Ive had no sort of usb transfer bugs what so ever, neither on my K750 or any other usb devices.

sounds to me like a writecaching problem on some installations, and phones being removed to quickly before the writing has properly ended.

Could be because of a poor usb driver, but I dont think so, since the driver is microsoft certified, and it doesnt happen for everyone (me for instance). Could be some conflict with certain chipsets, this is not uncommon.

Try to doublecheck if writecaching is turned off on the removable device (also called optimised for safety), restart computer and check again, and make sure when you transfer larger files or amount of files to wait long enough for the writing to have properly finished. Before removing the phone from the computer check that the last file is actually written to the memstick by playing the file from the memstick on the computer.

Restarting the PC, waiting a few minutes after the transfer is done before disconnecting, reflashing, and so on do not work for many people including myself who got this bug not in this version, but in newer R1NA005. This just means they didn't fix it and it exisit in the new firmware.

Personally, I tired everything posted here and other places on the Internet to overcome this problem and only using a card reader works.

I suggest people with this bug to get one too. Who knows how long it will take SE to address this issue.

not saying its not a firmware issue, but logically if it were simply a firmwarebug, it should happen to everyone having the same firmware, and it doesnt. There has to be more to it.

Many things has been discussed and mentioned in this ongoing debate about corrupted files, but Im used to errorsolving withing computers and I keep having this feeling that some common factor is being overlooked. It could be a specific type of memorystick, a specific type of firmwarecustomisation, a specific type of chipset in the computers of those that experience the bug, it could be many things.

Since I havent been able to duplicate the bug in my setup, I also havent been able to do any errorseeking, therefore everything I say here are just gueswork, and shouldent be read as me saying other opinions are wrong in any way, just want to clear that up

Ok,so maybe you can help us sort this out..
1)what firmware version are you using?
2)how do you transfer files from PC to phone?
3)have you tried transferring like 100Mb of mp3's in single transfer?

1. using latest R1N035 Europe4 for K750, using a FAT formatted green Sandisk gaming 512 DUO PRO stick
2. allways transfer using simple copy/paste through the supplied usb cable.
3. yes several times, Im trying again as I write this just as a test, copy/pasting 110mb mp3's (one folder containing 17 files) to the mp3 folder on the phone memorystick over the supplied usb cable. Its done now, took maybe 5 minuttes. All files play fine on the computer when played directly from the memorystick with the phone still connected. Now removing the phone and checking they still exist. Yes, They still exist and play on the phone.

:-/

Now copying them back to the computer, again using simple copy/paste of the folder. Also took about 5 minuttes. Removing the phone, files still available and playable both on phone and computer.

Well, I tried once more to transfer a bunch of MP3's. Sure enough, it failed. But I discovered something interesting:

How you disconnect, eject or whatever doesnt matter!

I found the following log entry in the system event log:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 51
Date: 24.10.2005
Time: 01:29:16
User: N/A
Computer: *****
Description:
An error was detected on device DeviceHarddisk2D during a paging operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
(snipped)

There were 2 additional event 51's later, but it is the first that messes up the transfer.

All files copied before the event shows up fine in the phone, but the file being copied at the time of the event is gone, just the filename shows up in the phone. When trying to play this file, the next file(s) transfered after this file is played instead for the same duration as the vanished file would have played.

The rest of the files are unaccessible, but I'm sure they're there since parts of hidden files were played.

These id-51 events began to show up right after I upgraded to R1N035.

Do those with problems by any chance run VIA chipsets/usb controllers ? Or are anyone with problems running Intel Chipsets ?

There are known problems between XP SP2 usb drivers and VIA chipsets/usb controllers, which could lead to event ID 51's, and possible transferproblems.

just formatted by memory stick. is it normal to only have 467mb out of 512mb of available memory after formatting? that sounds like an awful lot of system files. Mine is SanDisk. a check on the memory stick properties says it has 490mb capacity, with 467 available memory. i loaded 233mb of songs, and 234 still available.

numb is correct - VIA's implementation of USB has always given me problems. I'm now using nVidia's nForce 4 chipset and it's 100% fine. I'm still on R1L, and staying thay way until a better firmware is released!

Running updated intel 925X chipset drivers here and still have problems. I will try to use my other PC which currently has no SE software later.

Update my anti-spyware, anti-virus and WinXP every month or so. Firmware on most of my PC hardware are current as well along with their drivers. Don't really check these often.

I don't see how these affect a firmware update on a handphone. I say this because I updated to R1N035 without a hitch. Updated to R1NA005 and I was smacked with the corruption bug. Ouch.

Like everyone else here, I will like to know the real cause of this.

This is certainly one of the strangest most irregular bugs we've seen so far.

Some dont have it at all, others were hit with it on R1N035, and burn-x didnt get it untill R1NA005

And still we havent been able to find a commom denominator.

With that kind of irregularity, its no wonder that S//E technicians have not been able to post a fix yet.
