However, noise (as in low light noise) isn't what i'm really concerned with. Instead what i'm seeing is some kind of digital compression done by the camera software in order to hide the noise. The way pixels from one part of the image "spill over" into adjacent parts is usually from poor camera software, not from a poor sensor. Or perhaps it is the sensor. Either way, the one on the T650i is much smaller, and yet still manages to do a much better job.
Probably not compression but noise reduction and maybe not enough sharpening. But reducing noise in a JPEG also has the effect of making it smaller after compression. With the average size of K850 photos being about 1 - 1.5 MB (correct me if this is wrong!) then this corresponds to about 15 percent compression when using the JPEG optimizer in PSP, and this level of compression usually leaves no visible artifacts.
All image sensors have a fuzzy filter to minimize moire and other pixelation effects in photos and require sharpening after acquiring the image from the sensor. On more expensive digicams that support the RAW image format you collect the image as-is, without sharpening and other processing applied.

So if the K850 software is compressing the images at the moment. Does this mean with better software we can expect clearer and sharper pictures in the future?? |

of course...its so with all digital cameras, cell phones, graphics card, etc... (everything who use a GPU)....
you more optimized software, you better result.....

why would you use spot metering there though? |

@LCARS-Expert.......never use "spot" enabled in landscape..
your pics is good, but if you want more colors-saturation, dont use spot, also use cloudy profile, and if its realy sunny use daylight + ISO.100.....some tips...
ps....only use spot if you have a realy white background on close distance, (macro, etc)

It gives better sharpness in such situations. I, myself prefer spot metering too. Normal metering sometimes gets "confused" if there is movement so it doesn't focus as it should.
Plankgatan, please read. Those aren't my pictures, these were taken by "croatia". He is an Esato user too but he can't upload pictures so I do it for him.

njjaa..you wrong there..i have tried both many times, (just to compare), and spot is NOT good when you shoot big, outdoor pictures....(just look at your pic, they are good but have not so much colors)
with cloudy or iso.100 + daylight you get this wonderfull colors, (depends how strong sunshine you have)
just a little tip
