Letter to SonyEricsson: Suggestions to improve the T68.

List updated Tue Feb 26, 2002

Some of the members of the Esato forum came up with the idea to make a list of features for the T68 they would like to add or change. We have collected most of them from the forum and they are listed below. We are working on a solution where you can add a new suggestion or add a comment to an allready existing suggestion. You will be given the opportunity to sign the letter with your real name and email address. Since we will be using the name and email address from our forum member database you are adviced to update it with your full name.
Some of the topcis listed is not for the T68 only, but could easily be applied to other phone models as well.

Ericsson have been contacted about this, and they where looking forward to receive the list.

Note: The order of the listed suggestions is not arranged in any particular way.

  • Turn off vibrate function when the phone is in a call. Quite annoying to have the phone vibrate on your ear when you receive an SMS in the middle of a call.
  • Faster T9
  • The possibily to change the cover
  • I would like to see fields for postal adresses in the phonebook.
  • Posibillity to switch off the network id and the clock on the screen (both the screensaver and the small one).
  • An automatic shutdown (you can give a time the phone automatically shuts down).
  • Improvement of the voice command option.
  • Automatic profile change (not only question as is possible now) when a meeting starts/stops in the calendar.
  • Return to main menu or blank screen as an option when pressing the "menu" button in any window...
  • A better (more thorough) users manual that covers all the features of the phone.
  • Possibility to send WAP-links over Bluetooth and IR, not only over SMS.
  • I would like the ability for the T68 to be able to send to and receive e-mails from Japanese mobile phones and PC's. The R380s could receive from a Japanese mobile. Maybe this is because of IMAP4? and I think the T68 doesn't support it.
  • Nobody talks about the dificult thing of watching the mobile at daylight I hope they can fix that, for a phone that expensive this is incredible, hope someday they do a better display that we can change as an option /or with a new software they add a better contrast called "outside" or something alike or so that we can see who is calling as in the streets without the necesity of going into a shop or dark place to send a message/see who is calling.
  • In wireless web browser: Joystick left = back. Joystick right = follow link.
  • Bigger bump on 5 key so it would be easier to feel.
  • Ability to create "folders" for bookmarks for easier access. This would reduce scrolling.
  • When composing email: Option of being prompted to send via SMS service center or SMPT server on send.
  • I think the ability to make a calender entry that has a voice memo attached would be nice - good for reminders that are too complex to write out in normal.
  • Toggle Bluetooth On/Off on menu button (button below the yes)
  • Bluetooth wap access
  • A sync program for PocketPC to Phone
  • Downloadable games
  • Address on contacts. Which would be cool if you could then send this through wap with one button and get back driving directions
  • Display of more details on GPRS connection. Number of UP/Downlinks, Code Scheme in use (let's say : "current speed" stats)
  • More stable overall state when GPRS context/link goes down due to radio ressources conditions (PBCCH handling? (I know this would for March release))
  • The option to have the call work on both the phone and the bluetooth (or hand free) for confrence calls
  • Want it to ask if I want a sent SMS's to be saved in sent folder, not just putting it there automatically.
  • Want it to ask if I want to place an unsent message in the unsent folder
  • Wouldn't the ability to change the screen saver in the T68 be a good feature? Everything else is customisable but why not the clock thing that appears?
  • "Low-level" backlight available as an option for stand-by mode, so I don't have to remove the keylock every time I want to see if I have any new emails or messages, or just want to see the time (the screen is extremely hard to read in any sort of lighting without the backlight)
  • Ability to select a phone number instead of just a contact when selecting personal rings
  • Ability to use wildcards (*, ?) in the above mentioned number (so I could have all the calls coming from the office have the same ring signal without having to enter all the employees' personal numbers)
  • Ability to select if I want my Inbox- and Unsent- folders to autodelete the oldest message upon getting full (like the T28 did), instead of having to manually delete all messages every now and then (like the T39 and T68 now)
  • Ability to set the "screen saver" timeout on the autolock and automatic light modes
  • A "status" for the sent SMS a little more complete. Like with my very nice old Siemens S35i, with the date and time and especially to which person was the SMS sent... (because if you’ve sent a lot of SMS... today it’s pretty hard to know which one was received or not...)
