The K700i manual says you can only use some copyright-protected MP3 files specially designed as ringtones. Is there anyway you can create an MP3 file so that the K700i will use it as a ringtone. I have tried and it says 'Cannot use this file'. Are there specific dimensions of the MP3 file that the phone uses?

welcome to esato mate.

is it a vodaphone K700?
vodaphone have decided to restrict the MP3's that you can use. You can only use the ones that you pay fro and download of vodaphone themselves.

pretty annoying.

welcome to Esato

I'll quote you something from the S700 Ringtones thread from a couple of days ago which might be useful

I have read in various places that with Voda Live you can only use ringtones downloaded from them. Based on my experience, this ain't true.

While normal MP3's don't work as ringtones, there is a program called Sony Ericsson DRM Packager which converts them to a perfect working format and I have already made a few ringtones that work.

The software can be found here http://developer.sonyericsson[....]obal/docstools/misc/p_misc.jsp

The other option is to Debrand your phone. Then you can play Normal MP3's

@nleeb68

The DRM packager won't solve your problems. The only option is de-branding. I did it following the lenthy thread on this board, now have full functionallity and no vodacrap branding

@stevehulse, I haven't tried this packager (and don't have a vodafone branded phone) but vlammetje wrote the following in that other thread in response to the post that I quoted, so I am interested why you say this suggestion doesn't work as I don't want to suggest it in another thread if it doesn't work. thanks!

Vodafone has blocked the option for using any non -DRM MP3 as ringtone. The DRM packager from the developper site does a good job though and is a simple and free solution for everybody with vodafone branded phones.

Thanks a lot mate!

Thanks SteveHulse!!!

So how do I go about debranding? Don't suppose it will get rid of the vodafone label on the phone! lol

If he is having the same problem i have got, then you are wrong. The SE software does make it possible to use mp3s on a branded phone. I have got several i did over the weekend on my s700.

Thanks Peter. Is there a simple way of converting the MP3 files? I gave it a go but to no avail!

yeah.

I assume you are running the program. On the basic installed settings, you can drag and drop an MP3 onto the program and encode it. It will create a folder were the MP3 came from and put the encoded file in there.

Tech Support: "What does the screen say now?"
Person: "It says, 'Hit ENTER when ready'."
Tech Support: "Well?"
Person: "How do I know when it's ready?"

I tried the DRM packager with my voda k700 and got nowhere. I tried all the various encoding combinations, but still no luck. maybe firmware version dependant?

I managed to encode an MP3 file and send to the phone. It shows up with the key-locked icon and able to play it but it still won't let me select it as a ringtone. Are there certain restrictions with the size of the file or anything?

@nleeb68

You probably have an old firmware. Se this thread: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=73343
