@kwabs: What can you tell us about mobile services in Ghana? How many networks, subscribers and how do you guys get the latest phones.

welcome here

i really appreciate your support.
@brix25 well things are going on somehow well, there are four networks here, namely:
Areeba, Tigo, Onetouch, Kasapa... Areeba has the most subscribers. But Kasapa is said to provide the most quality service.. Sadly 3G is not yet in ghana.. and gprs, provided by Areeba and Tigo, is now being grasped by some ghanaians...
on the whole, it's quite good... you can check these sites for more

@kwab I thot MTN bought one of the networks in Ghana? I read something about MTN Ghana recently.

I know at least one Esato regular who lives in Ghana.

Wish y'all the best in Esato.

Hello Ghana!!!
Welcome to Esato!!

Posted by pxthomas
You are welcome

Posted by kwabs2006
wow you guys are really NICE!
@cool yeah MTN bought Areeba, and so Areeba will re-brand under the name MTN...
this isn't the first time, it started as Spacefon. infact i use areeba and i'm not satisfied much with their services. gprs is kinda expensive, and some calls are not very clear.
but i'm just waiting to see what MTN ghana has in store for us..,

let's wait and see

MTN in Nigeria is synonymous with higher tariffs.... except recently when a new CEO came on board. He was shipped from Areeba in Ghana. One Ahmad Farroukh. Strange eh? He came and crashed tariffs here in Nigeria.

Posted by kwabs2006
It seems we've had an exchange of some sort. MTN Nigeria's Ex-Chief Financial Officer is now Areeba Ghana's CEO!
this doesn't sound too good. i just hope GPRS rates do not increase over here!

Honestly, I'm expecting alot from MTN Ghana. Maybe the introduction of 3G? and of course what every Areeba subscriber REALLY wants:
for all calls to go through and stay crystal clear! is that hard to ask?

I'm telling you, if Areeba/MTN does not step up their game by next year, I'M GONNA SWITCH! (and i mean that!!!)

@cool are you an MTN subscriber?

@cool are you an MTN subscriber?

Kwabs let me tell you one secret in nigeria. There is no active gsm user that is subscribed to one network only. There are genuine reasons for this. The first is reliability. You can be without service for 24hrs. 2nd reason is the cost effectiveness. You would want to minimise cost as much as possible. 3rd reason is gprs service.4th is packages.
I have 3 mtn, 1 glo and 1 celtel. I am sure coola is using similar numbers too.

Posted by kwabs2006
aah, i see... interesting. some ghanaians do that.
i'm not one of them, i'll stick to MTN ghana for now...

note: areeba's having problems with browsin of sites....

Posted by coolapostle
Can u give us the subscriber figures of the GSM networks in Ghana?

Posted by brix25
Yeah, we'd love to have some more information on Ghana's mobile telecoms sector...who knows, I might just open up my own network there one day.

Posted by kwabs2006
Hope this thread isn't dead yet!
where are all my Ghanaians at? huh?

Posted by brix25
@kwabs: You should try and publicise it on other forums. I remember when the SA thread only had three people posting regularly. Eventually people found the thread through Google when searching for info.

Posted by kwabs2006
thanx, i'll try that.

Posted by kwabs2006
oh boy ghana! not even a single person viewed this thread?

Posted by kwabs2006
Areeba finally rebrands to MTN

I hae got to commend MTN Ghana for the spectular show they put up to rebrand from "Areeba". And the publicisation was pretty great, they practically covered all the TV stations.
They've really got me intrigued this time with their new segmented tariffs,
XtraConnect, XtraCool, XtraSpecial and VIP.
I believe they have a lot in store for the Ghanaia citizenry.
Kudos MTN Ghana, I'm expecting a lot more from you.

yo boy kwabena u've been waiting a long time sorry. i'm jojo from tema mtn sucks join onetouch amazing gprs(though it hasnt been stable for awhile ).wanted to holla at u reply and i give u a reward for waiting this long for some ghanaians friends.free browsing on onetouch. totally free though a bit unreliable.

Posted by brix25
Yippee! There's another Ghanian on the thread! What are your thoughts on the ACN? I just hope SA does well.

Posted by jojomojo
not really into football. but i hope sa does better than last year. mtn is in sa , right? In ghana it is the most patronised bcos it came 1st. how about in sa and dont you have any "shortcuts" in their service

Posted by baerood
hi, am from ghana. my interes is in modding motorola phones

Posted by acquahdd
i have been visiting this site for the past 4 yrs am in Ghana. and from nowhere you guys just puff up with this fuzz about MTN,which happens to be the worst in terms of service in Ghana. by the way am posting this on ma k750 cell using the best network in Ghana(TIGO).

Posted by kwabs2006
ok Ghana!! LET'S GET IT STARTED IN HERE!!!

hey y'all the fact that u dont like MTN doesn't mean others dont ayt...

ok so im waiting glo and celtel to enter the picture.....
i wonder how its gonna be like... 6 mobile networks in Ghana!!!
then i'll have 5 numbers for sure (never liked kasapa u know)

anyway i'm glad we're reviving this thread.... but i wont be around all the time so pls keep the thread going... thx

p.s. my name's not kwabena, im kwame..... kwabs stands for something else

Posted by acquahdd
from what do you post ur blog? (phone or pc) if u're on a pc,then get ur self a tiGO chip. this thread can't heat up with this sluggish updates.at the moment am posting this blog whilst enjoyin my three balls of banku with okro soup in the comfort of a nice eating place in kaneshie.

Posted by gordonowusu
Good to see am anot alone on Esato. Good steep guys.

Posted by acquahdd
gordon, honestly, leave numbers out, what's the best network in Ghana.

Posted by acquahdd
helloooooo!!!,is anybody home?

Posted by acquahdd
hey guys less i forget, am loaded with free games, applications wapsites and anything about phones am quite in those fields.

Posted by kwabs2006
Onetouch's good, Tigo's better but MTN's the best....

MTN has the most products & value added services
even though network quallityis a bit on the down side....

anyone disagree??

Posted by acquahdd
what products?,don't mak me laugh. caller-back tones, stable gprs free night calls, flat call rates to all nets
etc. who does it better than tiGO? and hey, won't u be happy if mtn or ... could offer u unlimited (day and night) network calls? tiGO says express yourself, all ma frds are on tiGO and i choose to call anytime, anyhow and how long i like with just 1 GHC so it's true.
mtn says, everywhere u go, and even in the capital, call service is poor.

Posted by acquahdd
M=most
T=troublesome
N=network
any objections ?

Posted by kwabs2006
Whatever. 2 me mtn's da best

Posted by acquahdd
glad u accept the true fact and keeping ur pro-mtn hoolabalu to urself. bring up another topic,so we can deliberate about.

Posted by kwabs2006
Hey my Ghanaian esatonians!

so sad because i'm leaving u for the next three mnths
