Yup, I'm back. For real this time  Like a bad cold, you can't shake me 
After several months with a Nokia E50, I learned a bit of aggravation.
- S60 is a lot like Windows 3.1 from the early 1990s. This is not a good thing.
- S60 sucks at basic mobile telephony. Messaging was a sluggish pain. T9 was non-intuitive and handled non-alphanumeric characters poorly. I hated the single-list disorganized contacts; later
 phones, with their tabbed approach to contacts management, is wayyyy better. And voice dialing just never worked.
- If S60 is so great for its available applications, why is most of what I need available as J2ME? (Sometimes ONLY as J2ME!)
- And BTW, S60's J2ME performance sucks.
- There are worse joysticks than those made by . Believe it or not.
- When zapped by the AllSpark, Nokias turn evil
Overall, S60 made me realize that I really don't need a "smart" phone. Smart telephony sacrifices too much of basic telephony, which I need more than anything else. I can live without a full-blown calendar; WAP is all the on-the-go Internet access I need (and all that is practical on a phone); and the only apps I really use are Google Maps and MobiMate's WorldMate.
That leaves feature phones. I've sampled Nokia's S40 platform and disliked it. Motorola isn't even worth mentioning; - and now that they're abandoning the PC SyncML standard, they're even less desirable. Add in Mac OS X iSync compatibility - and is the clear choice. Especially now that they're offering more phones with the NA-needed 850 MHz band.
OTOH, my past W810i left a bad taste in my mouth regarding  models. For portable music, I'm sticking with the iPod, for reasons I've written numerous times in past threads. Let's leave it at that.
But the rest of the range has treated me well. I did have a bad experience with my S710a, but I'm apparently an isolated case. I've sourced another one NIB from eBay; let's see how that does. If nothing else, it'll be a nice piece of mobile phone history  So the plan is to stick with camera- and design-phones. I have my trusty T637 right now. The S710a is on the way. And I ordered a new & SIM-free K790a from Amazon.com for $295. It will serve me until the K850i drops in price and improves in reliability.
That's it - for life  However, my Nokia experience has also taught me a few areas where really needs to improve.
- reception (E50 was a bit more solid than any I've ever had)
- inbound call audio quality and volume (Nokia is considerably better in this regard)
- materials and build quality (the E50 was made of stainless steel, for Pete's sake!) *
- Mac software development - see here and here for examples
- N. America needs (3G) smartphones, too!
* I would have instead bought an S500i, if not for the ongoing keypad problem

The only things that bug me about S60 is the slow boot time, and the fact that decent apps cost money

There is two different users.. One like Fast good looking UI. Other one like want to install third part programs on phone.. called as smart phone..

i prefer the e series over the n series. i hadnt nay problems with the os, but i have to admit, my e50 joy got buggy after some weeks, but e60 joy is amizingly good, also n91.

Well if you don't need or want a smart phone fair enough get what ever suits best and i sincerely wish you the best of luck as i feel you may just need it.

I really fail to see how you can say S60 boots slow for a smart phone my current device of choice is just 22seconds and my previous S60's all around 35seconds max, just what smart phones boot faster than this then? SE's at a minute approx? WM6?.
Dumb phones may well do but i could never make do with WAP or just J2ME well not for my needs. I never used Wap when it launched or was the only option as IMO it's just rubbish.

I prefer the Nseries, my N80 is serving me well and i think Symbian S60 is great,it has great apps, and hehe you dont have to pay for apps if you know the right places to find them. ive got A LOT more Symbian apps than Java, ive only got two Java apps (MXit and Opera Mini-4). The boot up for my N80 is not that slow, my previous W800 and W900 were a little bit faster but then again after booting the SEs i still had to wait until the phone read the memory card whereas with my N80 when its booted i can immediatly go and listen to music or run a app.

Hm improvised i have seen the phones you have sold of late and a N73 is some what cheaper than some of them, but as always each user is entitled to choose what suits him best.
I for one have never claimed anything different i only support and correct wrong assumptions about devices i use always have and always will. But i have never told anyone that they have to buy one device over another and definitely not one manfactuer over another either despite what many would like to claim or believe.

Funny, voice dialing is 99.9% spot on for me on all occasions. But generally i agree with you, E50 is a terrible phone, but that doesnt mean all Nokias are terrible.

nokia has a far better and wider support when it comes to applications imo. u should maybe give a try for e51 then...
