Hi guys, im getting a k800i (currently have a k750i) next week, just wondering if its a worthy upgrade? also, the new memstick format, the m2. ive noticed the highest you can get is 1gb.

Is there a 2gb coming out? or a 4gb even?

well i heard that the m2 will be able to take up 32gig in the future. I think that makes sense as i dont see why SE would downgrade there memory sticks.

I think what they meant was that is the maximum size it'll ever get, should they even suceed at reaching that size in the first place

no sorry no idea. Guessing it would be around the price of the same sized memory stick pro duo, as the 1gb is similar to the price of 1gb pro duo...

2gb and 4gb M2 are not announced yet so don't expect to see them this year...

and yes, 32gb has always been the theoretical maximum for the PRO duo and the same now applies to M2 but based on history, I have no doubt Sony will bring out more formats which we'll have to buy and which always will come out at lower capacities making us wait even longer to reach that elusive maximum!

this is all very repetetive from previous M2 threads but since we're here now...

its only speculation that larger capacities will be announced later this yer as Sony have not said anything about that

for more reading here are the memory stick press releases and here is the press release for M2

useful memory stick sites are http://www.memorystick.com and http://www.memorystick.org and don't forget our Memory Stick FAQ

I think that they mean that the addressing space is up to 32 GB, but currently, the technology to produce the memory chip with commercial quality is 1GB. The development is probably ongoing, and unless there appears an even smaller sized memory card in a few years, the possibility of a 32GB M2 card is there. The problem is that there may not be any devices left that use the M2 card by then...

As of now, you are stuck with a 1GB card till the end of the year (early next year I've been reading that the bigger sized cards will be out).

Its not a super big deal though. They are coming.

Well, they're not really "similar" in price as the cost of the Micro version currently is almost twice as much as the previous Duo version, as you can see here:

A 512Mb Micro costs 39 USD

And here, a 1GB Duo is also 39$ (Though in this case is a SanDisk, the sony is 48$ in the same internet store)
