Technical details:
Another lawsuit this week. HTC is suing Apple using 9 new patents bought from Google last week.

HTC vs Apple lawsuit

It's not easy to keep track of who's suing who in the mobile industry these days. Several infographics has been created to see which company are the target of the latest lawsuits. We are not even trying to keep track on these lines or make a chart our self. But Reuters has made one of those infographics and they call it the graphic of the day. Things are happening so fast these days that the lines must be updated weekly to be correct.

HTC bought 9 patents from Google last week and they are using these to file a complaint against Apple at the International Trad Commission in the U.S. Mac, iPhone, iPod, iPad, iCloud and iTunes are services HTC claims are infringing their patents for a way to upgrade software wirelessly. Another patent infringed is a method to store user preferences.

If this war of patents are escalating further, the remaining mobile phone manufactures will in 10 years from now not be the companies making the best products, but the company with with the largest patent portfolio.

It is not going to be easy for new companies to enter the mobile phone business. From every piece of hardware inside a modern mobile phone to the size of the navigation icons are patented. A new company not having a patent portfolio will have to pay for the usage of each patents.

This is so tiring! It has become so out of hand thanks to a large part to Apple.
When I think back then there weren't so many lawsuits and they never really became so intense.

Nice one HTC hope they win and bring Apple crashing down its time someone made Apple wake up and realise that they don't own the Technology market and since Google now owns most of the Patents to Motorola they should joint sue Apple along with Samsung and HTC.
I'm really losing respect for Apple fast!

These lawsuits must be costing Apple a fortune. It is tiring and the thing that got me recently was the story of Apple blocking sales of Samsung Galaxy Tab in Australia. What gives them the right to do this?? And they say they need to prove to the courts that the sales of the Samsung Tab affected their sales. Duh,hello Apple it's called COMPETETION!!

Well that's the price for being a patent troll (patenting ideas like scrolling through pictures and then suing other companies) serves them right. Hope they will loose this

US agency says Apple did not violate HTC patents (BBC article)
A US agency has ruled that Apple did not violate graphic patents owned by S3 Graphics, a unit of Taiwan's HTC.
S3, which makes image compression technology, filed a complaint with trade agency, ITC, in May 2010.
The company accused Apple of infringing four patents, which it said were used widely in a range of Apple products.

I love this thread, it's hilarious!
Original post:
HTC have bought some patents from Google specifically for the purposes of suing Apple for infringement.
Everyone else's response:
Damn Apple for these lawsuits! They're patent trolls! They'll do everyone out of business! Why don't Apple just innovate! Etc etc ad infinitum..

Business is business.
I can't be bothered who the hell sues who,
as long as every 2 years there is a killer phone available for me to upgrade to from any one of the phone manufacturers.
