In the house!

I bet we'll see this thread flourish when HSDPA from Rogers launches at decent prices!

REJOICE!!!!

HSDPA Official

HSDPA Official
Rogers press released the announcement this morning:

Rogers Debuts HSDPA in Golden Horseshoe

Phase one launch of next-generation voice and data network makes
Canada's only GSM provider the nation's fastest wireless carrier

TORONTO, Nov. 2 /CNW/ - Rogers today announced the launch of High Speed
Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) - its next generation voice and data network -
in the Golden Horseshoe. The debut of HSDPA makes Rogers the fastest wireless
carrier in Canada. It also places the company among the first operators in the
world to deploy this latest evolution of GSM. GSM is the dominant global
standard for mobile wireless communications with over two billion users
worldwide(*).
HSDPA is a 3.5G protocol for mobile data transmission that significantly
improves data transfer rates, enabling network users to download data at
speeds faster than competitive alternatives. Customers within the HSDPA
network coverage area will finally be able to experience wireless Internet
access at broadband speeds.
Access to the Rogers' HSDPA service is through the Sierra Wireless
AirCard(R) 860. This AirCard easily plugs into laptop computers, providing
users with reliable and secure wireless access, and is also compatible with
EDGE/GPRS/GSM networks, so users have access to information anytime, anywhere.
"For mobile workers, HSDPA is the great equalizer," said John Boynton,
SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless. "Whether you're in the
office or on the road will no longer dictate how fast you can access your
data. From now on, wireless subscribers can enjoy high-speed mobile Internet
and multimedia downloads at speeds previously possible only on a wired
connection."
The HSDPA network will be rolled out to the top Canadian markets
throughout 2007 and will include the introduction of HSDPA-enabled phones and
new applications as well as much improved customer experiences on current
leading applications by Rogers Wireless.

Rogers Connection Manager

To help customers seamlessly manage notebook PC data connectivity, Rogers
has launched the Rogers Intelligent Connection Manager. This free new software
application allows customers to manage their network data connection options -
including HSDPA, EDGE, company LANs, designated Wi-Fi hotspots, or cable/DSL -
and easily switch back and forth between available services. This helps
customers optimize their wireless connection experience.

Availability

HSDPA service is now available throughout the Golden Horseshoe region
from Oshawa to Niagara Falls, including the Greater Toronto Area, (Brampton,
Burloak, Etobicoke, Hamilton, Mississauga, North York, Oshawa, Scarborough,
Richmond Hill, Pickering, Newmarket, Markham, St. Catharines, Oakville,
Burlington, Toronto, Niagara Falls).
The Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 on sale at all Rogers Wireless locations
or through www.rogers.com. The Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 will also be
available to Fido customers starting November 24, 2006 on-line at www.Fido.ca.

Pricing:

The Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 is available from Rogers at a special
introductory price of $49.99 with a three year term or $349.99 with a one or
two year term. Existing data price plans apply.
For a limited time, Rogers is offering unlimited email and browsing for
three months on data plans of $60 per month or more.

What no more SE Canadian users anymore??

I guess high data prices just goes to show you that its no longer profitable for providers to do this.

Oh well look like my WiFi WM5 Smartphone or S60 phone will come early.

Are we Canadians this far behind or is this thread completely & clearly useless.

Here's another (new) Canadian!

I just switched from Fido to Rogers, the US roaming rates were just retarded & the "customer service" doesn't deserve the name.

The Sony shop in Polo park just got in a new shipment of fones, some K550, K790 & the 1st five or something W610's, still in the box on the counter. Well, the 1st black 610 was sold instantly, they had higher prices in their system than on the sony style website, but matched the online prices, 349.99 + tax.

If anybody's interested in that fone, give me a shout once Z750 is out

Unlocking seems to be a problem here, nobody has really caught on to the idea of "free" fonez, not even customers, they think the shops of network providers were fone shops, I'm still searching for some1 in 'peg to unlock my x-Fido Z520.
Maybe it will make sense to buy the SW & perform unlocks as a side job...

yes will work but if your in the sticks - country land - away from city - minimal coverage so you GET no signal you don't have the stronger 850mhz band. You're better off with P910i device.
