Are Sandisk 2GB M2 cards as good as the Sony Branded one? |

You guys are misinformed.
Sony does NOT have and does not have the capability to make 2GB.
SanDisk builds their own Memory Stick products including M2 and does not buy Memory Stick from Sony.
SanDisk owns the 2GB M2 market and just announced the 4GB capacity point and will own that market as well.
The SanDisk product is as high or higher quality as the Sony product and is tested to meet the exact specification.

You should read carefully. Many people in this thread say that Sony may buy from Sandisk (NOT the other way around). So they agree with you.
And yes I don't think Sony has capability to make it own memory (in any capacity and in any format). I might be wrong on this but why create a product line if you can order from OEM and put your label on it cheaply?
I standardised my flash memory to Sandisk and Lexar. |

Yes i appreciate that sony and aren't the same, but it is sony ericsson not sandisk ericsson so you would think they would favour sony flash memory as oppose to sandisk unless of course sandisk make the memory stick for sony

Could it be a somewhat dishonest retailer that has replaced the Sony M2 with a Sandisk M2 in the phone, and then sold the Sony M2 separately, since they have a somewhat higher price than the Sandisk M2s? |

Nice theory, but definitely not the case with the W950i as the flash memory is embedded! and is definitely sandisk i've seen it

Trust me. The genuine SanDisk is the best choice. Just got one last week, of course, the original one with warranty from SanDisk Indonesia and it runs flawlessly on the phone. Beware of fake SanDisk and Sony M2. |

NOTE: Sony does not make a 2GB M2 - only SanDisk. A 2GB Sony M2 would be a fake.
The quality level of both Sony and SanDisk are very high and they meet the same standards. That said, you would probably buy a SanDisk, since they are more cost effective.
