@Guy H - no, they absolutely should not, I agree - all I'm saying is it's not unheard of for this to happen, and it's not insurmountable either. A couple of software updates down the line and we'll wondering what the fuss was all about..

On spot...i donīt think only nokia can improve its previous buggy devices to stable ones via firmware...both n80 and n93 had the same issues than UIQ 3 devices before becoming stable...in fact, this is All About Symbian wrote about n93 some time ago

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
more a Dark Lord of the Sith in the Empire way.
By day you shine, gleaming metallic black,
performing miracles, never looking back.
With VGA vids and TV out, you dazzle all,
that twisting screen and zoom control.
All media submits before your accelerator chip,
while all eyes are on you, there's nary a blip.
Music, movies, photos too,
all in your stride, a Colossus it's true.
But...
By night the gremlins who rule your soul,
come out to play and take control.
A different story then, as orphan processes and rogue memory leaks,
cause frozen screens and reset freaks.
No power by morning is not uncommon,
it seems deep down that things are wrong.
Bring on the updates I hear myself scream,
fine tuning the Force 'til you rule supreme.
Until that day though, your black and fearsome might
remains a powerful but subversively unstable sight.

Orphan processes??? Rogue memory leaks??? Frozen screens??? No power by morning?? Where did i see this before???

IMHO its pure bs considering some devices based on Symbian 9.1 and with roughly the same amount of RAM can be improved by software optimizacion and others donīt

Also, i imagine that if the n93 was from SE, it would have been beaten to death untill the stable firmware came out...well, maybe the n93 was too, but i donīt folow nokia forums

I called SE call center and explained that I am having problems that applications crashes. The guy did not want to admit that they are having problems with the FW. How poor not to admit and blaim on the user.

You didn't destroy it IMO. I had something similar with P910. It's about software. Somehow update didn't succeed. Try again.

SE would never accept that they have a problem, if they do they would be accepting Liability

SE are aware of the problems with the phone, but the fixes are not going to come over night

Yes the P990 is the fastest phone tht SE have had returns on, however the N80 from Nokia is the same.

Tel me about it.....

My son is on his 4th N80 in 5 months...

(admittedly, the last exchange was because he dropped it, and it stopped working)

Hi ares,

Strange you all of all people should come on a thread and talk about the wonderful job Nokia have done with their firmware updates and use such an out date review.

As you appear to be a fan of Steve LItchfield maybe you should go and read his amended review of the N93 after the first firmware update available via the Nokia Software Updater and what was fixed.
To see what is being fixed in the next update due anytime now you don't need to leave this forum just go to the Other manufacturers and then the Nokia N series thread page 32 and see what is going to be fixed soon.

I have never claimed that the N93 was perfect it but at least Nokia have the decency to admit there are problems and tell you what is being fixed IMO good PR. Seeing as IMO the N93 is already quicker than UIQ3 it makes for an interesting read. If you wish to continue to comment on the N series and S60 3rd Edition may i respectfully request you do it in the correct thread this thread is meant to be about the P990. Also perhaps you would be kind enough to tell of your experience with S60 3rd Edition if in fact you have any.

Yes you are completely right lets wait and see what SE achieve but with this promised fix all update the N93 spent less time in development shipped with 2 firmwares and has only had one update and with a 2nd on the way. How many firmwares has the P990 shipped with and had and how many updates now via SEUS. But as they say only time well tell interesting times ahead indeed.

@Dogmann

Why did you put such a large comment and what did you want to say with it God only knows. IMO it`s just a clever way to bite hard and make a person feels miserable as much as it is possible. Don`t think there is need for that. You accept things too much personaly and yet all the time proclaim freedom of personal opinion.

Sorry for the cross posting but it's best to continue the discusion in here.

This is in relation to this picture posted by akdemiru

akdemiru has asked me to post this.

"This FW not available yet on SEUS, I got this on a Service Center. It still crashes often. Especially Bluetooth is not stable. It is somewhat faster than before. But I have the feeling that R7 was better.

BR

Ugur"

If this is the case then I feel people will lose faith with the P990i more so than now..... at least we had hope!

ADD

I asked if he could report any improvements/changes etc. This was a PM. I'm sure he (I'm presuming it's a he ) wont mind me posting this.

"will do tomorrow. I had the phone for a while but was not using it, only started to use it 2 weeks ago and last week got it updated from R4 to R9.

so I'm not fully aware of all the issues but will read the forum and check my FW release if any changes or updates happend. "

This happens to many(?) ppl and is not limited to the P990, other phones are going dead after an update also. Try the recovery option. It it is not broken don't fix it.

how can he have the feeling R7 was better if he'd never used it.
