Hey masseur,
Nice to see your post. Had been busy with something else for a long time. Felt nice after looking at your post. Felt like coming home again. |

What is it that P910 has and S100 doesn't?
And does SD-WIFI work on S100? |

You also forgot to mention that windows mobile devices need a lot of ram and processing power just to run a few applications and that's not the case for the p910i which is why it's quite comfortable with it's processor.

how do you no that? do you make phones? did you build the i-mate jam? i guess not. did anyone told you this? maybe you say this coz you can actually see the physical memory being use in the i-mate jam, but in the p900/p910 you cant, so thats why maybe your saying this.

@masseur,
This is interesting indeed. I hope you do one of your reviews of this device sooner or later. Meanwhile a "couple" of questions in case you are feeling communicative:
1) What is the sound quality like, listening to mp3 files on the S100? I use the P910 for this a lot.
|
|
The sound quality was always good when listening to movies or music but was quite tinny when in a phone conversation. The latest firmware update fixed that and now phone calls are pretty good too

2) Even as a P-series afficionado, the P910/outlook sync makes me want to throw the P910 out of the window almost every day. Sounds as though you might also have found this. Is it really that good with the S100?
|
|
I've been using pocketpc for years and always found activesync to do a great job synching outlook from the pc to the pocketpc and visaversa. If I was to compare I would say pocketpc does a 95% satisfactory job whereas P series an 85% satisfactory job

3) How do you cope with the slow-down of not having the qwerty keyboard and going back to the stylus? I reckon I can keep up with most blackberry users on my P910.
|
|
My idea of a device like this is that it should be handy and useful without being obtrusive. Devices with full keyboards tend to be larger than I prefer so I choose not to buy those however blackberry have done a good job in this area. so I am used to using virtual keyboards and can be quite fast. Actually lately I have been using SPB full screen keyboard (SPB make some great software)

4) Do you know if there's a BlackBerry client for the S100? Have you tried it?
|
|
I haven't heard of blackberry for and windows mobile phone devices and wouldn't use it if there were

5) Ever run out of working memory?
|
|
never. I am currently using a 2GB SD card and store most stuff there

6) How's the wi-fi?
|
|
for wifi I am using the sandisk wifi card and the driver they supply gives it the same feel that you get setting up wifi on windows and is mostly fairly automatic. its also supports wep and other encryption standards. you can also get sandisk wifi cards with memory on board which might be useful as there is only ne slot

7) More importantly (for me), how's the bluetooth? Does it work properly with a BT headset (STILL not right on the P910)?
|
|
I've had no problem using mb HBH-600 and now HBH-660

Hmmm no phone keypad for SMS?

yeah there is a special entry method (apart from full keyboard, block recogniser, letter recogniser and transcriber) called phone pad which gives you the following

I have gone from my P905 to an MDA Compact (the generic phone we are talking about here). The only reason I have definately gone to the dark side, well two, is the synching and freely available low cost or more often free software.
I think the P905 was a better phone, I do miss the keypad but only for dialling numbers. The MDA comes with voice recognition anyway. The MDA is just a better all rounder.
Oh, and wifi is the biz! |

speaking of voince recognition, I'm using Microsoft Voice Command. It requires no training and out of the box works for anyone. It can call numbers in the phone book or you can speak a number to call. it also knows all your music and you can give a track name and it starts playing, or mention an album or artist name and it lists the tracks for you to choose from. A quick command will give you te time or date or battery level etc etc
its great software IMHO, especially when you don't have that frustration of training it

@masseur thanks for the long reply... appreciated.
I would rate the P910i sync with outlook at more like 65% than 85%; it does not seem to support reminders (which get converted to zero-length appointments) or recurring appointments (often double-up or disappear) and has particular trouble with a recurring appointment with irregular exceptions (e.g. a weekly meeting which is sometimes at a different time). In addition, the version control in the Notes/Jotter is terrible, often causing the newer version to be lost in favour of the older one. And there is no log file.
Apologies for the off-topic rant. |

Just two things I'd like to find out.
1) Does the JAM sync with Lotus Notes? and how is your % rating in this regard.
2) Whats the cost now for a JAM? and how does this compare with the current cost in UK for a p910?
Cheers

I'm fairly sure the JAM doesn't sync with lotus notes. I've just had a check of their support site and there is no mention of it.
brand new, Jams still sell for around £260-£300 whereas P910i sells for around £450. second hand its interesting that the JAM sells for more than the P910. Jams go on ebay for around 270-320 whereas P910s go for 250-300 and on Esato P910's go for even less
