I believe all of the first phones which are with networks come without branding, if you get what I mean.
I think it's because the networks haven't had chance to alter the firmware with their own branding yet, so they send them out with Sony Ericsson's own firmware.

carphone warehouse upgrades are often unbranded models, especially if you ask them for an unbranded one.

Our current stock of K750i's on Vodafone here at The Link (both new and upgrades) are generic black-colour SonyEricsson models without any branding whatsoever. That will probably change soon when the new silver Vodafone ones come in.

Voda themselves told me they wont have them for at least another couple of weeks. Not waiting that long for one that will probably be munged, so asked for my Pac code and have a new one coming from CPW tomorrow. Was expecting more argument of Voda as a customer of 10 years with a monthly spend of 70 quid, often well over 100 when I am abroad, but they didn't put up a fight!

CPW will always sell the unbranded versions on O2 and Voda (unless a Voda-branded alternative is available). Sometimes, this is also the case on T-Mobile (although it is unlikely with the K750i, as the D750i will be the T-Mobile equivalent, and they won't authorise the K750i to be sold on T-Mobile). On Orange, handsets are almost always Orange-branded stock, although there have been a few notable exceptions recently (Samsung D500, Siemens S65) which may herald the start of a promising new era on Orange where it is possible to have generic, un-ruined firmware as a subsidised handset option.

Also, even if Voda or T-Mobile branded handsets are available, CPW will occasionally sell the generic versions as well, if there are stock shortages of branded variants.

Now that Vodafone have released this online, has anyone got it and got pictures of the branding - is it like they did with the K700i?

Also can use ringtones that are mp3's - what other restrictions are there?

Just interested to know.

I got a silver branded version yesterday. You can't use 'ordinary' mp3 files as ring tones ... I wish they wouldn't do that! It is like my garage speed limiting my car!

@Phantomlynx
You will probably need to use SE's DRM packager tool to give the MP3 files Digital Rights Management.

Vodaphone limited MP3 ringtones on the K700i too - all their firmwares apart from the last couple (R2V & R2AA) didn't allow MP3s to be used at all, even if DRMed.

I hope they have learnt their lesson and at least allowed DRMed MP3s on the K750's R1C004 firmware!

Oh! And let me know if this works! I'll add the info to my K750 Firmware Overview page.

Just got my vodafone branded K750 today. Its a cool phone but vodafone had to spoil it by colouring it grey. Go to vodafone.co.uk to see pic.

Voda have removed all standard sonyericsson stuff. Theres no free games... all trials: Deluxe block breaker, new york nights demo, splinter cell demo. Themes are just ugly vodafone ones, there's only 3 ringtones.

It is possible to play non-DRM MP3's but can't assign them as ringtones.

Haven't tested it yet but its likely to be network locked.

Is it possible to flash this phone to the generic SE firmware using the USB cable? The menus are ok but not great. The activity button is linked to vodafone live! and can't be changed. Overall, i much prefer SE's own software rather than spoint

When will operators learn not to mess with useful features (previously on the K700i it was the "more" menu and now its the activity/shortcut menu) and replace them with duplicated and completely useless features which nobody wants. On the Orange branded K700i there used to be at least three different ways of using the camera function - an two of these were dedicated buttons - one of them being the SE "more" menu.
I personally now have a policy of only buying SIM free - I like my phones the way the designer intended and not what some marketing idiot at an operator thinks I want.

Mine is network locked too, but the SE's DRM packager tool does allow you to use mp3 files as ring tones. NOt only is this an option I think we are entitled to, but necessary as the other ring tones seem very quiet... something of aproblem!
