of GPS i guess...)

Posted by Dart5
The Nokia one is similar, but with slightly different layouts and an extra calendar screen. Also can't export files. Haven't had a chance to take any shots yet.

Just hooked up the HGE-100 to my K850i and I'm having some issues downloading its software. When it prompts me to download software for the device I reply 'yes'. The phone then opens up a browser page with a 'Fun and Downloads' heading and 'GPSApps' sub-heading. Underneath this is a blank white space with no options or links to choose from. Is/has anyone else encountered this? Is this just a result of the site being temporarily down or are there compatibility issues with the K850i? I see that SE has taken the K850i off of the compatibility list from their HGE-100 website.....

Thanks for your help in advance!

Think the site must just be down for a while as I used that method to get them on my K850 (which def works with HGE-100). You can also navigate directly to the free downloads on the SE site if you want to try that.

1. can anyone confirm if it works with trekbuddy?
2. how is the quality of headphones in comparing with other headphones?

I have tried using the HGE-100 with a K850i too. The tracker and satellite info programs work, but Wayfinder Navigator does not. Instead of seeing my location on a map I just get a white screen with a globe logo, a satellite logo and the Wayfinder logo. Wayfinder technical support have confirmed to me via phone and e-mail that their software can't be used with a K850i and an HGE-100 at the moment.

The SE site does not list the K850i as compatible with the HGE-100, although I'm sure it used to a week or so ago. The shop where I got my HGE-100 (blueunplugged) was listing it as compatible when I bought it.

Like others on this forum, I have found that since last night the software download page is not available.

The regular wayfinder software certainly won't work because it only looks for bluetooth GPS devices. (I tried it). The version that is supposed to work with the HGE-100 can be downloaded here (via your phone): http://sehge100.getwf.com

It's all very unsatisfactory. The HGE-100 is fairly pointless because it only comes with trial/demo software. There's a hidden cost of getting the wayfinder subscription. It's this season's flagship accessory and it isn't compatible with this season's flagship phone.

Hopefully SE and Wayfinder will work out how to get everything playing nicely together. If anyone gets it to work, please post here.

I've been trying for some time now and the Wayfinder app does not work at all. I get the same result as you (this is HGE-100 with a K850i). I can give it a try with my T650i, but I think I will get the same result (as the apps are in Java).

Hopefully Nav4all or AmazeGPS will get HGE-100 support soon.

I read that it was compatible with k850 for a week ago at SE official website... It is pretty annoing that they switch meanings every day.. :S

Well, you can also download it straight from the browser:

Would love to know how well this works and is it worth using it???

when I bought my HGE 3 weeks ago, there were 4 apps to download, next day only 3 and then only 2 , but earth gps is the same as mgmaps and navigator is the same as nav4all. but in the nav4all it works only 60s and then it lost gps signal. maybe someone can tell why.
for offline is very good trekbuddy.

Can't use mine at the moment as K850 has been returned to be fixed. In the mean time if anyone knows of an app that runs with this and shows your location in OSGB format (for use with Ordnance Survey maps) rather than Lat/Lon I'd be very grateful for the info.

The free applications (Tracker & GPS Location can also be downloaded from:

Tracker and GPS Location seems to work well with HGE-100.

I'm considering getting this for my K800i and K600i. Would this work in the US more specifically Florida?

Anyone manged to dl them to PC or has the jad stored in the phone?

OK so I tried again on Monday 12th. When you plug the HGE-100 into a K850i there's a new version of the Wayfinder software to download that more or less works with the phone. It looks to me like Sony Ericsson and Wayfinder are still working out compatibility issues because there was some more software available for a bit that disappeared from the download site again.

Anyway, I have actually seen a map on my K850i, and I have even had it plan a route and know roughly where I am. It's still very buggy - the menu options leap about for no reason at all; a map will work sometimes and not at other times. The whole thing is slow, clunky, flaky, and imprecise.

Even when it's working, there are lots of irritating bugs. Using the 'pedestrian' setting still recommends that you to obey one-way traffic systems, and even though I have downloaded maps I'm not totally sure that the program isn't downloading an entire map of London every time I use it. The wait to get a map suggests that this might be the case, and I'm half-expecting a nasty bill this month as a result. It can take ages to calculate a route - longer in some tests than the route would take to walk.

On the whole I'd say that the HGE-100 doesn't get beyond being a stupid toy/expensive demo. The wired device is uncomfortable to wear. I personally don't like the headphones. The GPS seems to only really work when the HGE-100 is visibly pinned on the outside of your clothing, and I find this unacceptably un-cool - I'm a geek, not a nerd. You will often arrive at your destination before the software has worked out where you're starting from.

Essentially I'm saying that now that it's sort of working, I'm paradoxically more frustrated with the thing than when it wasn't working at all. I'll probably use it when I'm visiting friends at a new address, but it's going to spend a lot of time taunting me for my insatiable gadget-lust from inside a drawer for most of the time.

If you're reading this and considering getting an HGE-100 to use with your K850, I would strongly advise you against it.

Perhaps a silly question, but has anyone tried this with a simple java app like google maps? That would be enough for me. Although im still waiting for a fix so that it can work with the p1i and the rest of the smart phones.

Ok, so I got my GPS Enabler HGE-100 today. The device is cool and the sound quality from the speakers seems quite good. I used the tracker and GPS location applications without any problems. I only played a little with the wayfinder stuff because I think it is kind of useless to have to pay for a GPRS connection every time you use it. I would much rather download maps for it.

