$950 is around £700! That's an awful lot of money for a P900!

I think it's more like £520/£530...

Stupid.
No, just kidding. I don't know... Those only seem popular with that demographic. I don't know anyone who has one of those. It is a two-way pager... A text-only device.
They're popular with blacks for some reason.

I don't think they're as good as a P900, but they are very popular with business users due to the push email capabilities.
Now that the P910 has that feature the Blackberry is useless as far as I am concerned. There's a new one out with more phone-like features & Bluetooth. That might be kinda cool.

That is correct MissUK we get the cool phones either late or never, however the plans are of better value in US than Europe I think, because of the large amount of ppl and the fact American would not put up with higher prices. My guess.
On the other hand you always can buy an unlocked and unbranded phones from anywhere and use it here in the US. I am using P900 on T-mobile here. Great quality reception and voice clarity.

I was thinking that it might have been a while ago when the exchange rate was lower, but I am still a little bit too high in my estimation even then.

Yeah, service prices are pretty good and I have no complaints. I just wish they would offer better phones.

By the looks of things the U.S. won't have decent 3G mobiles either if the networks are investing in expanding GSM. Would I be right in saying that the U.S. seems to be loosing ground ever more quickly to the rest of the world in terms of mobile technology?

I would say that we're just not as advanced as many European and Asian markets... I hear Australia also has a 3G network.
The technology exists, but American network operators aren't adopting it on a large scale yet. Plus with competing standards, we're far from nation-wide coverage; we've got three major standards running on about six major operators - that just doesn't add up as far as I am concerned.
How is Europe as far as standards? Anything but GSM? We've got GSM, CDMA, TDMA and the newer 3G networks that I'm not too familiar with. Shit! There's also another network running now that I know NOTHING about! (Nextel)

@richy240
Europe uses GSM and the 3G networks appear to be going down the WCDMA route as is NTT DoCoMo in Japan.
