Torch is a java app. for the k800/k790 and works by activating the red/orange led next to the flash.

Posted by mcrosser
have you tried it? how good is it and is the red led quite strong?

Posted by mrianwatson
Yes.

It's OK.

Yes.

I'm gonna try it.

No, you can use the red torch only. No reaction, when opening the camera shield.

Posted by mcrosser
and if you minimize the aplication and then use camera ... does it still not work ?

Posted by Matteus
Cannot minimize the torch. Only exit on the screen.

This message was posted from a WAP device

How about when you hold down back? doesn't it come up with a choice if you want to minimize it or exit?

Posted by senninha
i ran the torch app then used the Activity Menu to get back to the standby screen but when i tried to launch the camera app, the phone said that there was an app running which had to be shut down first then try restarting the camera. no luck there then...

regarding the "light" app... is there anyone out there clever enough and with enough time on their hands to make some kind of "mood light"? would only have to do the same with keeping the backlights on but make the screen change/fade colours??

Posted by isedeasy
Is it just me or do's the app not actually work? It just makes my screen go white :/

Posted by Sirhackalot
Try reading then mabe you can solve your problem.

Just saw your post and of course why not. You can now download it at torchk800.matlista.se. It's called ShiftingColors

yeah, I know, bad imagination

this app is handy indeed...
just wondering,is there any chance that the red led get damage under this type of usage????
well you know, the led is not made to work this way,is it?

I must say I really don't know. But a led is always a led so there shouldn't be a problem. I myself have been using it frequently sense September 2006 and it still works like a charm

Also, looking at the wast amount of downloads since released; with no complaints in any of the different forums linking to Torch. And the fact that using Torch is practically the same thing as taking pictures. I would say it's perfectly safe to use.

Posted by decay_zeit
Uh,thanks alot...
I was woried since got lot damage from stuff like this...
Alright then,im gonna use the led as a torch 24 a day:-D

I downloaded this App on my 1st K800i, the dedicated shutter button stopped working as soon as the app was installed, then 2 months later the phone died. I've not re-installed this feature on any subsiquent K800i I've had. (3 of them)

uh,sometimes problems are not so hard to be realized i think....just bad luck with you it seems buddy.for me it worked with no crash, anyway thank you GREAT for sharing your experience...

the app in the supplied link is a java app already, aint it???

Posted by aatuif
Well. i thought it was a .sis one, since most are. Will it work on ordinary java phones, i mean the cheaper ones...

Posted by ukcuf
How bright is it compared to the K750i torch?

i'm afraid it works on other phones, coz this app is written to light RED AF LED on k800...programing details are related to a certain software of k800.should be

@ukcuf
no not as bright as k750's or other ordinary leds, that's red and not that powerful(but better than lcd and keypad lights),remember it is just a led to help the phone autofocus in close distance under poor light conditions and is not produced to light up the whole room.

would the red led overheat, similar to how the xenon would overheat if used for extended periods of time?

that's what i was woring about, having red led damaged...posted here and people answered, then i don't think there would be a problem,it seems that it is just a led like many others.it completely differs from xenon structure, the charging diod would certainly overheat and break under unusual usage

Posted by aatuif
Yes that's correct. Over and unusual use would cut short, the leds lifespan, not a good thing to replace... prematurely...

Posted by HiHelloAhhh
its still a LED though, and LEds got tens of thousands of usage time
should work as long as any k750i LED torch...just not as bright. but u get a unique red torch! how many other phones got that?

Posted by ashyak36
aint ther a program to use the white light insted of then red light?

still using it for a purpose, other than what is designed for, would be detrimental to it, for sure...

Could this be done for w810/w800/k750 also?

In actual fact, (Ohhh I sound like a nerd now!) LOL No Really, the white light on a K800i cannot be constant for use as a torch. A very high current has to build up within 2 capasitors inside the phone and discharge 1,000's of volt's at low amps across a zeon gas filled glass tube. This produces the very bright flash which cannot be maintained due to charge time and battery power supply.

nice info buddy,thanks

it's just the same with usual camera xenon flash....

in a decade ago, before digicam was made to public,
the old mechanical camera need a delay of about 5-10 sec each photo capture because the capacitor is recharging. it's true that it may contain thousand volt cause i've accidentally electrocute by a xenon flash before. wow... its really like being stroke by a 220v electricity socket for a sec.
so i got to agree with him, xenon flash cannot be turned on continuously.
even if it's possible, it would only last for a matter of minutes.
