Isn't the upcoming XDAII PocketPC/Phone more of a contender for the P900?

Been seriously considering a P900 instead of my P800 but just noticed the new XDA II coming out.

Any opinion positives/negatives of the XDA II vs P900.

Took the plunge & bought the XDA II (not enough difference with p900 compared to p800 for me).

Pick it up from my local O2 shop in next couple couple of hours. Have has a look this lunch at a demo model and it looks/feels great. Transflective Screen/128MB/SDIO/Bluetooth port looks like ideal PocketPC/Phone combi.

Initial impressions the thing oozes quality & looks great. Excellent belt clip case included. No regrets yet. Great to have a super bright/sharp 65k Transflective Screen again. The sound volume is very load (loader than P800!) and vibration is very strong.

Having previously owned pocket PC's (iPAQ 3870/3970) the 400MHz processor with Pocket PC 2003 mobile and 128MB RAM flies! Bluetooth appears to work great with no problems connecting to my P800.

Over the year of owning a P800 (after previously using iPAQ/T68 combination) I have realised I want more of a PDA/phone than a phone/PDA. This might just be ideal

Still to try out camera & see if my existing Pocket PC software works on it.

Initial thoughts are that this IS a serious contender with the P800/P900 (manual actually mentions P900 in establishing a Bluetooth connection ).

I'm of to play. Only time will tell if I will ditch the P800 in favour of the XDA2.

Got 14 days to see if I like it or I can always take it back to the shop

Camera better than P800. Shock when pressing camera button it started instantly showing me a full screen image through the camera in pretty much real time. Not done any video yet. All the software I have loaded works fine upto now. Cradle takes power from USB when connected to PC without need for using power supply. Already loaded Mobipocket onto it as all my ebooks are in mobi format (same as P800). Some built in profiles: Bluetooth,Silent,Normal,Loud,Meeting,Airplane,Custom.

Vibration alert for calls & PDA alarms & initial indication of battery life looks great at this stage (box says upto 15hrs PDA usage).

Weakness campared to P800 & iPAQ in sound department with headphones. Not enough Bass and no way to alter it (that I have found).
STOP PRESS
Just tried P800 earplugs in it and much more bass so looks like earplugs are poor quality (do have neat little answer/end call butons & volume control though). Will have to try a decent pair with a 3.5-2.5 adaptor - just wait until I get that 512MB SD card in it

Video recording at maximum of 320x240 is awesome in full screen & good quality. Even recorded clip while listening to a music track in the media player!!!!

The feel of it is pretty good compared to the P800 because while it is wider it is also much thinner & it is nice to have a bigger dispaly.

Off to bed now.

A chap at work has the XDA I - he finds the call quality is very poor as is the ability to hang-on to a signal. How does XDA II perfrom a phone?

I have just sold my P800 and I am now ready to buy
a) P900
or
b) XDA 2

How much was your XDA 2?

Question:
In light of the fact that you have a p800, in your opinion what do you think is the better buy? P900 or XDA 2,
I realize you might have not got your hands on a P900 yet.

Thanks for your time.

Paid £349.99 on £16/month contract with O2.

The crunch decision (assuming P900 is very similar to P800).

As a phone the P800/P900 is much better than the phone side of the XDA2 & other than basic making a call & receiving a call, using the XDA is a two hand affair. Many more phone type features in P800/P900 than XDA.

As a Pocket PC/PDA it is excellent.

The Video, multimedia, picture, game performance of the XDA makes the ones for the P800 laughable.

Unless you need a Pocket PC with built in WiFi or expansion potential of the iPAQ high end series I would highly recommend the XDA2 based on initial use. All my old iPAQ3970 software is working great on it.

The P800/P900 is still the better device for phone use. If I was a heavy user of voice calls, MMS, text etc. I would stick with a P800/P900 as it is much more usable for those functions.

Still to decide if I will take it back & get the P900.

Thanks very much...

I will have a look at one tomorrow.

I like the idea of the more powerful processor and the fact that the SD cards go upto 512Mb is a great reason to buy it....
