On some Nokia handsets and Samsung you can see a little difference in the sharpness and clarity but its minimal.

Have you seen the screen of X1? Better than most Nokia phones right? And guess how many colors are displayed there. Exactly. 65,536 colors. The number of colors does not reflect the quality of a display, there are a lot of other factors.

At the end of the day, we figured out that despite having the smallest display C905 offers the best saturated colors and contrast in the images. INNOV8 remained second no matter that it has the best display specification wise (16 million colors). The other Samsung fighter (Pixon) offers more warm colors, which turn the black into gray. The images made with Renoir are too blurry compared to the rest and the colors are somewhat unattractive.

Overall, we liked best the combination large screen – warm colors offered by Pixon. If only C905’s screen was larger...

I kinda agree that 16M is no biggie. I have N95 8 and I often amazed how poor the same photo looks on its screen compare to S500. Yet many people brush off S500 completely.

dont forget, that the n95 screen res is really crap, compared to other nokia devices

That is the whole point....Whether or not the n95's screen is "crap" compared to other Nokias, it still lists 16M colors on spec sheet. QUALITY OF THE DISPLAY MATTERS THE MOST.When cell phone screens reach sizes that I can actually notice a significant difference between 262k and 16m then I might care. Till then I'll take quality and battery life over false spec-sheet bragging rights.

Enough about the theory. Let's compare.

Both phones are rather new in term of release date so it's quite fair to compare both.

K770 (1.9", 256k color screen, TFT) Vs 6120 Classic (2", 16M color screen, TFT) - all set to maximum brightness.

K770 is always on the LEFT side

All the colors (black, white, red, green, blue) are obviously better in K770. K770 wins easily in term of brightness as well.

But interesting fact is K770's is not even the best display from SE yet. S500 is better.

S500 (similar to W580) - K770

In case you think my review is biased, I'm not the only one who reviewed this kind of thing.

W580 - U600 (both are TFT 256k colors)

see W580 Vs U600, then see this:
U600 - N95 (TFT 256k Vs TFT 16M)

W580 - W910 (both are TFT 256k colors)

N95 - N95 8GB

and don't ever conclude anything if you compare those 16M screens with K800. coz K800 display is WAY behind newest SE:

S500 - M600 - K800

viewing angle??
don't worry.. latest SE phones do the best:

Open your eyes please.. It's obvious that SE latest displays are superb in term of brightness, saturation, contrast, viewing angle, direct sunlight view.

Now tell me what is so special about those 16M color screens?
You don't have to envy those Nokias' 16M color screens. Really.

As for me, I'd rather have a 256k color screen SE phone than a 16M color screen Nokia phone.

In my opinion, there is not huge different between 256k and 16M colors display... 256k colours it's enought for human eye.
