for those who are suffering from branded Vodafone or other SP craps..

u can debrand your phone by flashing the orginal firmware in it.

and actually, there were some big firmware bugs reported on firmware R1A (phone freeze at the choosing language menu) which u are better to do a firmware upgrade (latest firmware is R1L already)

anyway, lots of posts in this forum about it

How do you update the firmware in the SE K750i then?

I got this response back from SE Customer Support after asking if I can have the original firmware to get my phone functionality back....

"Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.

With regards to your enquiry, unfortunately we cannot assist in the removal of network customisation, it is a note a service offered by Sony Ericsson. The online update does not affect network customisation.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support."

quite liked the idea of users being able to upgrade their SW direct over USB via the SE website...Checked it out with my Silver K750i (which apart from dull menus isn't all that bad) - no joy. Response from Vodafone:

Quote:
I am afraid this service will not work for phones purchased from Vodafone and has Vodafone Live branding.

The latest software is below, if and when updates are available you will need to take the phone into a Vodafone store for it to be despatched for the phone to be updated.

R1A044 Generic Model
R1C004 Vodafone Live!branded

I apologise that the firmware cannot be upgraded via the manufacturers website as a decision has been taken by our device strategy department to authorise all updates for our phones via our repair centre's.

If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I'll be debranding/upgrading as soon as possible.

i posted this in a topic but i was told to post it here, hope its useful

As I was unaware of this when deciding my new phone. i think everything should have a read incase they didnt know, sorry if this has been already been posted

The good news is that the new SonyEricsson 2 mega pixel handset is available on Vodafone UK. The bad news is that it is heavily Vodafone Live! branded and has limited functionality compared to a standard SE handset.

1. Vodafone has disabled MP3 ring tones.
2. The user interface is different from the SE original. Buttons have been reassigned, menu icons are Vodafone versions (uglier) and have different positions.
3. Vodafone logo on bottom of phone, Vodafone button above joystick.
4. This "special" edition handset is in silver (brushed metal) unlike the standard black.
5. Vodafone Live! is accessible from at least 5 different points (buttons and menu options).

Orange has also branded the K750i. While the branding is not as heavy as the Vodafone one, the icons have been replaced with low quality version.

O2 is currently the least branded k750i, unless you get a SIM free version.

Some of these issues can be remedied. To be able to play MP3 tones, MP3s can be altered with the SonyEricsson DRM (digital rights management) packager. The packager will add the digital rights in a quick step (less then 5 seconds/ song). The files will get the dm file extension and can be used on the Vodafone Live! branded K750i as ringtones.

Getting very frustrated with vodaphone now. They dont have them in stock? then why does everyone else have them? This is just a delaying strategy to get most of the people who buy the phone on the buzz factor into their branded handsets.

I am 2 months from the end of my contract, only vodaphone direct can upgrade me this length from the end.. Phones4U can upgrade me in a month, and they can give me an unbranded one, so why wont vodaphone?

Phones4U also offered to give me £50 to pay for the last two months on my contract and to put me on a different network with an unbranded handset straight away, only annoying thing is as its nowhere near the end of my contract i wont be able to port my number.

Sucks!

Just got my branded Voda upgrade K750i. Wasn't going to at first, but they offered me a free upgrade on a bargain contract, so I couldn't say no. So far, the video quality isn't as bad as I thought it would be on this firmware R1L002

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I thought people might be interested.

I upgraded on my Voda contract, and was sent a silver phone. After many complaints (long story, don't ask), they sent me a black replacement. Excellent news, one would have thought.

However, it appears that, although the phone is unbranded (shortcut button works fine, non-DRMed MP3s as ringtones no problem, etc), the phone's CDA number is set to the Voda branding. This means two things:

1. I cannot upgrade my firmware from R1L to R1N at the moment, because SEUS sees my phone as Voda-branded

2. Once SEUS allows Voda upgrades to R1N, if I do that upgrade, my phone will revert to Voda branding! This is appalling.

Has anyone any idea what I should do next? I've emailed Voda, and my sleeves are rolled up for another long fight like last time, but other than paying for a DaVinci change of the CDA, what can I do?

Cheers

tomchadwin...don't worry...the silver branded K750i has a different CDA to the black vodafone K750i.

Ahhhh. OK! Many thanks for that info. Is there a decent CDA list anywhere? The one in the K750i firmware overview thread only lists 102338/68 for Voda, which I assumed was the branded one.

Thanks for the quick reply.
