Press release:

Sony Ericsson’s new K770 Cyber-shot™ phone, announced today, is a digital camera, a photo album and an elegant phone all in-one. Still a phone first and foremost, it allows you to send and share your photos as soon as you’ve taken them.
At just 14.5mm slim and finished in a fashionable Truffle Brown, the K770 can take pictures as good as a standalone digital camera; pictures can be printed up to A4 size. The camera can also be used for video and comes with a powerful photo light for indoor photo-taking and filming. As with all Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot™ phones, 'ease of use' sits at the heart of the experience. To take a picture, just slide open the lens cover, find your subject and shoot.

"The best moments in life always seem to happen when you don't have a camera," says Helene Barnekow, Head of Central Marketing at Sony Ericsson. "If you like the idea of having a snapshot camera on your phone, and want shots that look good in your family album, then the K770 is perfect." Barnekow continues, “The real beauty of the K770 is that you can let your friends and family share your experiences. Once you’ve captured the moment, it's easy to print the picture or upload it immediately to your personal on-line gallery."

Great results
Capturing the perfect picture is easy with the K770 Cyber-shot™ phone. Just slide open the lens cover and you’re ready. Once in camera mode the 1.9inch screen becomes the viewfinder, the Cyber-shot™ based menu becomes visible and you’ll also see eight lit icons appear across the phones keypad. These serve as 1-click shortcuts to each of the camera’s key functions, such as picture size and photo light.

If you take a spontaneous snapshot and the light conditions are poor, simply select Photo fix for PC-free photo editing on your phone.

Shared instantly
The most direct way to share your photos is perhaps through a slide show on the K770's screen. When you want to show them to people that are not around, though, you can post your pictures to your own 'blogsite' or on-line gallery. Share the web site address to share your photos.

If you want to transfer photos swiftly from the K770 Cyber-shot™ phone to your PC or laptop, then simply use the USB Cable provided in-box to drag and drop them from one to the other. Alternatively, if you prefer to print your pictures, the 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus delivers picture quality that is good enough to print your photo out at upto A4 size (297mm x 210 mm). You can even connect your K770 direct to a printer using PictBridge™ for PC-free printing.

Expect more
The K770 is about much more than just camera features. Supporting Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™), the K770 comes with a 256 MB memory card that lets you store up to 200 photos of the best quality. Peruse your photo album whilst listening to your favourite music tracks on the in-built media player. Or tune in to the FM radio with RDS that seeks out clear reception when you’re on-the-move.

With all of this music at your fingertips, it’s worth investing in a Stereo Bluetooth Headset that will stream music wirelessly from your phone and let you enjoy your favourite songs hands-free. The Stereo Bluetooth™ Headset HBH-DS200 can be auto-paired with the K770 and offers up to 6 hours of talktime or music listening time.

The K770 Cyber-shot™ phone is all about understated style. It’s a discreet, grown-up looking phone that slips neatly into your pocket or bag. Yet when you need it there is a digital camera on-board that can give results as good as you expect from a digital camera.

The K770 is a GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and UMTS 2100 phone that will be available in Truffle Brown in selected markets from autumn 2007.

Sony Ericsson is available in selected markets from quarter 4 2007

It looks a very nice phone, I currently have the K800i and kinda miss the LED lighting the K750i has as photo's can be taken in the dark close up without the over-exposure that a zeon flash creates.

Manfran, the answer to your question is simple. the K800/810 is SE's flagship Cybershot so is rather expensive. the K850 is it's obvious replacement and is a major step forward in terms of photography, and as such, will still be one of the most expensive handsets. those with less money that want a Cybershot phone will now be able to afford one with the K770. you may say that it's just an older phone with a few changes but that's what makes it affordable. if 90% of the phone is already in production, the development cost are much lower, thus producing a more affordable handset. the K770 and T650 are a good way for SE to use up parts from redundant K6** models and cams from the production of the K800/810. basically, when a new design with new inovations is developed, older inovations are passed down to create a good phone for the budget market. it's the same for PC parts from laptop manufacturers.

seems like they had so much fun with the T650 body that they felt they needed to make another phone with same body but different shell and branding... good phone nonetheless...
On 18 Aug 05:33 manfran wrote
nice design but I think its a step or two backwards for SE. Why do they have to do this when they have already released the k800,k810 and bringing out the k850? I dont see the point, really. Why not focus on innovations rather than repeating the same stuff and redressing an old phone? Enlighten me guys.

in these phones you should also make arrangements for PDA readers too to run

Great design. For those who complain about K800/810 joystick then it is the phone for you. Too bad they need to differentiate to higher spec K810 and put only 16MB. If only it come with 64MB then I might be tempted to 'downgrade' from my K800. Anyway I just service my K800 joystick under warranty so my phone should be Ok for a while.

