Has anyone tried emailing Sandisk to ask them ?

They'd probably lie if you could use that extra space though, and say no you could not.

Sorry to those that think this is stupid but hard drive manufacturers have been doing this for years.

It is cheaper for them to mass produce a 160Gb hard drive (2x 80gb platters) and then reduce the size of the drive to 120gb by software/hardware means than it is say to produce a 2x60gb platter drive and a 2x80gb platter drive.

It is entirely possible that the san disk cards are hardware or software reduced to 512mb.

Of course the other 512mb may not work and it is a failed 1gb card that cant be used at full capacity, but then again it may not.

In this day and age mass production is key to low prices, and i think its cheaper for them to do it the above way than different size drives/disks.

Still, you take your chance as to whether the extra portion on the card/drive is functional or not.

Although the arguments like companies crippling their products is valid and sounds good but I would say this really is some bug in reporting by card or the way windows retrieve this information from memory sticks.

Proof? well take a look at the attached picture. This is my 256MB Sandisk Memory Stick PRO Duo. Now no one would possibly be thinking that its a 4GB card crippled to 256MB

I just got a Sandisk 512 card, and I was looking around to see if anyone else had noticed.
I haven't dared to allocate the space yet, but I might try and hand back the card if I f**k it up

I've tried connecting the phone to a Xandros 3.0 linux computer but I can't find any disk manager in it.

i have a 256 stick and it also shows it has 235 meg or unallocated space and 236 meg in use. has anyone found away to unlock the space. From what i can gather due to a little research is that as stated previously they just produce 1 chip such as the 512 and use software to partition it as it is cheaper than actually using plants to manuf different chip sizes. It makes perfect business sense and it would also seem that the k750i can see through this little hidden section and if possible with the right software could free up the space.. there are some people discussing this on another forum i am regestered on ill keep you posted ehre with any new info.. keep trying

I just tried to repartition my card. It does show 936MB of space and it is formatted as such. HOWEVER!!! It automatically says that 469MB is used, leaving with 467 available only. So... I have no idea what's taking up that space or why... anyone else have any luck?
