Just found out about this thread and having my W850i next to me, I checked it out right away ...
unfortunately, the crack is there ... It's so small you can barely see the little bastard. As I'm a reseller and also SE service point, I will try and get some information regarding this problem. I wouldn't recommend you guys to already buy a new pad and change it, if you only have that tiny crack.
Hopefully I'll get some good news from SE ...

whats the point of getting it replaced ??? , it will only break again in a few months time , you may aswell wait another 3 months till it gets worse then buy a new 1 , it doesent affect how the d-pad is used to theirs no point , or in my case anyway , lol. |

the crack wont be spreading, i guess.
i have the crack for about almost 2 months. it wont expand to any direction unless goes down. (If u use it normally of course).
yes, u have my word.
There i have nothing to worried about. Just expected SE will be solve it soon as possible. SE must do something about this.

Haven't heard of the material on the W950's keypad cracking though. Maybe SE should've used a similar concept there.

Hi guys, it's been a long time since I've been here on this forum...
I'm a happy Sony Ericsson user, started with a T230, than a T630, and a K700. Most of the time I was satisfied with Sony Ericsson, and it has a nice features/price ratio. My K700 is getting a little old, so I'm looking for something new. Good camera phone (with QVGA screen), a good mp3 player phone, an internet device with a nice 3rd party expandability option (like the new Sony Ericsson phone's improved java, oh, and multitasking ). I was thinking about buying a Nokia 6233 that is cheaper, but has it's drawbacks too (64 mb included, no jack adapter, no camera flash, no BT remote control, Java limitations, and so on...), and eventually came to the conclusion that it's really worth buying a phone like the W850. I like it. But that D-Pad was fishy for me from the beggining (well, I don't have the phone, but tried it, and red a few opinions about it), and after seeking a nicely controlable phone after my weak joysticked K700, it has broken my heart It's a real pity, it's such a nice phone, and it's not that cheap either...
Anyone got an answer from Sony Ericsson about this problem? It's still not too late to offer a free replacement of the D-Pad with an improved one (a durable one, I like the W810 one, but I don't think it would match the W850's style). Everyone will be talking about the cracking W850 D-Pad, and that'll lower this excelent phone's reputation. We must do something about it I know it's not easy, but SE could prove it cares about it's costumers. So, if anyone has some progress with the emails inform us please... I was even thinking about starting a petition, but that would be a veryvery negative hit to SE.

does the crack on the d-pad only occur on the white ones? how about on the black variant? i am interested to buy this particular model and I am most inclined to buy the black variant. |

i am so disappointed, I was really decided on buying this particular model over my choices, which are k618i and k610i plus buying a spare fone for my other sim. It looks like I will have to settle on buying either the k618i or the k610i and maybe a J230 too. Does anyone know when will the W880i be launched? I have see some spy photos, they do not look as good as the k618i most especially the keypads, they are so tiny. Should you guys recommend the k618i and j230i as a couple? Thanks. |

I still consider buying a black W850 one. I saw one in a shop were people can try out phones, and it gets tried out every day, and used a LOT! It's a black one, and still no crack on it

It's a pity that this is happening on such a high end phone.
I have looked at the pictures on the first page and is the crack in between the play/pause button and the small round one underneath?
