OK well I have been using my TyTN for over a week now. Firstly the battery problems that seem to plague the Jasjar have not surfaced. Also I have had no problem locking on with a 3G signal. In fact I use T-Mobile and the speeds I get seem very good indeed.

I use my one mainly for email and web browsing and I have to say that its far better then the M600 was. I suspect that it will be the same case with the P990. Whilst out on Sat I was able to access my home web cam very easily and the picture quality even out in the sunlight was good.

For me that needs a PDA first and a phone second its the best option that works well with Exchange server.

it seems you and I have the same needs. Excellent pics thanks.

I have never been so undecided as I am about these twom having used the k-jam for a year and the M600 for a month or so...

I feel I will probably end up with the TyTN but will probably also get the P990 and make a comparison much as I did when I got the k-jam and JasJar and used them both before deciding

Trouble is, there is a 3rd part to this for me. The M600 size vs functionality is making me not want to give up the M600 either!

I'm not bothered about the camera, I do miss wifi but I'm not sure its worth carrying a larger device for

@cam1701

the TyTn looks very small and compact.

How long on a typical day are you locked to a 3G signal? With my m600 I am locked onto one 85% of the time and 100% when I am at home. My battery usage can vary - at the end of the day I can 70% left or 25% left depending on what 've done but I never need to re-charge mid-day. My typical usage:

- BT 12 hrs
- BT music streaming (HBH-DS970) between 1 and 3 hrs
- web for about 30 minutes
- calls, about 30 mins
- PIM etc 20 mins

How much life do you get from your TyTN?

How does wifi wen browsig compare to 3G?

Do you have a 3G Vodafine SIM? If so could you see if you can get HSDPA (T-mobile will start in September I think)

@Jah

I have had the unit about a week and so far battery life has been very good. I have not had time to do any specific tests but my aim is to try later this week with wifi, bluetooth and 3g battery life. Yesterday the TyTN went all day and to this morning on standby and power used was 10% on the meter which seems pretty good when compared to the Jasjar.

As for 3G signal its been equal to my K800 or Jasjar for holding signal. I do not have any link to a speed test for 3G. Now I have been told that T-Mobile went live with HSPDA at the begining of Aug and certainly the TyTN is faster then my Jasjar is on web pages. Its actually similar speed to wifi on some pages.

@masseur

I did like the M600 and the size but I use the push mail with exchange and I find the TyTN far more slick. Also for me I really need wifi becuase it means at home I can use it instead of using up my 2gig per month on my mobile account. If the M600 had wifi and a better interface with Exchange it would be more attractive to me. It was a close call between the P990 and the TyTN but the HSPDA won it for the TyTN.

couple of Q's please (I'm also with vodafone)

what plan are you on for 2gb data/month? they emailed me their latest data plans on Friday and 1gb was the max offered

have you done anything specifically with HSDPA and actually seen a performance improvement doing that compared with non HSDPA UMTS and/or wifi?

thanks!

@Masseur

Sorry I am not with Vodafone but T-Mobile. I use two phones one for voice (K800i) and the other for data (TyTN). I added T-Mobile Web & Walk Professional in Mid July which costs me £7.50 per month plus vat. For that I get 2gb of data per month and HSPDA when available. I was told that for Manchester where I am that should be August.

Since I can not find a speed test site for 3G all I can go on is comparison with Jasjar. Test site I use is CNN becuase its a big site. The difference between wifi and 3g now seems almost undectable. As for on the Jasjar you could see a difference in that 3g took a few seconds longer to load. If you know a 3g speed test site I will happily give it a try.

@cam1701

Been reading up on the TyTN and a post on this forum showed up a staggering 1.2(?) megabit connection on a t-mobile phone in Newcastle, is that mad or what!?

i think the speedtest the guy used was http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest might be worth a shot?!?

@masseur

When mine arrives i shall be doing some side by side photos of my P900 and the TyTN would that be usefull for the people in the p990i topic!??!

OK I have just ran three tests. First was my Jasjar which clocked in at around 300 kbps. Then I ran 2 tests with the TyTN first I got 526 kbps then the next one came up with 900 kbps. Not sure if the test web page is any good but still shows that the TyTN is much faster then the Jasjar or the P990 when it gets launched. WIll try and post some pictures of the test page tomorrow.

That would be great if you could. I am one of the few still deciding between a P990i and the TyTn and with the P900 being pretty much the same size as the P990i it would be very useful to see both together as a comparison.

Like many I am still very divided. I think both phones have failings and USP's so weighing up is what is needed. Personally I think the P990i looks better but on hearing the TyTn is not plagued with the slow down that the K-Jam suffers from I think it might be the winner. I will probably change my mind tomorrow!!!

For UK buyers TyTN look like good value at Clove Tech for UKP458

This promotional code NWS0801A will give you an additional 5% discount to the already low price of the TyTN at the www.clove.co.uk web site (we actually it will give you 5% discount on all purchases).

I've read afew comments in this thread regarding MP3 playback in both these devices, and while the SE may have better software out of the box to play MP3 audio files, the windows device has some excellent third party apps like TCPMP which plays DIVX video files and just about any other file you can throw at it.

Also GSPLAYER to name but afew, both of which are free downloadsand work great on WM5 devices. I dont remember them being available for symbian devices unless i am mistaken.

Really sorry about the quality of this pic but my K800 is at home along with my Sony T9. Took picture with web camera hence poor image. But it shows that this morning in Manchester I got a connection speed of 1360 Kbps. This for me was the primary reason for going for the TyTN over the P990.
