Earnings Preview: Sony Ericsson 2Q Pretax Pft Seen +83% |

The main reason for Moto loosing it's market share from 40% to 13% in the 90's was the poor batteries. Now the SE phones K800 and K610 have 3 times better batteries than Nokia N80 or N91 and still quite heavy bricks. I think a Nokia N80 or N91 buyer is almost a lunatic one, so much better are the SE models K800 and K610.

Sony Ericsson CEO: 25% Of 2Q Phones Sold Walkman Branded
STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Around 25% of the 15.7 million phones Sony Ericsson sold in the second quarter were Walkman branded, said Chief Executive Miles Flint on a conference call with media and analysts Thursday.
"In total we have now sold 10 million Walkman branded phones since launch," Flint said.
Walkman is a brand used by parent company Sony Corp. (SNE) for portable music devices and Sony Erisson uses the brand for its music profiled phones.

......and more to come by the looks of it. It has done well with the music phones and if it can repeat the formula with Cyber-shot then it will do well.

The spend a lot on R&D which is probably why they have the best UI. |

But you can see why SE is currently flooding the market with phones by looking at the popularity of them.
And can anyone guess what Motorola spends most of its money on?
A) R&D Department B) Design Department

Yeah, but might it be a case of 'case of too much of a good thing can be a bad thing?'
The most innovative things they have done recently are, imo the phone-to-blog (K800i) and W950i. (flash mem). Lets have some more, wow factor. |

@c96sthl:
Well, right now the score is
Sony Ericsson: 10 million (since Q3 2005)
Apple: 50 million (since 2001)
So SE have a bit left to go, but they've got a good pace

Well it seems the and cybershot are good moves but, according to analysts, they still need to increase their line up.
Also, where is the MobileTV handsets? I think that should be the next big thing.

Tv and handycam phones are Nokia's domain ;-) Also don't read to much into the figures. Look at the cell market growth overall before you tab on each other shoulders. Actualy se has lost almost 0.2% market share. Not much will one say till realises Se does not have that many to begin with - not to mention to whom have they lost it. Greetings from Helsinki. Mario ;-)

I might have known you'd appear
According to the data I have seen, shipments have soared and has increased its market share yet again.
BenQ is laying off staff and Samsung is about to post its lowest profits to date.

Samsung just got their Q2 result out
shipment up YoY but only like 7% but Qto Q it went down 9% to 26.3million
same time...profit down, revenue down...ASP went down
so far BenqSiemens and Samsung performance is not giving positive indication to overall market even SE claim the market is still growing
let see how....coz when everyone have their quarter report out...then we finally know whether in Q2...it is only SE who is performing way better than anyone or is it Samsung is struggling. |

Should Samsung 'drop away' only Motorola will be left to face Nokia in their quest for total market domination. Huh, history repeating itself ? ? ? Who remember the early '80 ? (some of you might not have been around by then) God save us from Nokia's stupidity and lack of competition. I still remember when SE was started quite a few hopped Nokia will be challenged as the top dog. 5 years down the line and Nokia managed to keep SE on the 'endangered species' list. With Samsung heading south and the others staying put Nokia is remindes me more and more of MS back then. Greetings from South Africa. Mario :-)

@Mario
has captured market share at the expense of others. Size isn't everything Mario, you of all people should know about that!
Regardless of these tawdry discussions about who's bigger than who, the industry still looks to as a market leader, and at the moment is pumping out great figures.
Can't you at least say that it is doing well at the moment? Is that too much to ask? |
