How good is the n95-8gb (black) video capture quality?

I am looking to get either the nokia n95-8gb or the sony ericsson w960 but the major factors influencing my decision are the video taking quality and wifi capabilities.

It says that the N95-8gb takes dvd like video's at 30 fps but the w960 also has this same 30 fps specification but does not take 'dvd-like' videos as advertised like nokia.. does anyone have either of these phones to give me a comparison please?

Like when Nokida says 'dvd-like' video capture on the n95-8gb is it much better than the w960's video capture?

Also how is the wifi capabilities in both of these phones.. i get the impression the sony's wifi might be slightly better than the nokia's but has anyone compared either of these 2?

thanks.

N95 8GB's videos are much better, but this whole "DVD like"-thing is way overrated. N95 (8GB) records at a full resolution of VGA (640 x 480 pixels) at 30 frames per second in MPEG-4 format. W960 records at QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) at 15 frames per second in 3GP.

Based on WIFI performance, W960 has the best signal receiving strength. I've had both the N95 (same WLAN chip as in N95 8GB) and am currently owning a W960 and whereas the N95 hardly could connect to our WLAN network at home from my room, W960 shows a full signal strength.

It's probably worth pointing that the W960i is only Wifi-B however, whereas the N95 is B+G.

@pete101

Sorry but even the biggest die hard SE fan wouldn't try and claim the the W960 comes anywhere near close to the N95 mainly due to the Nexperia chip and only having the Power MBX lite version of the graphics chip. The N95 offers near DVD VGA quality @30fps the W960 just doesn't get even close to this I'm afraid.

As to WiFi well the Nokia offers support for both b &g standards and i have very rarely heard of anyone having connection problems on the other hand read the P1 WiFi post's and you will see many that do have and have had problems and the W960 uses all the same old hardware.

The only real deciding factor is if you have to have an SE or a Touchscreen or not otherwise the spec of the N95 8GB is the most modern and updated with both Demand Paging and now Flash Lite 3.0 support in the browser whilst unfortuantly the the W960 really is very little different from any other UIQ3 device the only difference from launch is an extra 64mb Ram and more shortcuts other wise it is very dated for a devcie that launched late 2007 and same would even say expensive for what it is.

@Mizzle

That has to be one of the funniest things i have ever heard the W960 having a more powerful and better WiFi chip than the N95 that really is funny coming from one of the most biased towards SE people on the whole planet. Some times what you say makes sense but other times your statements lack any sort of credibility at all go read all the problems people have with WiFi b from SE and then show me people that have problems with Nokia's implementation of WiFi. Maybe you are trying to get Fatreg's funniest member title not a bad start at all well you made me laugh.

ahh so we've established the 'dvd-like' video that the n95-8gb captures is over emphasised but comparatively to any other phone on the market it still produces the best video quality?

hmm i think that might have sealed it for me it seems both wifi and video capture are superior to the w960 so that makes my decision quite easy..

shame the new n95-8gn doesn't have a lens cover like the old one did.. with a 5 megapix lens you'd want something to protect it at the very least.

is the video capture on the n95-8gb better than the original n95 or the same?

Really? Well, then LISTEN UP, buddy - I ain't joking!

W960 has a much better signal reception than N95 does. There's absolutely nothing funny about that, as it's die hard facts that has nothing about the b/g standards support to do (by the way, all Nokia handsets with wlan perform like b-standard handsets in terms of speed, in case you didn't know).

hmm.. you have had both the old n95 and w960 but you found the wifi is better on the w960?

i heard the n95 supports wifi b and g formats but is that only on the new n95-8gb not the old one? that might explain the signal stength.

Yep, had the old N95 and now the W960. The old one supports both b and g.

okay i'm very confused now..

is the w960 wifi signal strength better than the n95-8gb one though?

i know the old n95 that you had, had lots of problems so i presume they must have made some sort of improvements to the wifi stuff in the n95-8gb. (i don't actually know what the full extent of the improvements were)

p.s. is it possible to put real player onto the w960? i know it's preloaded on the n95.

other posters with both of these phones please give your opinion it would really help.

thanks.

They haven't made any improvements on the WLAN side of things, so nothing is changed here.

Nope, there's no real player for W960, but there is a much better audio/video player called Core Player.

I really don't know who who think you are besides the No:1 SE fan boy and supporter of poor little SE and all there problems.

But in this world and of this Forum or any other Forum for that matter a little kid like you doesn't get to tell me anything and especially not

"Really? Well, then LISTEN UP, buddy - I ain't joking! "

There is no way your are my buddy or ever likely to be so as i am very fussy about who i call friends and you certainly don't fit the criteria to be one either.
Learn some manors if you wish to dispute my statements otherwise you are just not worth taking seriously and niether is what you post.

so does anyone else have a n95 or n95-8gb to give me a comparison about the wifi quality please?

i have one opinion so far saying that the n95 signal strength isn't great and another saying it is..

ideally i would like to have opnions from people who actually own these phones to give me a comparison please. thanks

Dogmann,

You know what, I would normally have replied to yet another of your off-topic replies, but today I have done something different.

@pete
Sorry for being off-topic.

Hi Pete

Take a look at this thread discussing the P1 Wifi abilities which can be found here

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=161998&start=15

It may give you a more balanced view of the WiFi abilities.

Marc
