One thing that I will say about the Nokia is that the d-pad on the qwerty is a good choice. Xperia lacks this so you have to touch the screen and fumble around with the qwerty out which is inconvenient. However, the N97 space bar is too far on the right and is small which is plain stupid.
The Nokia widget thing is a bit lame, X panels are more useful and look better. The unfinished Nokia is cool but the Xperia looks and feels so good in the hand while the Nokia is a bit of a toy in the hand. The sliding mechanism is nice and surprisingly solid. I'm disappointed that a lot of Nokias look too similar with their new design philosophy, for a high end device it should have a distinctive look. |

The X1 is superior on many other areas. First and foremost, the X1 is smaller and slightly lighter. The X1 is faster and has more RAM. X1 supports both 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2 Mbps HSUPA, whereas the N97 only does 3.6 Mbps HSDPA. Although the batteries are of the same capacity, the X1 does much better on both standby and talk time. I've had my X1 on standby for almost a month, while testing the C905.
I'm sure there are other points I haven't mentioned as well. Don't get me wrong though, I really do think this will be a powerful and feature rich phone, but I just happen to think the X1 is a tiny bit better when it comes to features.
Out of curiosity, I didn't quite get the part about the software you use that enable the features, etc. Would you mind explaining that?

Sorry but I have to disagree X1 is not big enough, I take it you are using paper spec's when you say the X1 is quicker? If that is the case this thing will be a total slug! I found the X1 to be unacceptable and if the X1 is the best SE can do nowadays I have bought my last device.
I think I will wait until a reputable tester has given it a thorough going over or been hands on myself before I make a decision.
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

How do you know the X1 is faster? Have you used a production unit of the N97? Just because it doesnt use a +500mhz CPU doesnt mean its slow, from what ive been told Symbian S60 doesnt require such high powered CPUs since its not as power hungry as WM, same goes for the battery, all this should only be confirmed once someone has actualy fully tested a production unit, thats just my opinion, maybe i am wrong.

Great points Mizzle.
Sorry for my late 2-wk reply.
What I was trying to say is Software is what enables the use or enjoyment of using hardware functions. Software gives us the features. For example, WLAN is a hardware feature. The system may allow us to surf the web using the WLAN radio, and the OS' built in kernel may add support for UPnP & VOIP. However, Software allows for things such as VPN over that WLAN connection, or better still the ability to use PBX VoIP support on top of an existing SIP VoIP support. BEST yet would be the ability for the phone to use the providers APN data connection - fully utilizing it - over the built in WLAN for wireless tethering - Software like Joiku SpotLight/Premium !
I hope this helps better explain how software enhances existing hardware for our uses.

Oops . . . Have I run into Mizz and his anti Nokia campaign? X1 has better specs then the n97? Hmmm . . . Sure, what als? X1 is a SE product? Some things never change, do they? Well, at least SE just managed to stay in front of Alcatel when it comes to quantity, I ain't so sure quality wise thou. Now back to the big boys world . . . Does anyone know the N97's release date ? My N95 8gig is ok but getting a bit old now. The other question is - will my heaps of software for the n95,work on the n97?

Does anyone know when Nokia plans on a releasing this phone in North America, or what the unlocked price will be? What about a carrier in the US? It would be nice if Tmob or AT&T picked this bad boy up... :/ |

I see it just got the Fcc approval. It can't take that long now. Is not for north america though. On the other hand you can import one after it becomes available in Europe. (that is - if you want one so badly)

Just seen a couple of nice features built in according to the preliminary manual.
Finally USB charging! & also timed profiles (similar to handy profiles though not as thorough i presume). |
