Why does this not surprise me? Not only does Vodas menues look crapy, they have spent more energy on postcards, Live! and what not than they spent on stuff that is actually necessary for the phone to work!

That does it. If I can get my local unbrander to rebrand my V800 if the sh*te doesn't work as a Z800, then I'm going tu unbrand it and, hopefully, live happy ever after.

Strange that I shoudl see this thread today having experienced "No Access to Network" last night and this mornign at home. I had come to the conclusion that the phoen was broken in some way and yet this morning as I walk out fo the hosue and around the corner of the street it jumps back to life?!?

Could this be related in some way to Wifi signals or interference from a home appliance? Even as I say that I know it is false because the phone has been fine at home for the past 2 weeks. I can only assume that they were working on an antenna somewhere yesterday which caused the weakened signal but under those circumstances then surely the phone should have logged onto another network?

As far as wifi is concerned I don't think that is your problem. The SE tech i spoke to said that they had wifi at their office and nobody had any network issues. Then again they say that they haven't heard of the problem at all...

Just to add to the comments I made above. I noticed that the problem has carried over to my office also but only to the extent of dropping calls. I do nto have the Network access error but twice in the past couple of minutes I recieved a call and having started the conversation the other party was cut off even though the phoen indicated recpetion was present. I am also in an area of central london where there most definitely isn't an issue with recpetion. It seems to me to be a switching issue between 3G and the normal network and I have selected GSM only for the time being and will see if that helps.

At my house, I cannot use the phone at all. If I leave and walk about 10m up my front path, then it works fine.

The working V800 that I borrowed interferes with my speakers when I make a call indoors, as you'd expect. My own V800 is silent even when held right next to the speaker whilst making a call....it doesn't seem like it's even trying to dial out. It can see the 2G network and I have 4 bars of service.

I don't have the option to select 3G or GSM, even though I have R1S025 firmware. From what I hear selecting GSM will solve the problem, but the borrowed V800 I have has that menu option and doesn't require me to change it in order to make a call.

Bob, would you mind posting the software information under the 'Customization' heading in the service menu? should be three short lines of info, mine reads:

CDA 102295/7 R20A
cxc 125840 R1S025
EU6_VA

The borrowed (working) V800 has:
CDA 102295/7 R30A
cxc 125840 R1J002
EU6_VA

I upgraded my V800 from R1J to R1S over the weekend.

No problem if you could remind me of the button clicks in order to bring up the Service menu.

It's right, star, left, left, star, left star ( > * < < * < *)

Once in, you need to go to Service Info then Software Info...

I tried updating to see if that would help.

I now have

CDA 102295/7 R30A
cxc 125840 R1S025
EU6_VA

Same issue is still present.

You have the R30a customisation that I thought I needed to resolve the problem. Have emailed SE support a few times, they suggested I call their service centre. I called them and was informed that 'they are not technical' in the call centre, and gave me a number at Sony Ericsson!!

I am against sending the phone away to anyone who doesn't fully understand the problem as I'm sure I will just receive another faulty handset back in return.

I was thinking of using something like SEtool, Davinci or TMS to change the software on my phone. Would welcome any recommendations on which to use, and if it's possible for me to extract the software from my working V800 using any of the above in order to copy it to my own V800.

Can anyone tell me if I need to buy a new cable, or does the stock V800 USB cable do the job?

Thanks,

Given that I have the same software as your working phoen I am nto sure it will help mate. I updated my software via the USB cable and the Update Program.

What is very strange to me is the random element involved. My phoen certainly didn't suffer like this when I first bought it. It is only now about a month later that this problem has manifested itself. I jsut wonder if it is anything to do with something I have installed or a change I ahve made from the default settings. I may try resetting everything and removing my Memory card to defaults to see if it makes any difference.

I just popped my SIM card into my old 6600 (which incidentally never won any prizes for recpetion) and it has full 5 bar reception sitting here. The V800 on the other hand has No Network Access.

This phone unfortuately would seem to have developed a rather terminal but subtle fault. The reception is quite simply useless. I am pretty sure that is a recent occurence or it cold be that I just never noticed when I first picked up the phone.

Certainly this individual phone has diabolical reception and is going back on monday.

Are you taking it back to a Vodafone store? please let us know how you get on.

At the moment I'd be happy just to add the '3G/GSM Networks' option under 'Mobile Networks' to be honest. Having to change it would not be ideal (as the other V800 doesn't require me to), but at least then I wouldn't have to play pass the SIM every time I want to make a phone call.
