K800i does _not_ play eaac+/he-aacv2/aac+v2 at all as promised by SE. |

In the following document, Music and video in Sony Ericsson phones, it states clearly that K800i should support EAAC(+)/HE-AACv2/AAC+v2 (which is all the exact same and will from now on in this post be mentioned as EAAC+). This is also confirmed in the manual and various other places.
Sadly, this is far from the truth. Having only 1GB of memory I wanted to fit as much music as possible on my phone and still have normal music quality. To do this EAAC+ is the way to go, my personal opinion is that a 50kbps EAAC+ music file provides better quality than a 128kbps MP3 music file encoded with LAME (to be perfectly honest, I cant even hear a difference between 50kbps EAAC+ and 160kbps MP3).
I've tried EAAC+ in few containers (.mp4, m4a, .3gp, .aac) and the music file do work on the computer. THe phone however does not recognize these files as music files (for the exception of .m4a which is recognized but not playable, I have a swedish menu but basically it says: "Not possible to play the sound")
I've tried encoding the files in bitrates between 16kbps and 50kbps, 44100Hz, mono and stereo, but the problem still exists.
I also called the SE-callcenter and they said it SHOULD work but they haven't tried it themselves so now I'm hoping that maybe some of you have any ideas.
Sad story.

Try limit the sampling frequency to 32000 kHz. I am listening to a AAC file right now. Coded with 48 kbps, Stereo, 32,000kHz saved as a .3GP file

laffen: AAC+, EAAC+ or regular AAC? Regular AAC is no problem, works as a charm, AAC+ I don't know and EAAC+ does not work.
Edit: After much testing I have come to the following conclusion:
The files marked with "_ERROR" do now work on the K800i even tho they should, the rest do.

So what exactly is your conclusion? That EAAC+ do NOT work on the k800? What's the quality comparison b/n aac and eaac+? |

Tervel: My conclusion is that the K800i only supports EAAC+ files encoded with some encoders and some settings, I would recommend everyone to use the Nero encoder as it works fully with the K800i, provides high quality output and is very versatile.
There is an tremendous quality difference in EAAC+ and AAC, earlier today I had my dad blindtested on a VBR (avg. 244kbps) MP3 encoded with LAME vs. a 18kbps EAAC+ encoded with Nero. Yes, he did notice a difference but it took some time before he was sure. You try to play any MP3 under 64kbps and it kills your ears. AAC(Nero) at 64kbps is not quite as good as 128kbps MP3(LAME), but it's not far away either.

for maximizing the memory capacity of my K750 I've been converting my mp3's (192kbps) to AAC at 96kbps and overall I'd say the quality is close and satisfactory considering I'm listening on not so good headphones when using the phone. What quality do you think would be comprable to 192kbps mp3 (non vbr) when encoding in EAAC+ and what is the size advantage when doing EAAC+ vs the above mentioned mp3? |
