i thought i might throw in this little piece by george carlin:

The planet is fine. The people are f**ked. This planet has been here for four and a half million years, we’ve been here for maybe, 150,000. The industrial revolution for what, 2-300 years. And we have the colossal arrogance to assume that we are going to have an effect on this planet that’s negative? Global warming included. The planet will take care of itself...

...This planet has put up with much worse than us. It’s been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, solar flares, sunspots, magnetic storms, pole reversals, planetary floods, worldwide fires, tidal waves, wind and water erosion, ice ages and hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets, asteroids, and meteors. You think a few plastic bags and aluminum cans are going to make a difference?

The planet isn’t going anywhere, folks, we are! We’re going away. Pack your shit – we won’t leave much of a trace. Thank God for that. Nothing left. Maybe just a little Styrofoam. The planet will be here, and we’ll be gone. Another failed mutation; another closed-end biological mistake.

The planet will shake us off like a bad case of fleas. And it will heal itself, because that what it does; it’s a self-correcting system. The air and water and earth will recover and be renewed. And if plastic isn’t really degradable, most likely the planet will incorporate it into a new paradigm: The Earth Plus Plastic.

The Earth doesn’t have a particular prejudice against plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. Perhaps she sees it as one of her many children. It could be the reason the Earth allowed us to be spawned here in the first place. She wanted plastic, but didn’t know how to get it!

Philosophers say, "Why are we here?" The planet says, "Plastic, asshole!"

India and pak rocked by a earthquake of 7.4 magnitude. Many people dead in pak. Many buried under collapsed buildings.

This may not be the end of the world but it is a very very sad event. Today's quake in pakistan and india has killed over a 1000 people in pakistan alone. The images are very sad and very disturbing indeed. My prayers for the departed. God have mercy on us.

We need to make sure that our lives are in order with God, Then it wont matter so much as to what happens to the world, but rather what happens to your soul when you leave this world! Remember these few words... Without Christ our lives are in Crisis! Without peace our lives will be in Pieces!

I dont see how religion comes into all this. Today out of the thousands that died, there were certainly quite a few who lived their life by the word of God. Yet, when nature strikes she does not spare anyone just because he or she says his or her prayers. We are getting a payback from mother nature for all the miseries that we have brought unto her.

tell me do any of those things have the power of thought....our problem is we know what we are doing to this planet and yet we still continue to do it...there are so many people out there that want to do something to better our situation but they are too busy in their little comfort zone to do anything about it....thats our problem is we want to help the environment and such but dont want to change our way of life.....most peoples philosphy is "someone else'll do it"

Imho the worst thing to happen to this planet is human beings. There's pretty strong evidence to suggest a lot of natural disasters in recent years are caused, or at least made worse by us e.g. global warming

Though we can change this though, or at least limit the damage before it's too late.

It is a viscious cycle. We do not have anyway out of it. In the name of science and evolution man has brought woe upon himslef and all of this world. Yet, today, each and every second of our lives we are totally dependent on science itself. There is only one way out :- THE END OF THE WORLD.