Anyway, I noticed when browsing the phone from my computer a folder in the "Other" directory called sports. The files in this seems to be the track information from the tracker software, what I would like to know if I can open this file on my PC. The whole reason I bought the GPS was to import this track information into Google maps or similar. or to upload info from Google Maps to the phone and then follow it.

Does anyone know if it possible to read these files from the phone, or if there is another software that will work with the phone. I have checked out Trekbuddy, navigem and GPSJ, which all seem to only work with bluetooth GPS's.

Hopfully someone has a solution to this problem otherwise I have just bought a turkey.

Cheers,
Dave.

Does Google Mobile Maps Identify HGE 100 GPS Enabler ?

Posted by twwong
no.

Posted by sranjanm2002
why ? can we programme GMM to identify serial port ?

Posted by ][nquisitor
Its about time for some compatible soft to make an appearance, i m sure that right after a working, official soft appear, we will soon able to get a similar free version of it. But how much long we have to wait?
I was ready to buy this device, but the negative feedback prevented me, of doing so, it seems that was the right choice.
And if i m not mistaken, the device isnt as precise as the surf star III GPS devices, but is it any better than the Nokia built in?

GPS Enabler HGE-100 it's possible to work on w810??
i know it's not on the list of compatibility, but...wat's the difference with other phone on the list?

Just got some interesting informations from the author of mobile trail explorer.
http://www.substanceofcode.com/software/mobile-trail-explorer/

He finally got a HGE-100 and he has been loking for a suitable software and found trekbuddy (as com port
you have to choose comm:AT5 and baudrate 9600: http://www.trekbuddy.net/
Also mgmaps supports gps over serial bus.

But both softwares have not the lot of features like mobile trail explorer, so he thinks about implementing HGE-support to his software.

Let'S see and wait.

1. It technically works OK, the problem I have is the software available for it make it of limited use. It comes with a couple of simple apps but neither can do the basic task of saving a waypoint and displaying it. I could also do with something that shows postion in OSGB rather then lat/lon. I gave up on the WayFinder demo SW, as it didn't seem to work and costs to download the maps. I probably wouldn't use it anyway. The headphones work well, but in hindsight I'd just buy HPM-82 (or similar) for less than half the cost and not bother with the GPS function until I get a phone with built in maps. There may be some other apps on the horizon (see previous posts here) which would improve it. However, I am just about to use mine when I go for a run to record the distance I've gone and listen to music while doing it - so it's not a total waste!

2. Couldn't say

Anyone using this with P1i? At first the P1i wasn't supported but it looks like it is now! I'm mostly interested in the Tracker software/function (gonna use running/cycling)

Posted by alex
Hi guys, would like to know those software for download under http://sehge100.com for wayfinder navigation and wayfinder earth is it free application or just a trial application which required to purchase in order to have full functions?

Is it possible share HGE-100 connectet to mobile via bluetooht?

It will a way to use it as "external" gps antenna... i.e. for use with a PDA...

Posted by Mr Miyagi
am trying to establish if the connector for this device would allow me to plug in my charger too, since it it does not give you an option to plug in your charger, won't it drain the battery really fast when using the gps?

thanks

get a dual port charger its one with a pug on the back of it sawell

hey guys, will this work with the g900? :S
its not on the compatible device list yet the software such as tracker are available for download on the SE website?

Posted by piflechien
I have never been able to get a fix with the satelites on the G900

Posted by strizlow800
So it is not working on G900 right? If not on G900 it won't work on p1 probably... Cuz I was about to get a bluetooth GPS adapter and I'm interested if it is going to work with my P1. Does someone have experience with P1 and BT GPS modules?

Posted by F-Lexx
I've recently bought an HGE-100 GPS enabler and I'm having a hard time finding software for it. Besides Wayfinder (which I don't like) and Google maps, what other software can work with it?

Posted by piflechien
amaze
mgmaps
nav4all

Posted by Consumology
@strizlow800: It is working fine with G900 and Nav4all so I assume it also works with P1i.

Posted by jussisguy
So is mgmaps compatible with it? because if it that is brilliant as that can let you store map tiles on your phone so it doesn't have to connect to the internet all the time

Also out of interest whats the quality of the GPS signal with it i mean does it work if youve got in your pocket or does it need to be out in the open?
[ This Message was edited by: jussisguy on 2009-05-29 00:15 ]

Posted by Consumology
Well, I just use it in my car and I never take it out cause I was hiding the cables as good as I could. I cannot imagine that it works when it is really covered, when I tried it out I had it stuck to my jacket.
When I tried it , Amaze did not recognize it, Nav4all does and MGMaps I have not tried yet.

Posted by jussisguy
^ Thanks thats been really useful, maybe a bluetooth GPS device would be more suitiable for me then

Posted by Consumology
I just tried out MGMaps, like with Amaze it does not find it, only Nav4All works at the moment for me. Also Wayfinder used to work but it is not free.
If you really wanna walk around with it then go for a Bluetooth one. The cable is really long and even with the headset removed part of it hangs around. Makes you look like a Borg.

Posted by jussisguy
Ok then thanks for the help, ill probably get a bluetooth one but do you think that the Tracker app would still work with a bluetooth one instead of a wired one

Posted by Consumology
Hmmm I have no idea, it should. But then again SE does only have built in GPS or this accessory, I would not be surprised if tracker does not scan for bluetooth ones. If I were you I'd ask in a new post, someone who has a Bluetooth one can try it.
If you only really want to have tracker: the big advantage of the HGE-100 is that it needs no charging, that's why I bought it in the first place.
