Cookie oddities

When i log in to esato forums on my mobile I stay logged in from page to page - I was even able to edit my profile - until i try to post a reply at which point it logs me out.

This raises the question: Does esato forum use any means of authentication other than cookies? I tried turning cookies off in my browser but am then unable to stay logged in. If the answer is 'no' then this indicates that at least *some* cookies are getting through.

I made a quick script that spits out all the request headers sent to it and tries to set a session cookie called 'testcookie' with the value 'ok'. If the cookie works then the second time (and subsequent times) that the page is viewed you should see something like Cookie: testcookie=ok towards the end of the headers. When I view the page on my S700i I get no cookie info at all meaning either the proxy has stripped it out or the browser hasn't stored it. Cookies are turned on in the browser preferences so it must be the proxy.

Note: I have also posted a version of this question in the Esato forum forum.

Also note: Y! Mail works fine without cookies as it propagates the session id in the url. It's also pretty easy to navigate and lets you check external pop3 mail. And no I don't work for Yahoo

Cool! Thanks, thats been quite enlightening... Is there any way to build a "tunnel" through which cookies can be sent?

In theory yes but I think you need something at eash end to package up the data and send it though the tunnel. At the far end that could be something running on, say, my server but at the near end it would have to be a modified midlet which is why i asked about open source browsers/email clients.

I'm currently trying to get bluetooth DUN working so I can do some more tests.

free internet rocks! hope you can somehow work out the cookie issues - that would be great because i cant access my emails from home as i haven't got a landline! (cos i'm student scum!)

the transfer speeds i'm getting through my computer and my p900 are compairable to my old 56kb dialup - which is fantastic!

WooHoo1 Free Internet

Just found out about it lol

I have it working on my Ngage and works on all series 60 as even though you cannot change the port you can do this in Opera.

I would like to know if anyone has any way of making the cookies work, in particular on PC windows as im conecting thru GPRS -> Bluetooth DUN

I am having problems at the moment. the problem being that MSN Works fine after changing the proxy, Mozilla Firefox works after changing the proxy, and i have tried a lot but internet explorer doesnt work at all.

I go to connection settings and change the proxy to the same IP and set port to 8080. After applying the settings and restarting internet explorer the internet starts loading but it stays blank for a while and then recieving The Page Cannot be found.

I was wondering if this still works for anyone?

I've got a normal 02 pay & go retail sim on an O2 X3 and tried the settings but I always get "Error: Sever not responding 9" I've asked a friend also to try it on a D500 but he also gets the same thing.

Maybe O2 have fixed this so it no longer works ???

If anyone else has an O2 X3 and has tried this can input some info plz?

Ok well its me then, I've tried changing the settings back and forth and turning the phone on and off but still dont work. Same error message. Could it be my phone, O2 X3?

There is however no IP to change but I think that's the Gateway Address as it's the same as the settings appropriate there is DNS and APN however, which have been left untouched.

i got my o2 genie chip the other day,
i had free texts without topping up.

I then wondered if i could use the internet for free,

i went to the o2 menu and tapped get settings, they sent them, and it works all for free!.

I then followed the instructions on how to get mms working:

Text "PICON" to "21400" -- You will get a reply within 48 hours

Then follow the instructions on step 2

I dont know what is up with o2, im getting all these free texts and picture messages for free and im wondering why.

Stupidest company ive ever come across lol
