SE didn't help 1st time, waiting for the 2nd reply.

@ Mayk_Bam: Your solution has nothing to do with AAC+ or HE_AAC I'm afraid, so it's useless.

Regular .aac files play fine

Can't find a reference to HE-AAC on this document: Music and video on Sony Ericsson Phones although it does say that the w810 should play aac+ files (not eAAC+ though). Here is another discussion that mentioned AAC+ and encoding but in reference to the K800, might be of some help:

K800i does _not_ play eaac+/he-aacv2/aac+v2 at all as promised by SE.

Ok , i converted a mp3 song in 2 aac ones :

One with AAC+ - 192 Kbit/s

And another AAC - 192 Kbit/s

I then tested in fone , result => Works perfect!

maryus: what did you use to encode your files to aac+? and what parameters did you use? (sampling/kbps/etc/etc)? what did you use to play the aac+ file with? is it a w810?

@axilom

I used - Easy CD-DA Extractor - , parameters 192 kbits/s ,44100 Hz,Stereo. Both for AAC and AAC+ .

I remind you that AAC+ is much better on low bitrates.

Yes i use a w810 , cause that's what whe're talking about

Edited : With extension m4a, i forgot to say .

maryus: i got confused because you had a different avatar

interesting.. anyone's tried encoding at 48kbps aac+? how does it stack up against regular aac when you encode them in the same bitrate? i'm not all too familiar with aac+, but does anyone know if there are any benefits (compression vs quality) between aac and aac+? i did a bit of searching and so far, all ive found is that aac+ is the specialised variant of aac, optimised for streaming radio.

a side note: i encode my audio files in 128kbps aac/m4a (itunes). i'm a bit of an audiophile, and i anything below 128kbps aac just doesnt sound right to me. on my 5.1 setup at home, at least. and i'm too lazy to re-encode from CD to another bitrate

Well yeah my avatar ... it's not mine LOL . Well , I just told you : the aacPlus is better at 48 Kbs than aac at same bitrate. I will test one aacPlus low bitrate like 48 kbs is good, but tomorrow , so i will tell you the quality ( i have some pretentions on sound too , i'm using Audigy 2 Zs with Logitech Z-2300 speakers , both with THX certification ) .

Btw , i just wonder when i'll see a fone with EAX , yeah i know keep dreaming

Maryus, can you please try encoding an AAC+ at a LOW bitrate and comparing quality on PC to that on phone, eg at 64kbps?

The "+" in AAC+ refers to a complex addition to the original AAC file which increases the perceived quality of the audio, you can especially tell this by listening to the higher frequencies.

Also, if you play the file in some progs on the PC and suddenly skip through it, it sometimes takes a sec for the complex element to kick in, so the sound is "muffled", with artefacts for abut half a second. On the w810i, the file sounds like that all the time.

Ok, i've done the test, Result : Acceptable.

Well , i've converted a high quality mp3 to a 64 Kbs AAC+ , 44100 Khz , Stereo , then listened in both computer and phone using SAME earpeakers , not HPM-70 for first ; in the computer the quality was over the phone prety much with that earspeakers , but when i used HPM-70 it was better for w810 (still not over computers sound card ; wich is Creative Audigy 2 ZS ) . Aniways i recommend using regular mp3's, aac's , from 128 kbs to 192 kbs if you want good quality .

Btw, no artefacts in music .

Personally i just hope that SE will put a final firmware update that will fix almost all .

Till then , enjoy

Thanks for doing that MaryUS, so you say the quality on w810i was the same as that on the PC, even the higher end frequencies?

If so, could you tell me which program you used and any other important parameters and I'll investigate further.

Very helpful, thanks!

No problem mate , yes it was like in pc with defaults (treble and bass), and if you're tuning the equalizer mannualy it's much better . Personnaly i was satisfied (and i didn't tuned treble , it was on default , middle ) But for better sound quality i recommend an aac+ from 92 kbs to 128 .
And it was purely , with no artefcats in sound , just try the progam.

I used Easy CD-DA Extractor v 9.1.1 (Build 3) < it looks a great program for encoding / converting.

Again no problem , i hope you'll enjoy aac+ from now on.
