Educate me: FastPort on side instead of bottom? |

Sorry if this is a repost - needless to say, searching the Easto forums for "fastport" provides way too many unrelated results
Why relocate the Fastport to the side of the phone? It might make the phone more pocketable when using an HPM-70/75/82/etc. But it makes lots of other accessories unusable. just came out with the MRC-60 remote control stand, and the CDS-65 improved desk stand is on its way. Are you supposed to put the phone in sideways? What about car holders? There will have to be new ones with the connector on the side...
More and more, methinks the W810 is a keeper and I'll have to skip the W610

At least they've not ditched FastPort altogether!

But as I pointed, there are 2 new desk accessories from - one very recently released, the other "coming soon." Maybe they'll change back to a bottom-mounted connector?

instead of moving fastport to the side in order to have a more pocketable phone with a handsfree plugged in,couldnt they just change the form of the handsfree???i mean the wire to come out vertically, just like the USB cable....this was always bothering me till weeks ago then i purchased a ds970...but still wondering why?

i've asked the same to myself. This could prevent many damage to the connector.

Well, imagine a video dock for your phone...
I guess it's for a different range of accessories, which explains why only some phones have it. Can't be sure though.

Only time will tell why the fastport was placed by the side. New accessories will be sold in order to use in horizontal way. Such as the one shaliron mentioned above.

I also don't understand, why they put it on the side, and I don't like it.

Seeming as most phones now are A2DP compatible, I don't think it matters that much where your headset goes as the manufacturers will start to include BT headphones in the box some time soon.

imo its crap to plug headset on the side, its far complicated to get it out your pocket and avoid not to unplug it accidently

agreed. its not sensible or particularly usable to have a headset socket on the side when using the phone in the pocket, but it was the way of the P800, P900 and P910 and is the way of a few other phones these days such as the N95

I'll be pleasured if release the hpm-70 connectors as the usb cable connectors. That's all se has to do and place the fastport at the bottom.