  • Edit and add entries to sim memory directly
  • The option to delete the Missed Calls (like in the SMS folders)
  • Make the green diode to keep blinking in double speed whenever there is a missed call or sms waiting. It stops after a few seconds. It did continue blinking on my S868
  • Add the option to select one ringtone or melody to be played when you get a SMS or Mail, in my office we have about 4 ericsson phones and no body know when your phone gets SMS because all the phones have the same tone.
  • And one more thing... I havent found any universal way to scroll a page. On S868 it was on 1 & 3. It is possible to scroll sms pages with * & #. But not WAP pages. And it was better at 1 & 3 than * & #.
  • There should be an option that would enable you to scroll text messages: 1. four rows at a time (to view Nokia graphics). 2. one row at a time (the only existing capability right now)
  • Add the Number icon (Home,Office, Mobile) to the Call List on the side of each Name in the list so you could know wich phone you dialed that time
  • A "light on button" while in keylock mode
  • New Voice Mail, SMS & E-Mail alerts to repeated every 30 minutes until acknowledged.
  • Possibility to extract numbers from the sms message body and save them on a contact in the phone book. All the numbers in the sms message body should be listed up when using the function so that you could choose the number you want.
  • The ability to schedule when the phone checks for emails, instead of the fixed 5 mins, 30 mins or 60 mins. Eg the phone will only check for emails between 18:00 and 6:00am as the rest of the time I have access to my mail account.
  • When the phone is in bluetooth automatic mode, I'd like to be able to use my HBH-10 (with voice reco) without having to change the mode to ON
  • An option to turn the phone off at night (shedule tasks)
  • Ability to copy a specific contact entry to the SIM (right now you can copy ALL or nothing)
  • Faster UI response time (i hate that pop-up window delay! good thing i can press the no key to make it disappear ASAP)
  • I would love to be able to delete the e-mail from the phone without deleting it on the e-mail server. I would be happy if the new mail symbol showed up when it was suposed to. I would like to be able to read more than 16 mails and it would me nice if the inbox "email counter" showed numbers close to reality.
  • In the present phone leds only irritate.I would like to have 1) A possibility to turn them of 2) Different color or rythm when a message has arrived or a call is not answered.
  • When you go to calendar (stating that the day is not syncronized). There should be an option to turn them off.
  • Make shortcut is a real shortcut. E.g. enable add shortcuts to the option key (I mean on the stand by screen, when you press the key under YES). OR, when you press the joystick down (arrow down) go to phonebook. Press it up directly go to shortcut menu.
  • Automatic changing Profiles. That means once you set this function on. It will automatic change to Office Profile @09:00 (or between 09:00 to 17:00, after 17:00 automaticly changes to Normal Profile). Of cause the time can be set by youself.
  • Currency converter
  • In the call list, Add 'Save number' when pressing option button
  • Password protected keylock. i.e. when the keypad locked, you need a password to unlock it
  • T9 with more than 60 characters in spanish, frensh, italian etc.
  • The option not to receive calls from a certain list of numbers.
  • Copy & Paste function
  • View all details of person without EDIT
  • Add 'birthday' option in Calendar appointment.
  • Software sync for Macintosh
  • Keylock as profile setting
  • The LCD screen to be able to adjust the brightness just like a laptop... to save battery
  • A button for faster acceptance of a letter when writing SMS. EG. if you wanna write 'aa', you just press that button for accepting the first A instead of waiting forever before you press the next A.
  • Make it possible to reset automatically counters (data, sms, talk minutes) on a fixed date (ex. my billing date) to make it easier for people to control their bills.
  • In "Missed calls": display the times that people called us
  • Can we have the no of characters in the first name and surname (phonebook) increased
  • Put "send sms to..." in the options menu in contacts (find a name in the phonebook, press the option key and choose send sms to...)
  • Faster scrolling of page when wapping, it is too slow, especially with many links on the page. When holding the joystick continously "down" or "up", page-by-page scrolling would be nice
  • I don't want to have to press "go to bookmark" when I select my WAP-bookmarks. Skip the last menu and directly load the bookmark. The other menu options can be added to the menu-button when in the bookmark list or to a separate menu item for bookmark editing when in the bookmark menu.
  • Being able to go through menus whilst listening to MP3/radio would be nice
