You can mod menu in SE UI. But can you have icon packs in SE UI? ie. Can each theme have its own different icon pack?
Yes you can mod SE icons, but not as part of a theme, only as part of a file system menu mod. So you need to hack the phone with xs++ or far manager. Since these are "third party apps" I think it's still fair to include menu modding. It's also possible to setup a system whereby you can change menu's just by restarting the phone (as opposed to using a computer to hack into the handset everytime you want a new menu)
Here is my current menu, a 1x6 column with my own menu arrangement and icons. I've re-sorted everything into sub menus to leave my main menu uncluttered
However, it's still easier to change menu's/icons etc in s60 (same with WM). WM and s60 win on menu customising still. However in the non-smartphone class SE's native customisation and shortcut system is one of the most flexible I've seen for a non-smart os.

Going thru all these trouble just to get something that is basic functionality offered by S60.. . That's why SE should drop the A** platform and devote their time to create a new platform based on a full OS.
Even now, there are S60 phones which are cheaper than SE mid/high end phones. And we have ridiculous red-faced situation when a much cheaper S60 phone beats the SE flagship in UI and (software) capabilities.

I still prefer the SE UI, all I've changed is the menu arrangement, all the other SE UI features are intact. My K800 suits me perfectly for now. Once K850 firmware shapes up I'll migrate to K850. Java suits my application needs.
But for smartphones, you ought to know by now, I'm a TS user My current smartphone is a WM device. Neither SE nor Nokia smartphones suit my needs for an all in one device. Nokia has the UI I dislike and no touchscreen as yet. SE has no TS device with a 5MP camera so my next upgrade will be to K850 rather than a P1 or W960 (though both phones appeal to me). That leaves me still using my WM devices for smartphones needs.
Since I can leave my laptop at home now that I have the HP ipaq with wifi, I'm still better off than I was before so it's no great deal to carry both devices. Combining camera mp3 player and phone in one deivce is enough convergence for me for now.

I like the fact that on s60 you can totaly change the menu and move your apps to different Folders and add different folders in the Menu etc. . . Also the 6-Standy By shortcuts and that great MULTIMEDIA MENU button on N80 and other s60v3 os9 phones have, if i press it for a long time it activates Music Player and if i press it normaly i get a list of 4-Shortcuts GREAT AND i can change the two softkeys to whatever apps i want, all in all 13-shortcuts to my 13 fav apps lol! And another thing is the great 3D games you get for Symbian s60 which A200 cant even touch!

OSE(the OS on which SE base their OSs) supports VGA, yes......
For nearly two years now, actually - my 904SH(April '06) is that very OS/resolution......

They have Java OS running on PC's with higher resolution.

I believe that the HTC Mogul for Sprint=USA, Telus=Canada, have the best size for the Touchscreen - many times I almost caved in. They have the best camera of any HTC model (2MP+AutoFocus+LED Flash).I don't like touchscreens; just preference. Moto's Q9h has a great camera 30fps@QVGA Recording & playback = hate the size.
Right now I'm so confused at which smartphone I'll get. Top running goes to S60 - I love the UI but it has changed so much like their phones just as a fad. For the icons, arrangement and ability to personalize I think S60 is THE BEST smartphone on the market, bar non (for NON-Touchscreens). Windows Mobile offers lots of Media abilities but the UI - icons alone have NOT evolved since 2001 = very unprofessional.

@mib1800:
Saying that the crap Nokia UI is better than SE's UI is just ridiculous.
Oh, and does Nokia have flash themes? I don't think so! |

my E65 has alot of bugs actually had to get a exchange handset off Vodafone cos it was really annoying me, even still the replacement phone has the same firmware as the old one, it cannot be updated over at Nokia cos theres no updates for it.
what ive done is contact Nokia which they responded very quickley by telling me to take it into my nearest Service centre,
after a search my nearest one is "Intercity Communications Birmingham",
so emailed them to see whether they update it for me there and then fingers crossed as ive not even used the phone yet nor removed the protective sticky things I don't want it being sent off to Vodafone for weeks lol
btw doing this wont fudge up my warranty will it with Vodafone? anyone know?
Not sure what version you are on but I just upgraded my just bought (today) E65. I downloaded the upgrade via the NSU. My phone is unbranded though.

@NightBlade
No more crazy than you constantly saying how bad the Nokia UI is as if the SE one is just so much better why do more people use the Nokia UI than SE's?
You may not like it or S60 but many more people love and use them then use SE and that quite simply is a fact and they can't all be wrong.
If SE really were as great as you obviously believe they are surly we would all be using that by now wouldn't we.
So just what is your explanation as to why SE has just 10% or less Market share if it is just so brilliant then? why isn't at least 2nd or 3rd and growing at a fast rate then?
Marc
