From where I stand Google looks like it is capable of taking Apple on and I believe it will around mid next year. For now Android is still not mature enough but definitely making huge strides, better than any OS currently.

The Iphone still has the most beautiful and excellent UI in the business and it will be interesting to see the next Iphone which I suspect will be a rather huge departure from the current minimalist upgrade to the phone.

+1

How anyone can claim that a glorified app launcher that consists of page after page of squares is a "beautiful and excellent UI" is beyond me.

Even the most avid Apple fanboys can surely see that the UI is extremely outdated and has been surpassed by a number of other alternatives.

I have no argument against the success and appeal of the iPhone but some people mistake this for technical superiority.

You're talking about one small aspect of the UI, possibly because it's the only part you're familiar with. In reality the UI on any phone comprises a great deal more than that, and it's the overall user experience on the iPhone that's many leagues greater than the nearest competition, simple app launcher or not.

Simpler, yes. Greater, no.

I'm not 5 years old, I can work my way around a phone without needing it spelled out to me to the nth degree.

@Grousey

Have you ever used or are you using the Iphone? Yes, it is the most beautiful user experience and yes it is technically superior to any other out there. I'm yet to come across anything that matches that experience.

Exactly which altenatives have surpassed the EXCELLENT user experience of the Iphone?

I have plenty of experience using an iPhone 3G and I own a OS 3.0 iPod touch (best MP3 player there is)

I recently changed from an HTC Hero to a Nexus One and can promise you that no iPhone is technically superior to the Nexus One. It's even open to debate on the Hero to be completely honest.

Until I try the Nexus One I will reserve my judgement but on everything else I do rate the Iphone superior, the Hero included.

You're entitled to your opinion, but it's not an experience I recognise, having used an iPhone for over a year (and many less succesful smartphones before that). I don't know what you're referring to when you talk of having things "spelled out" to you by the interface - the iPhone's one of the few phones I've used in recent years that doesn't do that, or indeed offer any explicit help to the user whatsoever, simply because it's not needed. That's the genius of the design and the reason why you won't find a single help file or tooltip in the OS.

You're clearly blinkered by your love for the iPhone, it's well documented that the iPhone "holds your hand" in terms of functionality and usability.

Why so defensive anyway? I was only pointing out that in some respects, the iPhone is fairly basic for a smartphone.

Too bad HTC couldn't add Sense onto there. It would be epic.

Very nice dock but you cant connect it to your computer.

Warning! The dock power port does
not transmit data. Use only the
supplied charger. Never connect the
dock to a computer.

I think many people buy it and get dissapointed when it doesent transfer data.

I was going to buy the NexusOne this afternoon but on last minute I decided to wait for the HTC Desire which is better:
-Way louder volume for ringtones
-Sense UI
-Hardware buttons instead of faulty touches of the N1