DUH, ALL mobile phone manufacturers use the same software for thier phones. they might make slight changes the the basic UI is exactly the same with any company. what matters is the features, not the software/UI. the K770 may be similar to the K6** range but none of those are CyberShot branded and certainly dont sport a 3MP cam. again, this is just a budget handset aimed at the lower end of the market for customers wanting a better quallity cam. in terms of quallity, the K770's cam should be (at the very least) as good as any off the top end, more expensive 3MP offering by Nokia (N80, N73 etc) and therefor has to be an attractive buy for anyone on a budget.
On 15 Aug 10:38 DUH wrote
another brick from SE. SE is really copying nokia, they are now putting out more phone models that are basically the same like in software and they just slap on a different name.

A lot of stupid & naive people (SE fanatics) are gobbling them up.

I find many of you stupid and naive. Thank god some of you aren't on the product development team of the top mobile phone companies. Ahem... ahem... Flip.... Honestly, there is a reason why companies release certain products. In this case, they are trying to expand their markets. Like what Gerry said, this product is to reach the low-end consumers... or lower end... Sony Ericsson is trying to increase its sales in this market. And I believe they are doing the right thing. And this phone also appeals to females, also boosting and increasing sales and popularity in Phone companies. Whether you are a Nokia fan or a Samsung fan or a Motorola fan, just don't diss other offerings from different phone companies without knowing what your talking about.

this phone is simply a budget CyberShot targeted at the Pay-as-you-go market where affordability matters. i can't believe people are over reacting and assuming that this is a replacement for the K810i. if you knew what you were talking about, you'd realise that SE is ready to launch the K850i very soon, with a 5MP cam. this is the true replacement for the K800/810i, so please do your homework. the first post here by 'Flip' just makes him look like an idiot. he's clearly a Nokia fan trying to make SE look bad. the joke's on you, Flip... you're a Nokia fan after all. LOL :D

maybe, just maybe someone will buy this "over" the k800 coz the price is somewhat lower ??? Maybe. just maybe someone has other priorities than you ?? just a thought

don't know why everybody jumps at this announcement and shuns this phone. It looks quite nice IMO and as mapp wisely says : there are people who don't need all the functions you find on high-end phones, for usability or financial reasons.

I find the lens cover quite nice, much more creative (and unobtrusive) solution than the K800/810. And the thickness is a big plus, too. Might be my choice when my K750i meets its doom (hopefully not anytime soon though!)

Do you think, that the flash (light) will be stronger than in the k550.

The flash on k750 was very good and strong, but on the k550 it was no good!

How about the flash on k770?

anyone?
On 14 Aug 15:41 mapp wrote
before over reacting, please notice the phone series. it's a K7xx, so it's not gonna have more features than the K8xx..

funny how you people always demanding super high end mobile phones while obviously there are people who needs only mid range mobile phones (because of financial reason for instance).

and it's a good thing that vendors listen to this market group's needs!

actually, if i notice... this one look like T650 in terms of spec...

but now there's another series of K that has brown color beside K800.
not impressive...

but it's in the mid end section.and price is competitive to K800 and K810.
(can be estimated). so i think its not worth it...

Erm... Flip,

Have you actually seen the pictures? One of them CLEARLY depicts flash functionality, so before you jump off your high horse and roll around on the floor, be sure to check that what you are saying isn't a load of ****.

Plus it is much slimmer and lighter than the K800/K810.

16mb internal memory compared to 64mb in k800i? why does SE bring out perfect*almost* phones like k800i, s700i, an w900i and produce inferior predecessors? i don't get it.

LMAO - What a joke SE is!!! A CYBERSHOT without a xenon flash? 1.9 inch screen??!! lolz ... It's a K810 but brown in color. great innovation SE, you have packaged year old specs in a new uglier shell, YET AGAIN!

Wake up Nokia or SE will take the lead with their new highend innovative handsets. ROFL

Why would anyone buy this over the K800 or K810 is beyond me!!!
