imgur adds even more jpeg compression to the images.. that 1020 shot would look better if you had the original jpeg.

You’re wrong about the colors fidelity, they’re dull with pinky red. Always. That’s the big problem of 808.
Err.. you can do whatever your heart desires with the 808.. even in terms of colors. If you want vivid/saturated colors just bump it up in the settings, its no big deal.
There are plenty of examples in the gallery here on Esato. |

Cu, the photos speak themselves, I’m not the only one that can see wrong colors with 808.
808 on the left - Rx100 on the right
Original photo
The wall is bluish, red is pinkish, and so on.
808 photo +40% saturation - Rx100
You can boost the saturation but you will not get the right colors, need something else.

Yes, in certain conditions it might be off... personally I've never had an issue with the color reproduction overall. Yes, it is indeed neutral/natural but I think that was their goal while Dinning was still on board.. that way they are easier to manipulate later.
Also, ever since the N8 the algorithm tends to be on the colder/blue side anyway..
In the above example, you could reduce BLUE and increase RED a bit and see if it gets any better.
No camera is perfect.. its just the way it is.

In fact no camera is perfect, but between the camera phones that most approaches perfection is present in Nokia 808 ! |

The information given in this video are wrong!
The correct power flash 1020 is 3 meters!
And the minimum focus range of 20 cm is 808!
This information can be properly documented in the white paper for both devices !
No more this video only shows how superior the 808 is compared to 1020 (mostly in daylight images) ! |

They made a mistake by releasing the 808 to the public... it set the bar so high that now everyone expects something even better..
It ain't gonna happen anytime soon

Richard Dorman's (@Sheridan01 on Twitter) Flickr with Lumia 1020 photos:

Some excellent pics there, especially, when considering, that he's been using it for less than a week.
Haven't uploaded any of the photos here, because compression on the forum doesn't make pictures look good, as we all know (and some prefer to forget), and I didn't want to do that to Richard's pics, knowing how much effort he's put in them and how succesful they are on Flickr (already 3 of them made it to Explore!).
So, when you're interested, have a look at them yourself and enjoy beautiful Finland!
edit: Fixed typo in Richards Twitter handle

That is true.
Considering Damian Dinning and other engineers left Nokia, I doubt there is going to be a cameraphone from Nokia that beats 808.
Nokia seems to be chasing the iPhone and Galaxy S in producing unrealistic, bad images, instead of setting trends like they did with 808. The thing is though, iPhone and Galaxy S are actually improving and moving in the opposite direction, towards better and more realistic images.

I'm not so sure it was a mistake, I don't look at it that way. Maybe it was Nokia's way of rewarding its true loyals with one last HOORA which they knew would take QUITE AWHILE to surpass knowing that it was the last symbian. .... one final "thank you" if you will for all of us that bought one.

There was somebody selling a brand new 808 in the local ads two weeks ago for a pretty decent price, I wish I had bought it. |
