Here is the e-mail reply I received from Sony Ericsson :
Dear Consumer,Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Customer Care Center.
SEMC has decided to discontinue the development of the Z700 GSM/GPRS mobile phone, announced this March and was scheduled to be introduced in the 3Q this year.
This is a proactive action to meet the continuously-changing market situation, and we believe the recently-announced new products (T200, T300 and T600) and the P800 multimedia phone as well as the popular T68i will make up a complete and competitive product portfolio for Sony Ericsson.

Indeed... and you could pre-order T36s from them for months after it became clear that Ericsson weren't going to produce it...
