2. Since last night i tried opening almost all applications to see the effect on the memory. So far i did not see the message about "low memory close some apps (something like that)". In fact it now automatically closed some of the running applications. I had around 10 to 15 applications (pre-installed ones) opened.

i also tried that. i entered almost all the phone menus has, to configure as i want and i didn't even noticed when it closed the other programs

i also like the status bar when powering up

Memory management seems to be smooth and unobtrusive for the user...

You dont realise its happened whereas before the screen would flicker or pause...

Worrying about how much RAM is available looks like it may be a thing of the past!

Running smoothly for 15 hours now... lets see what uptime we can get...

But isn't it annoying having to reopen all the programs you actually wanted to be running in the background while quickly switching to another one with the task manager??

I've never really understood in this day and age why we should even be concerned about such things. Surely memory is cheap enough that they could give us amounts available that windows mobile devices have had available for years

one other thing that bugs me about apps is the task manager
the recent task list is great but if I power off an on it doesn't make the app any less recent, but the task manager only remembers stuff since power on

how simple would it be to keep this list between startups!

I suppose they could argue that more memory = greater power consumption, but really - yes, it should have had significantly more memory to start with. The latest generation (M600/W950/P990) barely improve on the P910 for built in RAM, which considering the relative complexity of UIQ3 is really quite stupid. Even if they'd stuck with UIQ2, I'd have expected the P920 or whatever to have naturally doubled up on memory again, to 128mb or more.

It makes me wonder if they hit some kind of performance barrier in Symbian that prevented them going higher, for the time being at least.

Same as everyone else the update gets stuck on 51%, although have removed update service and installed it once again after restarting pc.
Also tried removing pc suite and installed it back.
Currently have tried 4 times and still at 51% no movement above this figure.
Will try later in the day, hope it finalizes the update

I just received an email with SE's response to my support call on this 51% problem

as far as they are concerned it all working fine

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.

With regards to your enquiry, we have tested the Sony Ericsson update service an can confirm that the service is working correctly.

Please note that the update service will take around 30mins to be completed as the update service needs to download the software directly from the main server and then download the software onto the handset. You must also have the following requirements on your PC,

# Windows 2000, Windows XP
# Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz
# 5 GB free hard drive space
# 512 MB RAM
# USB port
# Internet Explorer 4.0 Service pack 1, or later
# Adobe Flash Player installed
