Just got round to sending an SMS message using my K700 and I keep getting the error message 'sending failed, unknown recipient'. I've tried two different numbers from my phone book, and a third just typed in. Same error message each time.

I'm using my Vodafone SIM in my O2 phone until my number is ported over. Voice calls work fine. I've checked my message settings and my Vodafone service centre number is correct. Any ideas what the problem might be? I'm going to try my 02 SIM when I get home tonight.

Cheers swipe,

Yes the + is there. In fact, I haven't changed anything since moving the SIM from my T610 to the K700. The service centre number was already in the SIM, and I had no problems on my T610

Haven't spoken with the operator yet, wanted to try my 02 SIM first. Think it's sorted anyway, as I've just found out that my number has now been ported, so guess that's what the problem was. Looks like I was trying to send SMS messages mid-port. I fully expect (hope) when I put my 02 SIM in the phone, everything will be ok.

Thanks guys,

As expected, my number has ported to my new O2 SIM, and once that was inserted, SMS works fine.

Cheers,

I'm having this problem at the moment. My number has just been ported from Orange to O2. I think that O2s SMSC must be rejecting my number, perhaps it is not registered with it as an O2 number.

The port only happened today, perhaps the DB update will happen overnight?

Occasionally operators have failures for certain periods of time. It's happened to me before i.e. can't send a txt when in full signal. I'm on O2 and when it happened to me a couple of years back.

I just ported from Vodafone to O2 last week, I experienced the same SMS problem, but not to worry, it fixed itself after 4 or 5 hours. I called O2 to ask what was wrong and they said it was a technical issue due to porting my number over, and that normal service should resume within 24 hours.
