Hi I am new to this fantastic site and just bought the S700i, I have downloaded a few 30 second clips of music and bluetoothed them across to my mobile, they appear on the mobile and play fine but when I go into Sounds & Ringtones and press 'More' then go into 'Use' the option for 'set as ringtone' isn't highlighted can anyone please let me know if I have missed something or can anyone give some advice as to how I have a 'real tone' as a ring tune.
Cheers |

Well thats whats causing you the problem. Vodafone has put their own software on it with copyright protection, basically means you can only download content bought from Voda. Even if you own the original CD. you cant set them as ringtones. (voda want to make money by selling ringtones.
This is personally enough of a reason never to use vodafone full stop.
There are a few ways to get around this, like flashing unbranded software on it. And there are a few people around on the forum that could help you on that side of things...

Many thanks for this, would it not help by getting the mobile unlocked or is it something that vodafone have put in the phone. Any idea who I can contact to get the unbranded stuff? and thanks again for helping me out |

Yes its the actual software hat vodafone put on their handsets, which can be flashed by some shops, not to sure who, as i have never bought a branded handset.
Hopefully a search for flashing software might bring you results...

pfcsmudger,
You don't need to flash your phone at all. Anyone who tells you that is talking crap.
You need to install Sony Ericssons DRM (Digital Rights Management Software on your pc). Ask around the forum for a copy of this software. Once you've installed it follow these instructions:

...and soon you'll be installing Mp3 as ringtones. I've have just done this on my brothers Voda S700i and it works a treat.
best regards,

Richy, i did say "there are a few ways of getting round this" and quoted one of them, mainly to make the point that Voda's branding holds back people from using there fone to its full potential....
Nice one for the link though...

Hi Richy cheers for the link, I have spent the past 2 hours looking for the DRM package, have signed into the Sony Developer World website but I can only find the PDF file. Have you any idea where I can download the package from?
