SonyEricsson or Nokia ??? |

Nokia also invented picture messaging, and was the first to use predictive text input(T9). Nokia was also the first to take use of Symbian OS in mobile phones, not counting the R380 since that one used a very early and simplyfied version of Symbian, nothing like the Symbian we know to day. Lets give some credit where credit is due ppl, there is a reason why Nokia is the world market leader.

then again, theres a huge percentage (on this forum as well) that just like to go for the underdog (SE, Apple)) no matter what.
Why do people deliberately hate the biggest and best companies (nokia & MS) just because they are bigger?

Thankyou for your comments, i`m sure everyone here respects your comprehensive experience with Apple computers & Sonyericsson phones, i see from other posts that you use a Nk 6510. if only SE made a phone that pushed the boundries of technology as far as that ! |

And the first to use exchangable covers, front and back, I think. I'm not sure, but I think Nokia was among the first to use IR too(6110?). And the first to use games in mobile phones as well.

@raven: so why is the R380 not the first to use a Symbian but a Nokia? Is there a minimum version requirement to count as an innovation? I would think the R380 was way even ahead of the 1st Nokia communicator, counting the size vs package factor. And after all, Nokia did start out very well about a decade ago (up to the 8210, I would say, after which they began churning out clones in different colours). And most of these you listed are early innovations during that era. Nowadays? Anyone?

Nowadays? Well, I would say that 7650 are both pretty innovative products. 7650 pretty much made Symbian OS what it is to day(popular to developers and other manufacturers). And also the integrated cam aspect. 3650 with its circular keypad and cam-recorder. And rumours say that their new communicator will be a \"P800 KILLER\". Time will tell... I doubt it'll be released within this year though.

Recently: (let's not take Japanese phones into account here) 1st MP3 phone: Siemens SL45. 1st removable storage: SL45. 1st colour screen: T68. 1st MMS phone: T68(?). 1st bluetooth phone: T39(?). 1st camera phone: T68i. I'm not 100% sure about all these. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Mm mm. No doubt Ericsson and SE have been innovative too. Even Motorola and Siemens. But just because Nokia have decided to(have the money to) release alot of similar phones(fashion phones) in different covers, doesn't mean they've stopped trying to be innovative. Remember that these \"fashion phones\" aren't aimed towards the high end users, but rather towards the youth(fashion minded) market segment.

You call exchangeable covers and circular keypads innovations. Perhaps we come from different povs. But where technology is concerned, I've clearly made my point.

@brick, I thougt we were having a nice discussion here..? I don't see you making any point at all... Nobody denies SE being innovative. My point is simply that it is inaccurate to say that Nokia haven't/is/will be innovate just because they decide(have the money) to release alot of fashion phones.

Whoa, wait a minute here. I wasn't being unnice was I? I was just saying there was something wrong in using cosmetic 'innovation' as a yardstick in this discussion, and I believe I objectively supported my arguments with statistics. Don' t take it personal here.

Siemens had a "kind of" colour screen out years ago, but it was crap. Most of the innovations are happening BECAUSE of the healthy competition so we the consumers are always the winners.
I`m happy with that ! |

You pointed out those two cosmetic innovations I mentioned as the foundation of my argument, when I in fact also mentioned tech related issues like IR, integrated cam and camcorder, Symbian OS, picture messaging etc.. Not to mention WAP(7110) as the person above mentioned.
